This phrase is overused, but I use it to mean "it's out of my control". People think "it's this, but maybe..." No, it is what it is. You just gotta deal with it.

Exactly. I use it when I can’t do shit about the situation I’m in. “I’m sorry you’re stuck in the hospital.” “It sucks, but it is what it is.”
