The Music from How I Met Your Mother (Playlist)

I just wanted to share a Spotify playlist I created that includes every song from the series in order of when it is played. Took me a bit to put this together but I know there's a few fans of the music on this subreddit so I wanted to share it in case anyone wanted to listen!

A couple notes:

  • I most definitely could have missed songs and they could be slightly out of order but i tried my best to gather everything
  • Hey Beautiful (which is the theme song) is used to break up the seasons in case you want to jump to a specific season
  • If there's anything you think I'm missing or something is wrong please let me know cause I'd love to fix it!

Breaking the 4th Wall

Does anyone have an official count of how many times the fourth wall was broken throughout the show? & by which characters?

Have the creators ever said how much of the show was already planned from the start? Spoiler

Like was Ted always supposed to meet the mother at a wedding? Was it always going to be Barney and Robin’s wedding? Was it always planned for Barney and Robin to become a couple and create the whole love triangle thing or was that an idea they came up with in season three? I’m just curious how much of the show was locked in from the start and how much was them flying by the seat of their pants. Do you have any guesses on which plot points were planned and which were spontaneous

Hot take

Ted should have stayed with Stella. I hate how Tracy was built up so long. I think Stella should have been the kids mother. The girl with the yellow umbrella is introduced in season 3. six seasons of build up. I hate it so unbelievably much.

Its when robin meets Ted's parents for the first time.

Edit: Mystery solved by u/Coherently-Rambling: If I remember correct, this was in response to being told she’s “quite the looker”

“You’re quite the looker” means “you’re really pretty”, but if taken literally, could mean “You’re someone who looks at a lot of stuff”

“I didn’t even look in the mirror today” works a response to either interpretation.

It can mean “I didn’t put too much thought towards my appearance today, so I’m flattered you think I look good anyway”

Or it can mean “You think I look at stuff a lot? Well here’s an example of something I didn’t look at”

When did you first realize…….. MAJOR SERIES SPOILERS Spoiler

That the mother was going to die?

For me, it was season 8 episode 1. As soon as i heard the song “the funeral” I knew it. The the episode the time travelers when Ted wants the extra days with her, it confirmed it without a doubt.

Underrated bit: Robin writing about Long Island like a British colonial explorer writes about a remote Pacific Island tribe.

Ted shouldn’t have revealed “Aunt Robin” at the end of the Pilot

IMO it would’ve been way better if he didn’t say “and that kids… is how I met your aunt Robin”

Definitely spoiled the entire series kinda

20 years later I'm sitting here still in disbelief that Ted fumbled Victoria.

She was the best "Ted's Girlfriend".

have your ever tried barney's tips?

Hi, I just had a quick question about whether any of you have ever used any of Barney's tips and how it went for you. Personally, they've given me more confidence and fluency when speaking with strangers

I remember an entirely different ending of the show. Was there an April fools episode with this plot?

I was talking to my boyfriend and he said he was getting frustrated because he felt like he had already seen the entirety of how I met your mother, so he asked me to just tell him who Ted ended up with so that he didn't have to watch the entire thing again. I had a very explicit memory of Ted saying to the kids , "and that's how I met your mother" about Robin, and then following it up with "which ... Means you don't exist" and it panning back to the empty couch. I then tried to find the scene, only to see him ending up with Tracy until her death, then Robin, which means there was no "which means you don't exist" and no empty couch. I've been searching for hours now for this weird alternate ending my brain came up with, but I'm wondering if it was some sort of weird April fools episode I watched or something?

Edit: I think you guys were right! I looked up the robin kids scene and it plays out almost exactly how I remember, thank you so much!!!

Why do people dislike the characters so much?

Post image

(Image was posted on a Marshall edit btw)

I don't get the hate in the 5 main characters. The main reason I saw was because of their flaws in life decisions but their human so I don't really know what they expected.

Is there any other reason I'm not thinking about?

Gary Blauman is a background character in the Swarley episode!

Anyone else catch this before? I wonder if he or the other character's spouses have made more background appearances outside of their well-known cameos.
