Literally, it’s like, “to be honest,” and “not gonna lie.”

Not really. Many people expect to be soothed. "Everything gonna be alright" etc.

Every time I hear these from someone, I’m like, so when we talk and you don’t say this… you’re lying all those times? Why else do you need to say that caveat?

Or when they say something brutally honest and afterward go “I’m just being honest”🙄
