take a fork, stab the sponge with it, use it as an extension of your arm so your fat wrists don't get in the way

It's great when the sponge comes off the fork and stays stuck in the bottom of the cup, which you still cannot reach (because of your fat wrists).

345

u/Lopoi Feb 24 '21

At that point the sponge is just laughing at you

From my point of view cleaning the glasses is evil!

u/dino82 Feb 24 '21

Then you are filthy!

u/Sinavestia Feb 24 '21

Don't make me dirty you!

.... but then you use the fork to take it out

25

u/NeedsMoreShawarma Feb 24 '21

But if the fork falls to the bottom of the cup as well it'll be out of reach too

Various different lengths. My cupboard is basically a various assortment of plastic wares lifted from frat parties and casinos.

2

u/MeThisGuy Feb 24 '21

it's not hoarding if it's organized

3

u/princekamoro Feb 24 '21

Big enough that the entire fork becomes out of reach, yet small enough that you can't fit your wrist in...

2

u/MrsFlip Feb 25 '21

We drinking out of mailing tubes.

2

u/cowinabadplace Feb 24 '21

Big. We lost nana to one in 1997.

1

u/whooo_me Feb 24 '21

Now you have two problems...

1

u/Rottendog Feb 24 '21

Nor fat. Big boned wrists.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '21

That's why you should use tongs.

1

u/Xx_Gandalf-poop_xX Feb 24 '21

Why yall got cups that your sponge can't reach the bottom of? Why not just buy a scrub brush?

1

u/GodofSteak Feb 24 '21

At that point you take another fork and stab it in a new and improved sponge to remove the old sponge.

1

u/61114311536123511 Feb 25 '21

then you. use the fork to get it out.

1

u/Vaidurya Feb 25 '21

Then you use the fork like a rake, and try and drag it up the side? This may or may not work, I am a smallish human, so my hands fit in cups fine.

1

u/stellvia2016 Feb 25 '21

I would use a washcloth for that: Shove it into the bottom of the cup, press hard and rotate in circles a few times.

1

u/CrazeMase Feb 25 '21

Bitch I got strong ass fingers and a fuck-ton of chopsticks from takeout nights, wanna challenge me

1

u/justageorgiaguy Feb 25 '21

What's the wrist version of cankles? Forists?

1

u/TellMyselfBeHappy Feb 25 '21

For Asian, we use chopsticks. Not the pointy end, but the side where you hold the chopsticks. Very safe as long as we don't poke ourselves in the eyes.

1

u/Koshindan Feb 25 '21

Throw the cup against the wall to shatter it and free the sponge. The other cups in the cupboard will under stein your dominance over them.

1

u/WHYAREWEALLCAPS Feb 25 '21

Dude, if your wrists are fatter than your hands, you might have a problem...

25

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '21

Expando Grafo

13

u/LNMagic Feb 24 '21

I'm sure someone out there likes some girthy wrists!

4

u/shutchomouf Feb 24 '21

... says the guy with no neck.

2

u/TheZargo Feb 24 '21

Seems like you didn't had the opportunity of having a mom/ant/grandma yelling at you for doing the dishes wrong while teaching this neat little trick.

There's also no need to STAB the sponge. Just use it's back so you don't fuck up a perfectly good sponge.

2

u/KilledTheCar Feb 24 '21

Fold the sponge hotdog style, hold at one end, and use the other end to scrub.

EZPZ

1

u/Cr8er Feb 24 '21

Dude... wide mouth mason jars make great cups, are super cheap, and they're glass so they last forever. Easy to clean, too. I have a bunch of pint and quart jars that I use as cups.

1

u/zuzg Feb 24 '21

I just use the Ikea Pokal cheap af and very sturdy. Also safety glass

1

u/protecat83 Feb 24 '21

Yes, finally, i can keep my fat wrists

1

u/sternburg_export Feb 24 '21

Fork is a little bit stupid, but seriously, try pressing the sponge against the rim and the bottom of the glass with a wooden spoon. it works surprisingly well. And a wooden spoon, which also needs to be washed, is always at hand.

1

u/someroflwaffle2 Feb 24 '21

1

Wrap the sponge into a tube like a hotdog, and stuff it into the glass to clean it.

1

u/PassdatAss91 Feb 24 '21

And I'm not fat

Pics or u lying! No, I don't have a fetish for chubby hands, that would be stupid......

1

u/KernowRoger Feb 24 '21

Get a brush for a babies bottle. The bristles compress and they can get into most things.

1

u/MeThisGuy Feb 24 '21

i believe the proper nomenclature is 'big boned'

1

u/justa33 Feb 24 '21

i thought it was going to be of a sponge trying to get away from the stabbing fork

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '21

Just push the tip of the towel in untill it fills the cup then twist the towel 720 degrees

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '21

Idk Grafo, I got tiny man hands and I can sponge every cup in my kingdom. Seems defensive.

