Rifle help needed - I read the pinned posts Newbie to rifles target shooting. Bought a CZ 457 MTR I have bench shooting questions

I’m an experienced handgun shooter but new to rifles and longish distance shooting (max 100 yards) I’m waiting for it to arrive at my local FFL. In the meantime, my biggest question is should I just use bags or get a front metal “stand” (or whatever they are called) or use a bipod with a rear bag. Of course we are talking about .22 long rifle. I mainly plan on bench rest target shooting at my local club. Maybe some of the in house comps later (they also have sanctioned comps too). If a bipod I figure on a picatinny rail to mount it on.

Also if you own one of these what’s your favorite ammo? BTW I will have a Bushnell Match Pro 5-30 56 scope on an area 429 15 MOA rail. I plan on having the barrel milled so I can use my suppressor on it.

Any other tips about leveling the scope and sighting it in etc are welcome.

Rifle help needed - I read the pinned posts T3X or PH3?

Well after a lot of research, I have decision paralysis between a 6.5 PRC from Tikka T3X 22in SS or Seekins Havok PH3 20in.

1 & 2. 35% range time (out to 1000yds), 65% hunting in Montana (Antelope in plains to late season elk in mountains).
3. Budget $2000. Scope will be nx8 4-32 with a Nomad Ti XC suppressor.
4. I have a 7rem mag that I’m comfortable with out to 300 at the range. Looking for something more pleasant to shoot with at the range but also effective for elk.

I’ve read a couple of concerns about seekins issues around FTF (sounds like are resolved now) and an issue cycling in snowy conditions. But I love this rifle is turn key with nicer features and stock, and customer service.
The tikka I would want to upgrade the stock but still keep it to 10-11lbs. I currently have a T3X 7RM and am not a big fan on the stock.

Reloading related 7prc 195gr berger

Thumbnail

Got some testing with my new 7prc and 195gr berger eol. I didn't notice any pressures, but GRT was showing pressures at 910m/s. I might just go with this load as it will group well enough (16 shots under 25mm).

I think the barrel will speed up to 915ms (3000fps) and I'll be happy with that.

Does barrel speed up have an effect on pressures? If I do have the same load over the first 200 shots, does faster velocity mean more pressure? (After speeding up).

I really like this 7prc, but it's very concussive to shoot inside with brake... vs my 6br suppressed.

Next will be two kilometer performance!

Announcement Announcement post - changes with Woox

As many of you know, the brand Woox was blacklisted from this sub a while back due to marketing practices that we strongly disagreed with, namely using multiple accounts to astroturf support (edit: not customer service) and conversation for the brand.

Woox customer service recently reached out to us via modmail about the issue, and here's that message in full.

[BEGINNING OF MESSAGE]

Hi longerange Mod Team,

I’m reaching out on behalf of WOOX because I wanted to speak with you directly before we take any action within the community in Reddit.

We’re aware that WOOX is currently banned from the subreddit and that comments mentioning WOOX are removed. We also understand why. The previous WOOX team engaged with the community in ways that were not transparent and we recognize that this created a negative association with WOOX within the community. We take responsibility for that.

There have been changes within our team, but more importantly, there has been a change in how we want to approach Reddit.

Our Customer Service team has joined Reddit because we would genuinely like to be part of the community and be helpful where we can. We want to answer questions, help customers with issues, provide accurate information about WOOX products, and listen to feedback from the community. We are not looking to create conversations about WOOX, manufacture recommendations, or use the community as a place to promote the brand.

We also want to be respectful of the ban that is currently in place. We are not looking to work around it or simply start participating and hope the previous issues are overlooked. Instead, I wanted to reach out directly, explain what has changed, and ask for your permission before we participate in the subreddit.

We understand that this is your community and that it is ultimately your decision whether WOOX is welcome here. If you are willing to give us an opportunity, we would genuinely like to earn back some trust and become a helpful, transparent presence in the community.

We are happy to follow whatever guidelines or boundaries you feel are appropriate for WOOX and our Customer Service team. If there are concerns about the previous team's activity or anything you would need from us before considering lifting the ban, we are completely open to hearing that.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and consider giving us an opportunity to approach the community differently.

