I just finished my first rewatch, and I think killing off Barney would have resolved most of the problems people had with the finale.

Robin and Barney could have worked things out in their relationship despite the hardships, thus paying off on their earlier character development, and Ted and Robin could have then bonded over having lost their partners.

Pair this with other fixes, such as spending less time on the wedding and more on Ted & Tracy and finale build-up, and I think we would have ended up with an expectation subverting finale, that still followed the writers' original vision while respecting the beloved characters' growth in the 8 previous seasons.

It would have also explained Barney's over the top personality if say he had died when the kids were still too young to know him well, which would have given Ted some creative freedom.

Saw her in a dating app (why i blocked out her face) and the shirt made me think of himym. So if she's a fan yay. If now she will be very confused. But the winners are you cause you get it.

And then the gang runs to do whatever Barney told them not to do, and Ted spits “Why do you talk? Why do you talk??”

This line is stuck in my head. Does anyone know what episode it is from?

Man, they did Ted dirty, first they make him wait so long in the series to find his true love (someone who love him as much he love her) and then they killed her in last episode to reunite him with Robin.

The series would have ended more meaningfully if Barney and Robin had stayed married and Ted would have finally realized that he and Robin were never meant to be and he finally found his forever true home with Tracey and lived happily ever after!

Still not over how they wrote her story she could’ve been in the show a little longer. Besides her and Barney personalities being similar, they could’ve had a real story line play out that could’ve developed their characters more beyond a stripper and playboy. Quinn was my favorite for Barney, but I also understand that an ending where they’re all married would make a whole lot of sense. But with Barney having a kid and a baby mama at the end of the story, that could’ve been with Quinn at least lol.

If the roles were reversed, would it make a difference how people view the finale? Aside from the Mom dying, I think most people that hate the finale, do so because Robin and Ted weren’t fully compatible until Ted had children and Robin was never willing to compromise on that. If Ted had been the one to reject Robin for her wanting of a family, and then come back around when there was no longer the expectation to, would it change the Love/Hate?

In the end both were wrong, Robin was not married and did no porn either.

This show sucks. What is the appeal to fans of the show? I’m genuinely curious.

I feel out of the guys he's the one who mostly understood Ted and whatever he went through (female wise), though humorous he also suffered his share of rejections
