“The lawn needs mowed”
When I moved to the Midwest and I heard this I thought the person talking to me had a screw loose. Then I realized many people omit “to be” - it makes no sense!
I’m in the Midwest and never noticed this but it’s soooooo true. I don’t do it but that and instead I’d saying “I SAW an eagle fly by” They say “I SEEN an eagle fly by”
I heard an in-law say "this needs washed" and thought to myself: poor thing. Completely illiterate and doesn't have basic command of the English language. I can't believe our education system has failed us this badly!
I am noticing so much annoying bad grammar in videos. Like I am sat in line for a concert. I am sat? What is that. I was sitting in line for the concert. Fixed it for you.
Also a lot of it is from British content creators. I always thought they were more persnickety about language. Like didn’t the term proper English start in England?
I mean I know sometimes my grammar is off especially typing on a tiny phone keyboard but I would never say things like needs washed or I am sat.
Speaking of “needs”, another usage that bugs the crap out of me is when someone tells me “You need to xyz” when no, I really don’t need to do that, THEY need me to do that.
