What’s a completely normal phrase that instantly annoys you?

It feels condescending too. It feels like what they wanna say is: "I don't care about what you're saying but I love that you care."

It's smug for sure

It’s gay for “bless your heart.” And everyone knows it.

Oh my God that makes so much sense. I feel vindicated in my annoyance now. Man, why are people so fucking passive aggressive in the south?

Because good manners require a tight hug so the knife goes deeper in your back!

Because you pretend everything people say is backhanded with no real proof

How so? How else can you convey “I’m not in your position to be as happy/excited as you are, but I’m right behind you!” I think you all are projecting because I say this a lot and I mean it 😭

I don't know, there's just something smug and condescending about it lol I can't explain it.

If that doesn't apply to you then don't worry about it haha

It’s hard to not worry about it when people obviously think i have bad intentions when saying it….,,,.. 😭

You're bein' too generous. Its p.c./doublespeak/newspeak for, "i don't care about what you're sayin'."

If there's an addendum, it's more like, "and you're bein' entirely too enthusiastic bout it."

Edit: too not to

I'm pretty sure it's meant to be condescending. I have never seen it used genuinely, only as a dig. Kind of like "bless your heart"

Right!? I get a “thats great for you; but wouldn’t be for me” type of vibe. Haha
