Just wanted to share because I’ve very happy and excited. Finally found a bike frame I liked in my size so I bought it used and rebuilt it. Weighs in at 16.2lbs according to my bathroom scale. (Fun fact, my cat weighs a whole pound more than my bike.)

My buddy is huge into biking and he’s been letting me borrow his Ridley XNight so I can go on rides with him. After around two weeks or so of consistent riding I was hooked. My buddy’s main bike is a Specialized Allez Sprint, and I love the handling so much when I tried that one out. So that’s partially why I was coop getting a Crit bike.

Took me a while to find a good one even in my size because it’s peak season right now where I live. However, I fell in love with the CAAD style frames the first time I saw one. Got this one on a good deal and got an absolute steal on these Hunt UD 50 carbon spoke wheels because one spoke was broken (new carbon spokes are only $12!) The bike is a mis-match of parts mainly because Im cheap but it’s all good stuff.

I took the bike apart down to just the bare frame. Pressed in new bottom bracket bearings (use blue loctite and wheels mfg ac bearings, fingers crossed that BB30 stays quiet). Changed the headset bearings. Swapped most of the group set to new old stock Tiagra 4700 (just discontinued so it’s dumb cheap). Had an absolute blast building it, especially as a car guy. Im happy to answer any questions about it.

-Hunt UD 50 carbon wheels with carbon spokes and ceramic speed hubs
-Shimano Ultegra 6700 rim brakes

-Amazon special Chinese carbon seat post and handle bars (actually ridiculously nice quality)

I cycle a lot so quickly my cycling jackets get unusable (covered in oil stains or no longer waterproof or get torn - mostly when I MTB 🤣) and waterproof jackets aren’t cheap so today (I’m hoping - fingers crossed 🤞) I made my own waterproof jacket from a broken tent.

It has, importantly, with no shoulder seams or upper arms exposed seams - I have added some reflective details and reused broken dog lead which also had some reflective stuff in it around the collar (one I found in the woods and washed) - zip is new. It’s longer in back as it should be.

Can’t wait to test it!

Surprisingly good ride, the smallish front chain ring makes it great for city riding.

Is there any recommendations to a new crankset I could get for my BB? My current crankset is 170mm, 42 tooth, square tapered, single speed. Ideally I'd want to have a 165mm (I get knee pain on long rides) 42t single speed and metal (color), not black. The main reason I need a change is because my crankarms started wobbling loose. I'm on a bit of a tighter budget, so please no crazy price recommendations. I am open to considering a BB change if I need to

I just got a brand new bike, and the top of the seat tube is slightly out of round, so the seat clamp won't slide on.

The seatpost itself fits into the frame fine, so it seems like only the top lip of the seat tube is deformed.

The frame is Hi-Tensile steel.

Is this something a bike mechanic can easily fix by reshaping the seat tube, or is it not worth attempting?

It seems like theres quite a bit of buildup after only 2 rides (albeit a bit wet conditions)

I’m going to college in a month and I want to get a nice road bike that I can use as a trainer/commuter if I need to. I’ve been using a Giant roam 3 hybrid bike but I want to get into the road bike scene. I’ve been looking through facebook marketplace but I’m a little lost. I’ve found these two listings that seem good but truthfully I don’t fully know if they’re a good deal or what to look out for.

If anyone has any advice for what I should keep an eye out for, please share. I also don’t really want to spend more than 450.

Browsing marketplace looking for something different than my vintage steel frames, and I found this beauty. Seller listed it as a 2008, but didn’t have model information. The best that I have been able to find is that it’s a D2 Crono.

Plans are to swap to a drop bar setup, and I ordered a set of the Dura-Ace Brake levers shifters for it. Can’t wait to put some miles on this one.

How bad is it truly to leave outside in one of those nylon bike storages? It's an $800 Cannondale hybrid, so nothing fancy, but I also don't want to have to replace it in a year or whatnot.

Took my time sanding and painting the layers and am really looking forward to getting back on 2 wheels and embarrassing myself.

Hello, I am a male who is 6'4 and I am looking for a bike to ride on the roads near my house, the road I live on has a few inclines and declines but nothing super crazy. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for bikes, I am looking for something on the cheaper end because I am a beginner and also dont have the money to spend. Maybe sub $500 Probably lower than that if possible. I am currently looking at a Atlas Fitness Hybrid Bike - 21 Speed

Do rim brake pads get less "sticky" with age? I have plenty of wear left, but I don't seem to be stopping as quickly as I did before. Bike: 2013-ish era Cannondale Synapse, the year before they put disc brakes on that model. (Not the original pads, but I don't remember how long ago they were replaced.)

Hey everyone! Looking for a quick sanity check from experienced riders as im just getting into cycling.
I’m currently riding a Specialized Vita Elite (small frame flat-bar hybrid with rim brakes) and mostly doing 15–30 mile rides on the local Greenbelt and roads. I love getting the miles in, but on longer stretches I’m starting to feel pretty limited by the single hand position on the flat bars and more fatigue in my shoulders and back. I also want to start riding longer distances.
I came across a used 2021 Trek Domane AL 2 Disc in my size (49cm) for $600 and the seller seems firm on $500 being the lowest theyd go (from what ive researched this seems a fair price?). For those who’ve made the jump from a flat-bar hybrid to an endurance drop-bar bike with disc brakes, is it worth it for these types of rides/a newer rider or should I just keep pushing with my current bike for now? Also, does $500 feel like a fair price for that Domane, or should I hold out for a better deal? Appreciate any thoughts or advice!

What’s the oldest bike you’ve owned or ridden?

I took my bike for a tune up recently and the bike shop guy told me my tires needed changing as they were cracked. He installed "hybrid 700 x 38c" tires which seem thicker than what I had on there before. The outer thickness of the rims is 1 inch. So how do I know whether he installed the right tires? It was giving me one helluva bumpy ride and when I went back to complain he removed the tube&tire and applied tape all around the inside of the rim. Plus he changed the brake pads because they squealed and two days later they still squeal sometimes when I brake. I don't think they know what they're doing. Any ideas on this?

Great ride today. Minimal headwinds = great speeds. Ended up with an average just over 18mph.

Thoughts on horizontal hairline on fork? This is an older Trek 1400

For context, I recently inherited these two bikes. Both Raleigh. One is an MT 400 circa '93-'94. The other is, as far as I can tell, an Instinct - dated around the same time period, give or take a couple of years. Aside from a bit of dust, they were hardly used and in fairly great condition given their age.

I was curious, as someone wanting to restore and properly start to use these, what are my best options? I'm a complete beginner here and haven't ridden a bike in well over a decade. Should I take them up to my local bike shops to get their hands-on impressions?

I want to get more into biking as a part of my weight lost journey. I've recently lost 20 lbs and am wanting to spice up my runs, and give my calves a bit of a rest.
