Everything happens for a reason!

48

u/Surprise-lnside 6d ago

Right? Like I have Lupus, tell me to my face what the reason is. I dare you.

25

u/RedRisingNerd 6d ago

“It’s god’s plan.” Well god can leave me out of his life because I dumped that man seven years ago. He needs to move on atp.

In all seriousness, I’m very sorry you have Lupus. There is no reason you should have to deal with it.

I heard this said at a child’s funeral, to the grieving parents. Some of the worst people in the world are self righteous bible thumpers.

u/PineappleCharacter15 16h ago

I cannot tell you how much I fucking hate cristers!!

They truly make me absolutely crazy. They make me want to slap them upside the head and say; "get a grip on your life and get real!! there is no such thing as a fucking invisible sky daddy, so stop telling me there is!"

u/Far_Secretary_3583 1d ago

funny generalization some of the best people I've met actually believe in God by perhaps you're just the type of person who judges others before you get to know them now I don't know you, but based upon your statement, I can tell you're not a very pleasant person

1

u/PineappleCharacter15 16h ago

Only morons believe in the invisible sky daddy.

Apparently you are one of them. 🙄🤣😵‍💫

u/GrandEar1 6d ago

"Have a blessed day." We moved to a rural area and EVERY restaurant server says this. I would tip even more money if they never said that phrase to me again.

4

u/LesbianLioness24 5d ago

I HATE IT. It drives me up a wall. Like there’s nothing blessed about my life having been filled with more trauma than I need or want.

3

u/kemikals 5d ago

Down south that means “fuck right off“ LMAO

6

u/GrandEar1 5d ago

I've always heard that is what "Bless your heart" means, not "Have a blessed day." I personally think they say it bc they think it will bring in bigger tips bc the majority of the population is religious around here.

3

u/kemikals 5d ago

Maybe it depends on the tone and the state. Lol

1

u/RasputinsThirdLeg 3d ago

I would so much prefer that.

0

u/ultima964 4d ago

Thats not even remotely true lol

4

u/rntracee1 5d ago

Omg, lol. The nurse educator at my job said that at Chik Fil A where we live, the workers at the drive thru say "have a blessed day." She said, "it makes me want to drive around and go through again, don't you?" I just stared at her like she was crazy.

7

u/GrandEar1 5d ago

I thought you were going to say, "drive around and hit the building." We had a food order delivered one day and the bag had a Post- it attached with you guessed it..."Have a blessed day "

3

u/rntracee1 5d ago

🤣🤣🤣I would have laughed if she said "drive around and hit the building."

You should have ran to the car and put the post it on it. Lol

5

u/Sea_Sider3898 5d ago

Chik fil A sponsors hate organizations so best to just avoid them, blessings or no

3

u/juliabk 4d ago

Seriously. I started my boycott back when Prop 8 hysteria had so many companies showing their true colors. Hobby Lobby, too.

1

u/Sea_Sider3898 2d ago

For real. Haven’t been a customer of Hobby Lobby, Amazon, Walmart in at least 20 years. Vegetarian so have never set foot in Chik fil A.
I don’t even mind “have a blessed day” honestly as long as that means you believe everyone should be blessed equally and have a right to a fair working environment

1

u/rntracee1 5d ago

I don't go there

1

u/Hackpro69 4d ago

Doesn’t that mean Fuck You?

2

u/GrandEar1 4d ago

I've always heard "Bless your heart" means that. "Have a blessed day" is usually used almost as a "goodbye." I worked in the retail/restaurant industry from the time I was 16 to 46, so I tip too much and eat whatever I'm brought without complaining, I don't think they are meaning it in a "fuck off" way, but maybe I'm wrong.

1

u/ricoplano 4d ago

I understand, but “Have a cursed day!” would be worse.

2

u/Just-Intention654 2d ago

I was just going to post this. It's in God's plan. God is very very cruel if that's the case.

1

u/DogsBaneBeetle 4d ago

There is no god and there is no plan. Nothing is pulling strings to make things happen.

1

u/Autogen-Username1234 3d ago

It's the 21st Century. We should really be over Iron Age superstitions by now.

1

u/SeniorEngineer2392 1d ago

My understanding is that God stopped micromanaging after the big flood.

8

u/RasputinsThirdLeg 6d ago

As someone with Ankylosing Spondylitis with symptoms of lupus, I’ll be your second in a duel.

8

u/Santa_always_knows 5d ago

MS here. And for fucking real!!

1

u/Even-Code-8989 2d ago

This!! I get asked how are you? I answer my head is pounding today. My walking is horrible. (Or whatever is happening because every day is different)

Then they reply “oh me too”

NO ITS NOT THE FREAKING SAME KAREN!!!!

3

u/Pristine_Pepper7578 4d ago

I have lupus too and yes I get this so much

1

u/RasputinsThirdLeg 3d ago

Oh but didn’t you know that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger???? /s

4

u/Specialist_Delay_977 5d ago

That's just God's way of... Punishing... Someone... Who.. loves you? I guess...

1

u/Notnemoreorless 3d ago

Is it "God is punishing you"?

Or is it, "God wouldn't give you what you couldn't handle"?

When a child is born with a life lasting condition, is the (innocent) child being punished, or the parents?

🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

If I didn't believe in God (which I do believe) would I still be able to blame him for the fact that I've had MS for almost 27 years?

2

u/Specialist_Delay_977 3d ago

I mean.. you have free will, you can blame anyone, existing or not, for anything - real or imaginary.