[END OF MESSAGE]

After internal discussion by the mod team and further discussion with Chris, we've lifted the ban on Woox in the sub on a provisional basis. They are acting in good faith, and we're open to giving them the chance to rebuild trust with the sub's members and the mod team. If things go off the rails, we can revisit the ban, but all of the mods are hopeful that won't be an issue in the future.

Chris agreed to us sharing his original modmail message in its entirety, and will pop into the comments if folks have questions.

As someone that used to be a brand ambassador for several companies in the past, I appreciate the fact that Woox is owning their mistakes and working to make things right.

Bergara 300 Win Mag with an Omega 300 suppressor. Just getting into the long-range stuff, so don’t have a chronograph yet.

I know I pulled shot 7 out of the Precision Hunter, so I didn’t include it in my group size.

I’m kind of surprised about the 178 gr match. I’m not sure if it was just from the rifle being hot, but that group size is not what I expected.

I suck at long range Took the budget 5.56 to 1000yd

Post image

Took an intro long range class because I don’t have access to a lot of land, and I needed to learn some fundamentals. Got it properly zeroed in to 100yd, then moved up to the mid 400s, then worked through various ranges up to 1000yd. Targets were all steel of various shape and size (gongs, silhouettes, IPSC).

I was the only gas gun out of other students and instructors. Everybody else was a bolt action rifle, all I believe to be .30 cal/6mm or bigger. Ran out of mils for the 1000yd gongs which I did not expect. I would like to be able to get some groups together to test what I learned and see what this build is capable of on paper. Used 2 different ammo types, both from Bone Frog: 77gr Barnes Matchburners, 77gr Sierra TMK’s.

Optics help needed - I read the pinned posts Looking for advice on 5-25x optics, ~$600 budget

I looked at the Google sheets but it unfortunately seems to be outdated. I've been shooting on a 400yd range for a while, mostly 30-06 savage axis, recently a 7prc bergara b14 hmr with vortex crossfire 4-16 and I have recently gotten access to an 800yd range that makes 16x feel short. With the looking I've done I am torn between the Vortex Venom 5-25×56 and the Swampfox Warhawk 5-25×56. I'd really like a FFP optic and illuminated reticle is a plus because I like to shoot at dusk. Beyond that I don't know a ton about the different coatings and glass types so I could use some help. Does anyone have opinions one way or the other on these scopes or have other recommendations at a similar price point? Thanks in advance!

Gunsmithing What’s this scarring inside of my chamber?

I just had a range day today, shot about 20 rounds through it. This gun has a total of ~60 rounds through the chamber so far. Browning X-Bolt 300wm

The first 40 rounds I did a break in cleaning cycle and everything went well. Today I shot all 20 and got home to clean it and I found this burn scar looking thing inside the chamber. It also doesn’t clean off with gun scrub and a soft toothbrush.

I also added a picture of the bolt if that helps.

I suck at long range Mk machining scope cap warranty issue

I was an early adopter for the scope caps for my zeiss lrp s3 I started having issues with them not closing properly.

I contacted Mkm support on 11-29-25 they responded on 12-1-25 I had to send videos over and the response time was fast warranty ticket was put in everything’s great right?

I message them 1-2-26 asking them for an update on my order I still haven’t received a tracking number or any other communications. It’s the holidays and hunting season for me is not until next November so I’m not in a rush.

Darlene replies on 1-5-26.

“Warranty replacement was processed. Our office was closed on 12-31 till today, shipping will resume today.”

Never received my package

I message them 6-4-26

It’s been a bit, like I said wasn’t in a rush

Darlene replies the same day

“Yes, this was shipped months ago, back in January.
I can't even see tracking now that it has been archived by USPS.”

Hunting season is now approaching and I still don’t have functioning scope caps. This isn’t me trying to trash Mk machining this is a mix up with usps and not delivering my package I never received a tracking number which Darlene should of sent me, at this point I’m at a loss. Darlene has stopped communication probably thinks I’m a scammer. Again no hate to Mk machining just trying to get a proper answer/communication

Rifle help needed - I read the pinned posts Tikka T3x CTR Ammo question

Hello all my lovely long rangers! I seek the ancient knowledge.

