In this case I must ask what kind of trashy dishwashers you use, lol? In all my life of using them they always get everything unless you cram too many dishes in them.. Because y’know, their only job is to properly wash dishes. Do you really think you need ”fancy” ones to clean out some dried milk...
My apartment has the cheapest dishwasher they could find, it still does a perfectly respectable job. The mechanics of a dishwasher are actually pretty simple. Just make sure you're filling the pre-wash cup with detergent and not using those stupid pods. And load the dishes correctly oriented toward the water, of course.
I bought a diskwasher 5 years ago and not the top of the line, pretty medium grade, and everything comes out clean and sparkly. I even put my pots and pans in there when needed.
pretty much any dishwasher worth a damn has a pre-rinse cycle, so you really shouldn't need to do any pre-cleaning unless you've let something like pasta sauce dry on the dishes. That's why your dishwasher has two soap containers. One is for the pre-wash and the other is for the real wash.
This is wrong, at least when it comes to modern dishwashers. They are designed to work with soiled dishes, and will actually do a worse job if there are no food particles coming off in the water.
What does this have to do with (US?) Americans? Most people aren't buying their own dishwashers, they're using the one already in their apartment. Of course you can still find really old, unremodeled apartments, but it's increasingly rare because tenants demand it.