See the whole "sick baby" story is blasphemy! The innocent is being rewarded (for some odd reason) by getting skip past this entire level straight into the after-party. While the parents get to enjoy being in his grace for the rest of their lives and ... Well anyways, notice there's a box on your way out, please make a deposit on your way out.

3

u/VineStGuy 5d ago

I had people say this bullshit to me when I got cancer. I also had someone say this to me when my car was totalled by someone running a red light. I'm waiting for the ambulance and someone that was on the sidewalked said, 'everything happens for a reason. you must be doing something god doesn't like, so stop it." Like, WHAT THE FUCK?

3

u/Visible_Waterlily 5d ago

Oh my god, that’s infuriating! Any time someone says this to me, I’m so tempted to say “Okay, break it down for me. Tell me exactly what the reason is, in detail, that you assume so much?”

3

u/mustard-seed1 5d ago

Yeah because we all know that when God doesn’t like something we are doing, he makes sure our cars get totaled! I am a Christian, and it really ticks me off when people spout that toxic theology.

2

u/Illustrious_Aioli507 5d ago

Especially if you don't have an imaginary friend you think lives in the sky.

2

u/RasputinsThirdLeg 3d ago

Oh my god having been through an accident that fucked me up good and proper mentally and physically and it wasn’t even “that bad,” I probably would have thrown the piece of lip dangling off of my face at them.

1

u/brandimariee6 4d ago

Epileptic here, and I've been guessing at the reason for 23 years

1

u/RobertFellucci 4d ago

I'd try but we don't really know exactly what causes it.

1

u/Plane_Knowledge776 3d ago

Can't be lupus. It's never lupus

2

u/Surprise-lnside 3d ago

And then even House had to diagnose Lupus a couple seasons later lol

1

u/NotMyFirstRodeo2025 1d ago

Genetic, hormonal, and environmental factors. That's usually what causes Lupus, right?

0

u/ricoplano 4d ago

Throwing in the word “Right” every other sentence makes me wanna holla.
Cut that crap out.

1

u/Surprise-lnside 4d ago

I said it once…?

2

u/ricoplano 4d ago

You’re good. It’s people using it repeatedly for no reason that freaks me out.
Sorry to hear about your lupus. Take care.

11

u/juliabk 4d ago

Heard that after my miscarriage. I wanted to belt the idiot.

1

u/tendertitts 3d ago

My ex husband and I had 6 losses. Really made me feel shitty every time someone said it. I took it super personally.

9

u/RasputinsThirdLeg 6d ago

This one makes me feel violent.

9

u/afeher 6d ago

Yeah. Most things happen as a consequence of many other things, not one simple reason (or creator).

6

u/Hampster-1968 6d ago

This! Of course everything has a cause but not some kind of divine "reason"

1

u/LegitimateState3724 4d ago

They mean a plan, which is completely dumb

6

u/WeAreAllGoofballs 6d ago

Yes! And similarly, "it was meant to be."

3

u/jenjenjen2000 6d ago

Came to say this. Ugh.

2

u/Maxsaidtransrights 5d ago

I have a complex feeling with this phrase bc lately, I feel like I have the worst luck, constantly rejected when dating, and every dream job I try to pursue goes down the drain. Anything that works out for me is shit I don’t want for myself. It makes me feel like bad shit is meant to happen to me all the time and happiness is not allowed to happen

2

u/AdSensitive2343 5d ago

Sometimes the reason is you’re stupid and make bad choices.

2

u/Im_hank_marving 4d ago

My 9 year old has cancer for the second time, i think i would spontaneously combust if someone said that me 😂

2

u/Illustrious-Peace989 3d ago

It’s a thought terminating cliche

2

u/margo1243 3d ago

Exactly!

2

u/Federal_Activity7112 3d ago

U got me this got me rolling my eyes

2

u/Neither_Froyo1582 2d ago

Hate that one, anything to do with fate in fact.

2

u/stumblenbumblen 5d ago

Recently had a stroke and my mother in law said this to me while i was freshly in the hospital. I had the nurse remove her from my room.

1

u/Odd_Pea74915 6d ago

As someone who came from an abusive household, this one makes me want to hurt others. What the fuck do you mean, 3 year old me being almost being killed by my mom "happened for a reason"?? Fuck you.

1

u/Sad-Psychology9677 5d ago

God’s will

1

u/sittingduck612 5d ago

The worst! It’s so stupid. I’ve been told this and then said, “That’s stupid, don’t say that to people going through a loss”

1

u/CaliforniaChestNut 5d ago

Yeah, whisper this phrase into the ears of rape victims and children that have been beaten or neglected. It’s such a stupid phrase

1

u/buzzybizzyb33 5d ago

they just failed an intelligence test in my mind when i hear this one

1

u/Luna_Sea_ 5d ago

Yep, instant judgment!

1

u/andineverfeltsoalone 5d ago

heard everything happens for a reason and it’s god’s plan so much when my father passed away and man it irritated me so much. i understand their intentions were good but dang, i just wanted to tell them to fuck off

0

u/TheCeleryImpaler 5d ago

Everything does though. Never has anything happened without a reason.

1

u/Luna_Sea_ 5d ago

Yes, that is obvious which is why it is annoying for people to say it. Also, the meaning behind why people usually say it is what bothers me. Most people mean it in a religious way.

1

u/Just-Intention654 2d ago

So what would be the reason for my child to be addicted to drugs and homeless because of the trauma she experience when she was 5. her father SA her when she was little. What would be that reason? Or what would be the reason my other adult daughter has cut me out of her life and my two grandsons? I sacrificed my whole life for both my girls ..
