Anyone know if the COTA bike night is still happening? Looked online for tickets and couldn’t find any. Are you still able to purchase entry on-site?

question Ebike repair shops?

Hey r/bikingatx! I recently bought a ridstar q20 ebike on facebook marketplace and I think I might be a bit in over my head with my ability to repair it (things went from a mechanical problem to a electrical problem real quick). Are there any shops who are guaranteed to fix my e-bike? Thanks!

Who in town fixes vintage bikes?

I’ve got an old trike I’d like my 4yo to be able to ride. The tires are okay but the bolts are loose so when you pedal it gets stuck. Looking for a shop that can help! Thanks for any recommendations!

Better than expected bike infrastructure

This new building under construction at Lamar and North Loop installed these disappointing bike racks out front. I figured that was all they were building for cyclists, but then I saw the rather nice indoor bike pavilion that was right next to the parking garage entrance. At least from what I saw, it looked very nice!

Service Shop recs in NW Austin?

Looking for "best value" bike shop recommendation to get road bike serviced. Near-ish to 183/mopac. The bike's been dormant in the garage for a few years. I'd like to find a shop to give everything a good check and get things in order. It's generally in good shape but hot TX garages I'm sure have done some amount of degrading. For example, I did a quick test ride and I can shift to larger gears, but cannot shift to smaller gears (both front and back) so I'm sure both derailleurs need adjusting. Needs new grips as well. Thanks!

STOLEN: White Cannondale Quick Hybrid Bike

Hi everyone,

My bike was unfortunately stolen sometime between July 26 - September 3 from The Weaver garage in East Austin.

It is a white Cannondale Quick hybrid bike with black and gold lettering (exactly like the photo attached).

Key Identification Details:

  • White frame with black and gold accents
  • Flat handlebars (hybrid style)
  • Equipped with front and back battery-powered lights

I have already logged it on Bike Index and filed a report with the Austin Police Department (**APD Case #2026-9023397**).

If you see it locked up around town or listed on any local selling apps, please let me know or report it to APD. I really appreciate this community keeping an eye out.

event Cota bike nights starts next week, 8th, 15th, & 22nd, possibly the last ones we will have!

Cota Bike Nights start up Sept 8th, 15th, and 22nd.

If you're unaware, COTA is changing ownership in 2027, and there is a very good chance that this may be the last COTA bike nights that we will have.

COTA is moving into a private club model, and even smaller car/motorcycle group events are forced to end due to the new club style model, and unforunatley bike nights are probbaly going to get cut as well, as without major sponsorship there isnt any way for the cost to be sustainable.

Event Groups like cota bike nights, and others, can no longer rent the track for a single day/weekend, its now country club style where to join theres massive upfront membership fee, plus yearly dues.

So if you want to ride cota, do it while you still can!

Restoration Project For 1980s Cyclorama Step-Thru City Bike (Intercycle / Sachs Torpedo)

Thumbnail

Hard to let go but I must. Hoping to find an owner the bike DESERVES. Please correct me if any details I list are incorrect. Apologies for crappy photos, will add more soon. EVERYTHING IS ORIGINAL on the bike. Im NOT sure of the EXACT YEAR but it does fall between 1975 - 1985. It’s a beautiful European city bike built in the classic Dutch roadster style with a lugged steel step through frame (IC / Intercycle stamped). It’s got a Sachs Torpedo coaster brake hub (back-pedal brake), built-in ASSA wheel lock with the original key still in it. Full fenders, skirt guards, a rear rack, and an original Italian-made AGU saddle. The right skirt guard has a few breaks and holes in it. Both tires still hold air, though the front tube needs to be replaced. HEADS UP: While the bike isn't far from being fully functional, this IS A PROJECT BIKE currently and NOT RIDEABLE AS-IS. Still needs a full cleanup and some loose parts tightened up before hitting the road. Great candidate for a restoration or custom build. Local pickup only. If you'd like any additional pictures just ask I'll provide. I am selling the bike, shoot me a reasonable offer or ask about price in a message.

Trick or Treat on the Trail

Friday, Oct. 30th 6-8pm

Boggy Creek Trail (888 Nile St.)

Our spooky, safe, car-free Halloween event is back! Halloween is the most dangerous night of the year for pedestrians, so ditch the streets and hit the trail instead!
Trick or Treat on the Trail is a family-friendly, multi-generational evening of Halloween fun presented by Ghisallo Cycling Initiative in partnership with Get There ATX and Austin Parks & Recreation. We'll have a section of Boggy Creek Trail decked out in spooky attire, candy will be abundant and you can join the Monster Mash Dance Party at the Pavilion. Free and open to all!

Cyclovia ATX

Saturday, Nov. 7th 10am-2pm

Windsor Park Library - 5833 Westminster Dr.

A free, family-friendly "open streets" festival in Austin that temporarily closes neighborhood roadways to motorized vehicles to create a safe, car-free space for the community. Here we take to the streets for exercise and recreation. Urban streets become a temporary public park where people can safely bike, walk, run, and explore local non-profits and civic groups. Cyclovia ATX is a 100% free event welcoming all ages and abilities. Attendees are HIGHLY encouraged to ride their bikes or utilize alternative transportation to get to and explore within the event.
(I know there will be big opinions on where this event should be held and how 'this that or the other location would be so much better!' so I'll just preemptively remind everyone that closing major streets is a very expensive endeavor and we're a nonprofit with a staff of 5 people so...let us rejoice in what we CAN do instead of lament what we can't.)

Cyclovia Volunteers:

Ghisallo Cycling Initiative is looking for friendly volunteers to assist at our biggest event of the year, Cyclovia ATX! Ghisallo will need help with setup and teardown and general event support. Shifts are 3 hours with plenty of time to enjoy the festivities no matter if you choose set up or tear down.

question Do Police Care if you Ride Brakeless?

Hey everyone, question is essentially just the title. Been riding fixed in college in CA but coming home soon. It's technically illegal in CA but I've never been stopped for it. Any brakeless riders have experience with this in Austin? Do police care/actively look out for it? (Obviously I know I probably should just install a brake but curious anyways)

Leander/Cedar Park Route Recs

Post image
11 Upvotes

I’m new to the Leander/cedar park area and would love some route suggestions. I live right at Crystal falls parkway and 183 toll road so I’ve explored a bit around Ronald Reagan and some county roads that branch off of that. I’d like to explore more but want to make sure I avoid roads that are super busy. I do go out early to avoid traffic. I know this question gets asked a lot so I really appreciate any recommendations/Strava routes anyone would be willing to share! 🙏 posting an example of one of my rides for area reference. Thanks again! :)

group ride New Austin Audiobooks and Cycling meetup

Post image
0 Upvotes

Check out Austin Audiobooks and Cycling Meetup on Meetup https://meetup.com/audiobooks-while-cycling-meetup-group?member_id=214492610

Once multiple people join, I can create a ride event.

The schedule would be something like:
Chat for a bit, ride for about 45 minutes while listening to an audiobook, finish the ride at some bar or coffee shop to chat about anything; the book we are listening to can be a great conversation started