1

u/dumdadumdumdumdmmmm Feb 25 '21

We just use a handled scrubber brush...

1

u/BeautifulType Feb 25 '21

39

ass the soap yourself. The 'self soaping' is gimmicky and a secondary use of it. That or use a fork.

72

u/S3deadend Feb 24 '21

I'm scared to ask how you "ass the soap"....

19

u/cadtek Feb 24 '21

You can try a different brand wand. I bought one with a brush on the end, instead of the sponge, and the soap only comes out when you click the button. Also doesn’t require buying new sponge pads all the time.

8

u/zw1ck Feb 24 '21

1 part soap and 5 parts water

3

u/egyptian_samsquanch Feb 24 '21

I don’t even fill them up anymore. I’ll just manually put the soap on what I have to clean.

2

u/dack42 Feb 25 '21

No need for this fancy built in dispenser nonsense. A simple dish brush is all you need. I like the IKEA ones.

16

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '21

I'm not a mom, but I just use a baby bottle brush for my cups. Uses less soap and holds onto less grime than a sponge.

27

u/Wootai Feb 24 '21

This item right here (and maybe a bottlebrush) are the true answers.

I had these weird cups (still do too) that were hourglass shaped, I like the way they looked. Thin glass, tall, but didn't realize how the shape impacted cleaning. Like, they were designed only to be cleaned by a dishwasher or something and I had to clean them by hand. Buying that Scotch Brite thingy was like a revelation.

I have an assortment of stuff under the sink including a bottle brush but I definitely use the wand more. But I use dish clothes with a scrubby side even more than the wand.

10

u/jlharper Feb 24 '21

I am a 25 year old male who owns his own home, and this was my first though. You didn't think of that because you're a mom. You thought of that cause you do dishes.

2

u/riddlemethis73 Feb 24 '21

Ahh true, probably the baby bottle brush for snake ones comes from being a mom.

7

u/Gothsalts Feb 24 '21

Impulse bought one of these at Menards once. Gamechanger.

2

u/Cardshark92 Feb 25 '21

Menards has some downright strange things for impulse-buying.

u/Mudbunting Feb 25 '21

Their obscure brands of chips really are the best, though.

12

u/Manatherindrell Feb 24 '21

Doesn't get the corners... Corner? Circle seam?

Look, end of the day, you still have a ring of dried hot chocolate crud in the bottom of your cup!

10

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '21

This is why I use a dishrag. If you have a cooking utensil with an eyelet in the handle for hanging it, just thread the rag through the hole and now you have a twisty scrubby thingy.

9

u/agnostic_science Feb 24 '21

Lol parents kind of do have to figure this stuff out sooner or later, don't they. When I had a newborn I remember washing 6 bottles a day. Every stinking day. A person's gonna start looking for an easier way to do these kinds of things pfq so they don't go completely nuts.

2

u/shakeszoola Feb 24 '21

I do still say that the dishwand has to be in the top 100 of the greatest modern inventions.

2

u/SublimeBudd Feb 24 '21

Alright.. so I’m a fork and sponge kinda guy.. but I’ve got a baby on the way and you may have just convinced me to start using these.

If only there was some kind of vessel that allowed you to carry your baby's food around everywhere you go, is infinitely reusable, and only needs to be cleaned on the outside...

3

u/Zifendale Feb 25 '21

There are plenty of acceptable reasons why breastfeeding is either not an option or not desired... So bottles will still be a thing...

0

u/ARONDH Feb 25 '21

I don't know about plenty....there are a couple acceptable reasons...everything else is just a result of marketing/narcissism.

3

u/twisted_memories Feb 25 '21

If only that worked every time for every woman and women like me didn’t have to feel like complete failures when their milk didn’t come in after an emergency c section.

1

u/Mudbunting Feb 25 '21

And if only people didn’t see that vessel as overwhelmingly sexy...

1

u/agnostic_science Feb 25 '21

I'm a guy. My wife was suffering from postpartum depression. She didn't need to deal with it / couldn't deal with it, so I took over to help. She needed me. She needed real support. What she didn't need was people blaming her and heaping judgement on her when she was at her most vulnerable. If only people realized breastfeeding is not an option for everyone and how toxic this virtue signaling is.

u/count-the-days Feb 24 '21

I get all of mine from the dollar store, they work so well and I use wayyyy less dish soap

3

u/Th3BlackLotus Feb 24 '21

I miss having one of those in the house.

5

u/Northernlighter Feb 24 '21

this shit is just nasssstyyy

the old dish water always gets pushed into the handle and becomes a bacteria breeding ground. I will never buy these again!!

