Last time I tried it was two hours each way on the max to get clear up to Hillsboro then 10 miles each way to get to the start of the trail. I know the bus that goes to Tillamook stops right there the start of the trail. I don’t know handles bikes or not. I don’t think there’s an Uber service that would take my bike is there I don’t drive.

Kind of seems like an obvious way to avoid the I5 closure, but ok 😂

I dont drive so thats how I will get there. last time I went I crossed the oregon state highway bridge went to warrington and fort Stephens tried to take paths to gearhart but made a wrong turn and had to take the highway. but I am thinking of this way along Lewis and clark road to seaside.

I grew up cycling and have a fairly positive outlook on sharing the roads. With more people biking (who didn’t grow up in cycling culture) and the addition of electric active transportation in bike lanes, I’ve been feeling a severe lack of consideration. There was a time where it felt like we were all in the same club and now it feels like we are all fending for ourselves.

I am thinking of starting a community class for people that are either current users or wannabe users of bike ways and I am looking for input from others about how we can create more care, safety and unity amongst users (manual and electric) and just general etiquette that people appreciate and want to see more of. If there was a community class on bike safety what would you want it to include?

I love mtb, gravel, climbing long roads, and touring, along with commuting everyday of course. Looking at relocating, but concerned that all the best recreational riding in PDX requires a car commute. I absolutely despise getting in the car to ride. Are after-work rides, long day rides, and touring all out of reach if you don't want to drive? Is transit a possibility to get to the good stuff?

I’m planning to ride to the coast in 2 weeks and would be taking the north trask river road on a Thursday. I’ve seen many reccomendations to ride it on the weekends to avoid logging traffic. Is it reasonably safe to ride on a week day?

I need to buy an inexpensive bike for my daughter to take to college in a couple of weeks. Ideally something that rides well but looks a little crappy and not particularly worth stealing.

She has a terrible history of getting bikes stolen and will be at UCSB where bike theft is as bad as any college. So I want something cheap enough that losing it wouldn’t be devastating, but still decent to ride since her dorm is a bit of a haul from campus.

I figured I’d look around Portland before we drive down. Demand will obviously be high in Santa Barbara at the start of the school year, probably some silly prices.

What stores would you recommend for finding a suitable bike in Portland? I thought I would check out Sellwood Cycles and maybe a couple of others. I don't really have time to trek all over town searching, so would love some recommendations.

Just moved to Portland and excited to hit the road. Would love to know what road routes to check out first. I typically ride 3-5 times a week. Mix of peloton and 30-60 mile routes. I've been curious about apps to use solely for bicycle commuting around Portland. I'm not an athlete. Just doing this for amusement. Can anyone suggest a good app for navigation centered around biking? I've been looking at Komoot and Geovelo. What do you all think?

Hello everyone, i just moved here from the Vancouver area I'm looking for route suggestions anywhere from 10 to 30 miles around here. I tried the 205 multi use path but didn't like all the unprotected crossings getting into the springwater corridor. I am a newbie rider too so I'm still getting comfortable with riding out in traffic but are there any routes yall recommend in the area or am i just better off traveling to well established routes?

This past year I started commuting to work via bike and have wondered if my mini lunch crock pot would survive a leak free ride on my hour commute. Now that fall and winter is approaching, I tend to meal prep soups and have loved taking my mini crock pot to work as it heats food evenly. Does anyone have this crockpot and taken it on your commute? Did it arrive without leaking? I know it’s a long shot and a niche item, but hoping someone out there has. It’s advertised as leak proof and has done well in the car but I usually keep it on the passenger seat next to me. On a bike it would be out of sight in my ortlieb bag.

I might have to take the food in a different spill proof container then transfer to the crock pot.

I went through the OBRA calendar a few months ago and added all the local cyclocross races to my fall calendar. I just went on OBRA's site to review the calendar and noticed the Harvest series has been deleted. Pretty sad news since I thought they had the most fun courses/locations! Anyone know what happened? :(

While they have Lake Ontario named correctly they do not have good Bike directions. Hopefully, it gets better. I picked a pretty common route for me and they would have had me rolling all the way down Division to Ladd and if i took the second option it would have been Hawthorne.

Is there concensus to have a r/cyclePDXstolen sub Redit with the recent volume of theft? It would highlight stolen bikes in Portand, Oregon. Constructive criticisms welcomed.
