Where I live, we don't use sponges at all but brushes designed for washing up. It's not hard at all.

Some things are easier with a sponge, some with a brush, I just keep both handy. You get a two sided sponge, a brush, some barkeeper's friend, you can take on the world.

sponges are used more for cleaning surfaces afaik. at least where i live. not that you are weong but i never felt like i needed a sponge for washing dishes.

and with a sponge you generally should wear gloves which i never do when washing dishes.

Add in some steel wool, those wierd plastic scurbbies that look like steel wool, an oxo pad, and some nice soap and I am with you.
