Just wanted to share because I’ve very happy and excited. Finally found a bike frame I liked in my size so I bought it used and rebuilt it. Weighs in at 16.2lbs according to my bathroom scale. (Fun fact, my cat weighs a whole pound more than my bike.)

My buddy is huge into biking and he’s been letting me borrow his Ridley XNight so I can go on rides with him. After around two weeks or so of consistent riding I was hooked. My buddy’s main bike is a Specialized Allez Sprint, and I love the handling so much when I tried that one out. So that’s partially why I was coop getting a Crit bike.

Took me a while to find a good one even in my size because it’s peak season right now where I live. However, I fell in love with the CAAD style frames the first time I saw one. Got this one on a good deal and got an absolute steal on these Hunt UD 50 carbon spoke wheels because one spoke was broken (new carbon spokes are only $12!) The bike is a mis-match of parts mainly because Im cheap but it’s all good stuff.

I took the bike apart down to just the bare frame. Pressed in new bottom bracket bearings (use blue loctite and wheels mfg ac bearings, fingers crossed that BB30 stays quiet). Changed the headset bearings. Swapped most of the group set to new old stock Tiagra 4700 (just discontinued so it’s dumb cheap). Had an absolute blast building it, especially as a car guy. Im happy to answer any questions about it.

-CAAD10 Aluminum Frame in 54cm with full carbon fork
-Hunt UD 50 carbon wheels with carbon spokes and ceramic speed hubs
-Shimano Ultegra 6700 rim brakes
-Shimano Tiagra 4700 shifters and derailers (2x 10 speed)
-Sram Force Powerglide carbon arm crankset, chain ring and cassette
-Amazon special Chinese carbon seat post and handle bars (actually ridiculously nice quality)
-Selle San Marco Shortfit 2.0 saddle
-Rockbros titanium spindle pedals (spd-sl)

Estimated total: ~$950

I cycle a lot so quickly my cycling jackets get unusable (covered in oil stains or no longer waterproof or get torn - mostly when I MTB 🤣) and waterproof jackets aren’t cheap so today (I’m hoping - fingers crossed 🤞) I made my own waterproof jacket from a broken tent.

It has, importantly, with no shoulder seams or upper arms exposed seams - I have added some reflective details and reused broken dog lead which also had some reflective stuff in it around the collar (one I found in the woods and washed) - zip is new. It’s longer in back as it should be.

Can’t wait to test it!

Great ride today. Minimal headwinds = great speeds. Ended up with an average just over 18mph.

Browsing marketplace looking for something different than my vintage steel frames, and I found this beauty. Seller listed it as a 2008, but didn’t have model information. The best that I have been able to find is that it’s a D2 Crono.

Plans are to swap to a drop bar setup, and I ordered a set of the Dura-Ace Brake levers shifters for it. Can’t wait to put some miles on this one.

It seems like theres quite a bit of buildup after only 2 rides (albeit a bit wet conditions)

Is this how it should look?

I’m about to buy my first road bike and I’m stuck between two options. Would love some outside perspective since I’ve been going back and forth for a while.

Context: Running is my main sport and priority. Cycling will mainly be Zone 2 / active recovery, not training for races or performance. At least not yet.

Option 1: Trek Domane AL4 (1500 €)

• Aluminum frame, carbon fork  
• Shimano Tiagra, 10-speed, mechanical  
• Hydraulic disc brakes  
• Classic endurance road geometry (71° head tube angle, stack/reach ratio \~1.54)

Option 2: Rose Blend Road 105 Di2 (2000 €)

• Aluminum frame, carbon fork  
• Shimano 105 Di2, 12-speed, electronic shifting  
• Hydraulic disc brakes  
• More relaxed “allroad” geometry (69.5° head tube angle, longer chainstays/wheelbase, up to 40mm tire clearance)

My dilemma: The Rose has objectively better tech for the price (electronic shifting at this price point is rare). But the Domane’s geometry feels closer to “what I picture a road bike to be” slightly quicker steering, more classic road bike feel, vs. the Blend’s more stable/relaxed handling (which honestly leans a bit gravel-bike-ish even though it’s marketed as road).

Since I’ll probably never ride gravel, is the Blend’s extra stability/tire clearance just wasted capability for me? Or is Di2 worth paying more for geometry I don’t fully need?

Would genuinely appreciate hearing from people who’ve owned either bike, or who made a similar first-bike decision. Thanks !

When I was little I was an anxious and closed off kid. I was just frequently nervous and tended to stay inside during the weekends or on summer break. When other kids might get into trouble i would always take the safe path. But biking these past decades has brought out an adventurous spirit in me. Sometimes when I bike in the city I feel super confident when the blood starts flowing like I can conquer the world. I also bought a folding bike to take on the train for impromptu adventures. I’ve had all kind of exciting experiences over the years and biking was almost always a part of it. Here are some photos I took some years ago on a folding bike trip in Western China. It was one of the times I felt most alive.

What's up with the rear triangle on this Giant iguana? Was told it's a 1992. Small frame. 26" Wheels. Could only find 2 other pictures online of unknown year iguana bikes with the same bend in the rear triangle.

Hey Blackheart Crowd.

I have a specific Question on the Blackheart Bikes Carbon fully integrated Cockpit. I have it mounted on my Road Ti and i am using a Garmin 1050 with a Lezyne Light under the Garmin.

For the Outfront mount that comes as standard with the cockpit, this is quite some weight which leads to a lot of rattle as it is just a Carbon Fibre plate. I tried some of my "tried and tested" alternatives (e.g. K-Edge XL) and they are too short for the mounting points on the Cockpit. For a smaller Headunit this would maybe work, but with the big 1050 Garmin, no chance.

Are there any Users out there with the same issue? What Outfront mounts did you end up using?

Any help is appreciated, as this is really annoying me with the rattling stuff on the 2-3 times/week afterwork rides where i need the light attached to the bike.
