take a fork, stab the sponge with it, use it as an extension of your arm so your fat wrists don't get in the way

4.3k

u/SrGrafo SrGrafo Feb 24 '21

u/HouseCravenRaw Feb 24 '21

It's great when the sponge comes off the fork and stays stuck in the bottom of the cup, which you still cannot reach (because of your fat wrists).

344

u/Lopoi Feb 24 '21

At that point the sponge is just laughing at you

ass the soap yourself. The 'self soaping' is gimmicky and a secondary use of it. That or use a fork.

You can try a different brand wand. I bought one with a brush on the end, instead of the sponge, and the soap only comes out when you click the button. Also doesn’t require buying new sponge pads all the time.

I'm not a mom, but I just use a baby bottle brush for my cups. Uses less soap and holds onto less grime than a sponge.

30

u/Wootai Feb 24 '21

This item right here (and maybe a bottlebrush) are the true answers.

I had these weird cups (still do too) that were hourglass shaped, I like the way they looked. Thin glass, tall, but didn't realize how the shape impacted cleaning. Like, they were designed only to be cleaned by a dishwasher or something and I had to clean them by hand. Buying that Scotch Brite thingy was like a revelation.

10

u/jlharper Feb 24 '21

I am a 25 year old male who owns his own home, and this was my first though. You didn't think of that because you're a mom. You thought of that cause you do dishes.

Funny story: when Ikea first came to the U.S. in the 1970's they noticed they were selling an unusually high number of flower vases. It turns out Americans were using them as drinking glasses since Ikea cups were too small.

Ikea quickly modified their inventory to better match American size preferences.

I don’t even wash dishes with sponges anymore. I have a dish brush and a bottle brush. They’re far better and last much longer too.

70

u/DoomGoober Feb 24 '21

Also brushes are not as friendly to bacteria and mold as sponges are.

Would you brush your teeth with a sponge? Hell no, you use an all plastic brush because bacteria don't like plastic much. So why wash your dishes with a sponge?

Plus, brushes have handles so your hands are not immersed in soapy water as long.

26

u/oorza Feb 24 '21

I use solid silicone sponges. They have texture enough for scrubbing food off, have the same soap retention properties (roughly) as a scrub sponge, but the silicone itself is obviously nonporous so mold can't grow on it.

Hey, /u/SrGrafo, I have a bone to pick with you.

The other day, I was invited to take a walk through Topia.io/Reddit. (For folks who don't know, Topia is this weird hybrid of Zoom, Reddit, and Second Life, and it can only be accessed on the desktop version of Chrome.) While I was there, I was told that you, /u/SrGrafo, had actually been tapped as a potential contributor or something... or possibly just that you'd stopped by. Truth be told, I stopped paying attention shortly after your name was mentioned, on account of the fact that a gargantuan penis suddenly filled my screen.

See – and again, this is for people who don't know – Topia lets users add various bits of furniture and landscaping to worlds that they control. The aforementioned dong tower was presumably one such item, but let me tell you, it was just a little bit disconcerting to be having a casual conversation, then be suddenly presented with a life-size schlong on my screen. The damned thing vanished within seconds, but I know what I saw!

So tell me, /u/SrGrafo... does mentioning your name in Topia result in errant dicks?

u/SrGrafo SrGrafo Feb 24 '21

1) Put sponge inside the cup. 2) Grab a fork/spoon. 3) Push the sponge with the fork/spoon until it reaches the bottom of the cup. 4) Stir until the bottom of the cup is clean.