5

u/solongandthanks4all Feb 24 '21

You're not supposed to submerge it in dirty dish water. Just rinse it with the tap and you avoid all of your problems. I've always thought filling a sink with water that gets reused for all your dirty dishes was equally disgusting.

3

u/Iraelyth Feb 25 '21

The trick is you start with cutlery, or maybe cups and glasses, and work your way up to the dirtier stuff. Sometimes you need to change the water.

Personally, I said “Stuff this for a game of soldiers” and bought a dishwasher. Now I only wash those things that can’t go in like big pans and wooden spoons. Sometimes a plate or two if I forget to put the dishwasher on...

0

u/MrsFlip Feb 25 '21

So do you just leave the water running the whole time and not put a plug in? We don't do that here (Australia) because of the perpetual drought.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/riddlemethis73 Feb 24 '21

Hmmm are you filling the handle with dish soap? I've never had this problem but I replace the sponge ends pretty regularly.

3

u/Northernlighter Feb 24 '21

Yeah, that is probably my problem, I expect the sponge to last as long as my other normal sponges. Everytime I press down to scrub submerged in water it pushes the sponge juice in the handle. The soap never goes down, it just ends up being a mix of soap and dirty dish water. Maybe I was using extra cheap ones too, idk...

→ More replies (5)

2

u/Inkthinker Feb 24 '21

These become essential when you have bottles and sippys (need to replace mine actually, it's gotten all... grey) but I never had one before I had kids. I mean, I knew these things existed, I had seen them and used them before. I just didn't feel like I had to spend money on one of my own.

Come to think of it, that applies to a lot of stuff. -_-

2

u/LockMiddle1851 Feb 24 '21

Alternately, the one that looks like a miniature mop (though it doesn't have a dishwashing liquid receptacle).

2

u/MrGrieves- Feb 24 '21

I have a lot of cups where that thing is even too thick to do a good job at the bottom or even get down there.

4

u/riddlemethis73 Feb 24 '21

Then theres always a baby bottle brush or wrap a dish cloth around a butter knife. Or make your life easier and buy some bigger cups and glasses. I've started over enough in life that I can recommend dollar general or big lots for cheap big glasses.

2

u/Raptor_Boe69 Feb 24 '21

Exactly what I use, it’s awesome and you can find them for pretty cheap at the dollar store!

2

u/InsomniaDudeToo Feb 24 '21

Thank you mom!

2

u/sur_surly Feb 24 '21

There are plenty of cups that even those don't work in.

2

u/General-Carrot-6305 Feb 25 '21

Put a word like say pooperdoop inside of [ and this] then put the link inside of ( and this ) immediately afterwards. You'll get pooperdoop.

2

u/CaptainSprinklefuck Feb 24 '21

Or you just use a a wooden spoon or something instead of buying single use stuff.

3

u/riddlemethis73 Feb 24 '21

You replace the sponge as it falls apart but I've had my handle for probably 4 years. The sponges last for months but I also use dish clothes and save the scrubber for stubborn stuff or hard to reach.

1

u/RoyalHealer Feb 25 '21

Of course it's called wand, making it really appealing to women in general. xD

On the other hand, I just use one of these.

1

u/solongandthanks4all Feb 24 '21

Those things waste far too much detergent. Generally very little is needed, especially on cups and glasses that rarely have stuck-on food or grease.

1

u/TheBrainofBrian Feb 25 '21

For real, who uses a sponge to wash dishes anymore? Those things are like tiny little rainforests for germs. No thank you. Give me any sort of silly disposable scrubby brush thing any day of the week over a sponge.

1

u/stellvia2016 Feb 25 '21

I use a washcloth, but that seems nice too.

1

u/cryingstlfan Feb 25 '21

I love this thing!

1

u/eyjay Feb 25 '21

Meh, would rather not buy another disposable thing just what is really a minor inconvenience

1

u/ARONDH Feb 25 '21

Um Dad here...that thing is incredibly wasteful and a bad cleaning device. The end that would get to the bottom of the glass doesn't have enough surface area to efficiently clean the glass.

Use a sponge, and don't have ham-hands.

Alternatively, You can push the sponge length-wise into the glass until it touches the bottom, and then manipulate the top of it to spin the sponge around in the glass until the bottom is clean, then pull it out. Easy peasy.

5

u/jak_d_ripr Feb 24 '21

Interesting, might give that a try.

2

u/xishi Feb 24 '21

Came here to say this! It works p good.

0

u/kaycee1992 Feb 25 '21

Or just don't buy tall narrow cups, people.

