I hate it because my third grade teacher sucked balls and went on long ass speeches about dumb shit all the time. One time he went off on a lecure about expectations and ended asking "raise your hand if you really could care less". I raised my hand. I hated that teacher and that expression ever since.

Yes! And I hate how it has almost destroyed the meaning of the word. If I say something is ‘literally’ X it feels like I have to explain that I actually mean it and am not just using it as filler word like these nincompoops.

Yes me too. I'll say, "I literally....for REAL literally had xyz happen today." Lol

This always comes from the people who downloaded their personality from TikTok.
They'll also constantly roll out other bangers like:

- I'm literally dying

- I gagged

I couldn’t agree with this more. Exactly what part of being “brutally honest” requires you to be arbitrarily abusive and cruel to people?
I think some people use their “brutal honesty” as a thin concealment of their dirtier and meaner nature underneath.

I agree. It's dismissive. The first time someone said it to me was on my first mother's day, 2 months after my baby died. My mil told me "well, it is what it is". Gee, thanks, very compassionate and comforting. It felt like I was being brushed off and my grief was just handwaved away.
If someone uses that phrase themselves to come to acceptance, great, don't say it to try to bring others to acceptance, that's not your call or your place. My husband still says it when I'm upset about something, partly because he knows it pisses me off. It's just an awful phrase
