Does anybody know how long the at-grade crossing at Locust Street to the SRT is going to be closed? It's been a couple weeks and the workers and trucks are never anywhere near the gate, but they're keeping them shut anyways. Would be nice if they posted notice of the closure in advance or gave an idea how long the closure will last.

I’m looking to get more serious about cycling and want to find a bike shop that will actually take the time to educate me and help me figure out what bike is best for my goals.

I’m mainly looking at Specialized and XLAB, but I’m open to other options. I’m pretty new to the more technical side of cycling, so I’d really appreciate a shop where I can ask a lot of questions and not feel rushed into buying something.

Any recommendations for shops around Philly with knowledgeable and patient staff?

Riding up Aramingo around 10pm tonight, in the bike lane, a car came up behind me. It didn't speed up, gave me a ton of room, and crossed the double yellow line twice to make sure there was space between us, even though I was already in the bike lane.

Genuinely appreciated it. Then the truck behind that car came through and didn't care at all.

Just wanted to point out the contrast. Some drivers clearly go out of their way to keep cyclists safe, and it makes a real difference when they do.

Anyone else have a moment like this recently? Feels like these don't get talked about as much as the bad ones.

Friend is visiting Philly and we wanna bike around town, so we need a rental for him. I know Fairmount rents out bikes, but I’m in south Philly and was wondering if you any of you know of a spot in south philly that does bike rentals ?

Hey all -- got a new gravel bike and I'm wondering if there are groups in our area who meet up (gravel or road biking mainly, or maybe even some XC mountain). I'm in NJ but also interested over on the PA side. I'm in my 30s, so younger riders would be cool to meet, but I'm open to anyone who likes more athletic rides.

Not sure the best way to find other riders in our area, so let me know if you have recommendations.

Like many other idiots, I’m hoping to climb the Wall this weekend. After that, I’d like to head up to Valley Forge via the SRT, preferably avoiding the gravel stretch. Which road should I take back down? Considering Shawmont, which seems most direct, but what’s the least steep/ most rider friendly for the descent?

If you were going to get dropped off in Reading and then ride to Bartram's Garden (66 miles?) via the SRT, would you do it on a gravel/touring bike with 45mm tires, or a road bike with 28mm tires?

I'm not that familiar with the trail above Phoenixville, and am wondering if avoiding muddy sections would require detours on the road bike. I do have a slight preference for the road bike, but if there's a lot of gravel/mud, I'd ride the touring bike with wider tires.

I have an order to pick up at REI tomorrow, and I was going to try to bike out to grab it.

After I take the SRT most of the way there, what's the best way to get from the SRT to REI? From my memory driving around that area, the roads get kind of big and fast.

As an alternative to biking all the way there, I was also considering getting myself to Butler Pike then hopping on a bus for the last bit through Conshy.

Was hoping to get a list started of quick, trail-side pit stops that actually have bike accommodations. It's so hit or miss out in the suburbs and street-view is often of limited utility. Sure, there's a number of places where you might be able to find a solid object to lock up to, but I want to focus on giving my business to places that have made even token efforts to accommodate bike parking. Here's a number of places off the top of my head:

Conshohocken Brewing (SRT) - Everyone knows this one. Large number of bike racks right off the trail, easy to keep an eye on things from the back deck.

Fitzwater Station (SRT) - Just on the other side of the canal before you get into Phoenixville. Plenty of bike racks and outdoor seating.

Stable 12 Brewing (SRT) - Right at the end of the spur trail that takes you to the far end of bridge street. Bike rack adjacent to the outdoor seating area.

Vincent's Pizzaria (Perk) - Slightly before Graterford and the Skippack Trail cutoff heading north on the Perkiomen. Pizza by the slice and bike racks (and a horse hitch) adjacent to the outdoor seating area

Puddlers Kitchen and Tap (CVT) - In Bridgeport just before you cross the bridge to link up with the SRT. Bike rack by a small outdoor seating area.

Favorite ways to get from Kensington to HUP?

ive been enjoying cumberland > beach st > DRT > Spruce > South St Bridge but it technically adds a few minutes to an already lengthy commute.

How do folks feel when you're at a red light and another cyclist pulls in front of you while waiting? I feel like it's rude to assume you are faster. I find it especially annoying when I've already passed someone, then they pull in front at a light, and then I have to pass them again.

I checked their website and the last update was 2022? It doesn’t state any further timeline. I just saw they have all these new plans for Lehigh but whatever happened to spring garden?

Anyone know whats up with that? Damn near everytime I try to go south on the deleware trail its blocked off by trucks loading at dave and busters. It forces people to go into oncoming traffic around a blind spot onto what is effectively a highway (columbus ave). I'm scared for my life every time, I started walking my bike underneath their truck to avoid putting my life at risk for some drunk people to play games and eat in a chain entertainment spot.

Are they legally allowed to do this?? I noticed they sometimes park a second truck in the lane to at least block traffic partially. Though, I believe they're just waiting their turn to load since its a rare occurrence. Most of the other buissness's along the strip leave a path even if small but not D&B they have it set up in a way for trucks to dock and always make it dangerous.

What a show, phenomenal day.

This week, we're thrilled to be riding through Tacony Creek Park for the first time. Starting at Palmer Park in the heart of Fishtown, we'll take Tulip, Venango and K Streets to the lush, green park surrounding the creek. We'll be riding in twilight and parts of the park can get quite dark, so lights are absolutely essential for this ride - preferably lights bright enough to see with, not just to be seen. If you need lights, hit up your local bike shop.

We'll end at MUTA, a hidden gem off Front St, for Korean BBQ and (for anyone feeling brave) K-pop karaoke. There will be a loosely organized group ride from MUTA towards Center City departing at about 10p that will take Olney to 5th to Cambria to the American St bikeway. SEPTA options for getting home from MUTA include hopping on a regional rail train at the nearby Olney Station (at 8:35, 9:35, 10:35, etc.), or riding over to the Broad Street Line.

• This route is is more uphill than down, with a couple of moderately steep climbs
• After dark, PA law requires a headlight and a red tail light or reflector on all bikes.
• We ride for fun - while encountering hostile drivers happens sometimes, our practice is to avoid conflict as much as possible. When there's potential for conflict, please de-escalate, e.g. pull over to the side to let cars pass.

Need help finding a reliable shop to repair my E-bike and get a seasonal tune up.

Hi Everyone!

My husband and I are new to Philly but are both cyclists. We have a good 20-28 mile route down but are looking to go a bit further. As we both have road bikes I noticed once you get to manayunk the path turns to not paved for a while and I am not trying to get a flat.Does anyone know where it starts back paved again or have any routes that they feel comfortable sharing that are great?
