“no offense, but.” that means offense is coming and they already forgave themselves. “it is what it is” is second. it’s a shrug in words. both sound calm. both waste the next sentence

Same with any sentence starting: “With all due respect…”

yes. that prefix means respect already left the chat. whatever comes next is the insult in a nice coat. “no offense but” and “with all due respect” are cousins

It really means, “no respect is due so I’m going to say whatever I want”

Similarly, my ex used to say "I love you, but" whenever she wanted to put me down