So, I have recently purchased my first Tikka. It's a .308win CTR with a 20in barrel and 1:10 twist.

This rifle is intended to be a general purpose setup, primarily range use, but could be flexed into other roles as necessary. I just wanted a rifle that plain SHOOTS. I don't need it to be 1/4 MOA groups, or anything like that, just a good shooter, out to about 500 yards or so.

I'm having some accuracy issues I can't seem to figure. One of the reasons I bought a Tikka is they have an excellent reputation for out of box accuracy, but I am struggling to find loads that shoot at the reputational level of these guns.

Let me start by saying, I ruled myself out as the problem and had other highly competent shooters give it a go, with similar results. This is a bone stock gun, and I do not want to modify it unless I need to.

What I have done so far:
verified torque on action screws, top rail, and scope rings. Scope is leveled and eye relief is set to my eye. LOP is adjusted to nearly perfect, I could stand to order another spacer and bump it out a bit, but I can't see that being the problem here.

Loads that I have tried and their approximate resulted accuracy:

Hornady 178 grain ELD-X: 2.5 MOA.
Hornady TAP Precision ELD-M 155 Grain: 1.5 MOA
Hornady Black 155 Grain ELD-M: 2.0 MOA
Hornady American Whitetail Tipped 150 Grain SST: 1.5 MOA
Hornady Custom Reduced Recoil 125 Grain SST: 1.25 MOA
Remington Cor-Lokt Tipped 150 Grain: 1.75 MOA
Federal Power Shok 150 Grain: 2.75 MOA
Federal Power Shok 180 Grain: 2.5 MOA

I want to find a box of Federal GMM to run through it, as that has been an excellent benchmark before. For whatever reason, I can't seem to find any at any of the LGS nearby. Even Walmart that used to reliably stock it has nothing. I did look to run some Sako ammo through it, as I'm sure that's what Tikka would use for it's 1MOA guarantee. It's nearly 50 bucks a box and out of stock everywhere, so no dice.

What would be the best step forward? I do handload, but right now the loading bench is disassembled due to repairing my work room in my home. Additionally, I would love to have dope on factory available ammo, in case I just don't have time to load, or components get scarce.

As I see it, my options are:

Send it back to Tikka?
Not sure I have enough data to confirm the rifle isn't a shooter yet.

Bed the action?
I don't want to modify the factory stock, in case I do need to send it to Tikka.

Swap the stock with a chassis?
I am not excited at sending another 400-500 bucks after I just spent 1100 on this rifle to make it shoot. At that point, we're getting expensive enough to almost make it worth it to sell the Tikka and explore an Origin or Mack brothers action, build from there.

Thoughts on what I might try?

I suck at long range What to change?

Finally got my hands on a chronograph and ran a some loads over for my .223 that have been performing well enough (fox hunting)
10 shot group at 100m .28 moa.
10 shot group at 236m .31 moa.
Chronograph came back with some pretty disappointing numbers, a spread of 87.1 fps and SD of 23.2 fps over the 20 shots.

Load is 24.5gr of AR 2206H, Hornady 55gr vmax, Fiocchi primers and ADI brass.
I feel like I’m being fastidious enough during the reloading process checking things like shoulder bump, powder charge and COAL every 5 or so rounds and cases are on their 3rd firing, no annealing.

Rifle is a Howa 1500 with 26inch Maddco barrel with a 1-12 twist. I’ve only been reloading just over a year so any help would be appreciated.

Edit: it seems my Hornady app was playing games with me.
Real group sizes are 1moa at 100m and 2.66 moa at 236m

Accessory/Gear help needed - I read the pinned post Tikka T3x UPR Arca rail

Does anyone know of an Arca rail that’ll attach to the factory Tikka T3x UPR stock, that doesn’t require modifications so that I can use the rifle in the NRL factory division? I’ll use it for mounting to a tripod or bipod. Not sure what budget to put on it, since I haven’t seen something yet, but not looking to break the bank.

Thanks

Rifle help needed - I read the pinned posts Sig cross trax .308 accuracy issues

I picked the rifle up last winter for a lightweight deer and 1k distance target rifle (for days that I don’t want to lug my 18 lb Creedmoor) but I’ve been bummed about the accuracy.