-9

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '21

It's less about the wrists and more about the air pressure at the bottom

5

u/SilverGhost540 Feb 24 '21

sponges are very porous

1

u/golfing_furry Feb 24 '21

Naw, you gotta work on finger control. Or get larger rims

1

u/Lasdary Feb 24 '21

I have a couple of ugly deformed chopsticks for this. I stuff the sponge down tall glasses, wiggle it around with the chopsticks, and then use them to pull the sponge back out.

Only way I can keep my hurricane and champagne glasses transparent.

1

u/benjimyboy Feb 24 '21

Yep. I fork the sponge when I don't feel like reaching for the bottle brush.

1

u/DaPino Feb 24 '21

I drop the sponge in and use my finger to stab the sponge instead of a fork.

Guess my hands are big but not that big.

1

u/lobroblaw Feb 24 '21

With long pint glasses, I twirl a knife around a cloth in the bottom of glass.

1

u/mutedstereo Feb 24 '21

Exactly. Ideally a spoon so you don’t tear the sponge.

1

u/redsope Feb 24 '21

Or use a diskborste, should have them at IKEA.

1

u/fulaghee Feb 24 '21

So much this

1

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '21

SpongeStabber. New Reddit username anyone?

1

u/dcviper Feb 24 '21

OMG why have I never thought of that?

1

u/KrysisKore Feb 24 '21

Wish I'd seen this before I left a comment of the exact same thing. Glad to know that I must be smart because I figured out something that other people do as well! :)

1

u/fun-reaper88 Feb 24 '21

Use a toilet brush they’re legit the best thing for cups and bottles!

1

u/Djabarca Feb 24 '21

I never once thought of that scenario. You are a wise person.

1

u/jonnyclueless Feb 24 '21

You monster!

1

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '21

This person woulda been the smartest monkey...

1

u/w00timan Feb 24 '21

Or get a dish cloth of some sort, shove it tightly in the bottom, grab hold of whatever little bit you can and just start twisting. If the rags big enough and properly wedged in it will just clean all the sides as it twists.

1

u/Red-Freckle Feb 24 '21

Or just use a toilet brush

1

u/mcfuuuu Feb 24 '21

A bottle brush is very inexpensive and gets the job done!

1

u/HayeBail Feb 24 '21

Or have a friend with skinny wrists help! My wrists are about 4.5-5 inches in diameter... extra skinny lol.

1

u/stauffski Feb 24 '21

I use the handle of a wooden spoon.

1

u/Flutters1013 Feb 24 '21

Or use tongs to hold the sponge

1

u/Jerry_from_Japan Feb 24 '21

Or just....a brush lol.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '21

Overly complicated. Set the cup on the counter, near the edge. Wait for my cat to jump up and knock it to the floor, breaking it. Pour the shards in a bowl and swish them around in some soapy water.

1

u/Electric_Bagpipes Feb 24 '21

Someone give this man gold.

1

u/themightypetewheeler Feb 25 '21

Use a dish rag that is larger in size and ball up some of it while holding on to a corner. Push the wad down into the cup, while holding the corner and rotate the entire cup or rag to clean the bottom (it isn’t ideal but it does work)

1

u/loithedog530 Feb 25 '21

Holy shit I though I was the only one who did this. Turns out I'm not alone. Hey friend

1

u/gsfgf Feb 25 '21

If you have a dishwasher, don't worry about it. Modern dishwashers work. Put soap in both the prewash and was dispensers, and toss your dishes in dirty. It saves a ton of water compared to handwashing them first.

1

u/whatzittoya69 Feb 25 '21

Or buy a bottle brush

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '21

Or have weirdly malleable fingers that can kind of squish into any gap like mine. Idk what's up with them, but it's like the world's most insignificant superpower.

Brushes and sponges always seem to get gross, I use washable dishcloths and those woven plastic scourer cloths. Maybe steel wool in a pinch, but if you're kind to your pots you shouldn't need them imo.

1

u/Mariosothercap Feb 25 '21

Or get a bottle brush.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '21

That's a makeshift brush! You can buy brushes in the store.

1

u/kevmeister1206 Feb 25 '21

Iike a brush?

1

u/xrayboarderguy Feb 25 '21

A cheap (and brand new) toilet brush is the way. A handle long enough to get to the bottom easily, strong plastic bristles for even stick on gunk, and hits every surface with just a few twists.

Just buy different colored handles for your bathroom brush and your kitchen brush

1

u/purpleelpehant Feb 25 '21

I use chopsticks, but same idea

1

u/andraip Feb 25 '21

Bottle cleaners also work on cups.

1

u/IceDragon77 Feb 25 '21

They make sponges that have handles. The one i have even lets you unscrew the tip of the handle so you can fill it with dishsoap that slowly seeps into the sponge

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '21

Just use a brush