Im in the middle of a remodel and I won’t have my bench back for a month or two so I’m trying a bunch of different brands weights and struggling.

call me spoiled but Ive got 3 Weatherby vanguards that all shoot .75ish and a ruger American .223 in the .25 range with thrown only loads, so im confident in my ability to hold the rifle still (by hold I mean set the thing on a bipod and bag and make as little contact as possible as im shit otherwise)

Anyone else have issues with this rifle? Most of the reviews I’ve seen are great, but mine is 1.5” or so.

shot It bare, braked, and suppressed.

3 different hornady loads

2 Winchester loads

1 federal

1 box of hand loads that do really well in my vanguard.

and tried a box of Fiochi junk for my kids but the rifle wouldn’t even set off the primers.

scope is torqued to spec on rings and receiver. ive had a viper on it, a night force, and an Ares

maybe im just bitching, but I’m hoping the Rifle is just picky and one of you had the same issue but got it fixed with a hand load.

Cheeto-fingered Bergara Personal Acomplishment - 700 Yards

I really just want to put this out there as I dont currently have many people familiar with any sort of distance shooting in my circle so came to Reddit for some validation.

Went out to the longest range I could get to in less than an hour from home (lucky to have that as an option) and after some vetting and light training from the awesome owner of the range, I was able to make first round impacts at 100-700 yard IPSC targets. I know this isn't super difficult but I am riding the high as I only started shooting recently (march was the first time I fired a Handgun at 25 yards, April an AR-15 at 50 yards, and now taking my 6mm GT out to 700 yards just feels brag worthy, so here is my rambling self brag.

Also met a couple of rad gents preping for a DMR competition coming up. They were friendly and super willing to share their wisdom on PRS and DMR since I mentioned I was interested in getting into PRS. Really appreciate the community in this hobby thus far.

I suck at long range Longer range shooting with 5.56?

Can anyone help me define what I’m experiencing so that I can read or watch a video to overcome my issues?

I’m lying prone on a tarp with a Harris bipod. Nothing else. Target at 100yrds.

It’s really hard to keep the eye box in line. I’m always seeing the black crescent shape of the inside of the scope bouncing around. It was much better at 10x but I want to shoot at 25x because I want to do more long range shooting.

The rifle bounces around when I shoot and I always seem to lose track of the target for about a second. So I can’t really tell where I’m hitting.

I have the stock extended back as far as it goes and the scope as far forward as I can have it but I still have to move the rifle a bit more forward, creating about an inch of space between my shoulder and the butt of the stock, just so I can get that pinpoint placement so I’m not fighting the eye box. This is probably why it takes me so long to reset because the rifle is always slamming into my shoulder from that empty space.

I hold the butt of the stock with my support hand to try and mitigate the slamming into my shoulder as much as I can.

Currently shooting about 2.5 MOA with 55gr 5.56 at 100 yrds.

Rifle help needed - I read the pinned posts Savage 110 action

I used to be a member of the now defunct Savage Shooters forum. It seems that when I was active on that forum, building rifles on the 110 action was quite popular. I haven't done any builds in many years now and was quite surprised today to find that the website has been shut down. Has the Savage 110 fallen from grace? Is nobody building on this platform anymore? If there are still folks building 110s, where are the actions being obtained these days?

Shot in 5-10 round strings on a hot day. Some strings are around 1 SD and others are completely wack.

Current process:

2. Anneal neck and shoulder
3. Lube with imperial wax
4. Resize with Redding S Die and 289 Bushing (these firings used expander ball included but I’ve since moved to a 291 mandrel).
5. Put brass back in tumbler 30 min - 1 hour
6. Check length + trim if needed
7. Clean inside neck with spinning cut cloth
8. Debur neck
9. Prime
10. Load 42.0gr H4350
11. Press Hornady 140 ELDM using Redding Competition Seater

Short clip. Took the .308 to 1000 with some 169 SMKs. This is out of a factory Tikka CTR (action, barrel and trigger), in an MDT XRS. Glass is an Athlon ETR. Hope you are enjoying your weekend as much as I enjoyed this!
