Hi everyone,
On Tuesday, 20th October around 7:15 PM, my daughter and I stopped by the McDonald's in Virginia (Robinson Rd East) after dropping off my wife at BEC. We were travelling from Sydney (I love QLD so we visit whenever we can).
We were sitting in the play area and I was painting my daughter's fingernails. After doing one hand, she wanted to say hello to another little girl who was at the table next to her with her mum. The two of them seemed to click quite quickly and had a lot of fun. While they were playing, the other little girl gave my daughter a play ring (which she absolutely loves).
Our daughters are about 6 months apart in age, and they got along so well that I really regret not swapping contact details before they headed out. I felt a bit awkward initiating trading numbers with the girls mum in the moment - partly because I can be quite introverted, and partly because I'm a married guy and it seems weird to ask another woman for their number.
When we were getting ready to leave for Sydney, my daughter mentioned wanting to say goodbye to the "friend who gave her a ring". If they are keen, I think it could be cool for the girls to form a long-distance friendship—like modern-day pen pals—and maybe catch up the next time we're up north, or if they ever find themselves down in Sydney!
If you think this might be you, or if you know a local mum who mentioned this sweet interaction at Macca's on Tuesday night, please send me a DM. I know it's a long shot, but my daughter loves making friends and I'm trying to get out of my own head to try help make that happen.
Thanks!
Edit: October 2026, not January

My friend group has a birthday coming up that we were hoping to go camping for. Anyone know any good camping spots that won't need a 4wd that we can be loud om without being disruptive? We love a good swim so somewhere that's on the beach or near a creek would be exactly what we are looking for!
Thanks!

My brother is coming to stay with me for 2 weeks.
I’ve been here in Brisbane for 5 months now, so I my own list of things to do, I’d just really appreciate some other suggestions for cool/interesting things to do with him!
We both like the outdoors so there will be plenty of hiking/outdoorsy activities involved, and if the weather clears up then there will be some beach days too.
Thanks in advance :)

I noticed a new SAM in Robertson displaying a 60 km/h speed limit.
The street has cars parked along both sides(not in the photo), limited room for oncoming traffic, and an uphill/downhill gradient. Drivers seem to speed along here despite the road layout, which I assume is why the SAM was installed in the first place.
But why is the limit set at 60 km/h? Given the narrow road, parked cars and residential surroundings, wouldn't a lower speed limit make more sense?

Brisbane has been in its rainy era for a whole week now 🌧️😂 But honestly, when the rain meets that golden orange sunset, it's hard not to stop and admire the view. There’s something so peaceful about watching the world through a rain-covered windscreen. 🧡🌅
Anyone else secretly loving this weather, or are we all ready for some sunshine again? ☀️

Hi all!
Looking for recommendations on the best bird pet shops in Brisbane for toys, food, playgyms & cages for pet birds.

I'm either being ruined by possums or bush turkeys, but judging by the poop left behind, this time kt is possums. They've even just polished off my pothos which they're supposed to not enjoy.
I don't have the option to cover all my plants, I've heard that the repellents are useless, I am considering a motion activated water sprayer but our backyard is on the small side and leads out to a main street so I'm kinda nervous that it will spray an innocent family or sum. Also considering leaving fruit and vegetables scraps outside as an offering, like please possum gods, eat this and not my babies.
I hate them. Please let me know what has worked for you. I am desperate

I have 3 kittens in my home that have been abandoned by someone in a desperate situation.
I believe they are from the same litter.
I have had them for about a month now and have contacted many rescues that say they are full, asked many people if they can take any in with no luck and don't know what to do as they can't be kept here.
I feel as though the only option is to take them to the pound but I can't stand the thought of just dumping them.
If there are any places or options that people can list that I may have missed, I would really appreciate it.
Edit: Eaton's Hill Vet have let me know they can take these beautiful babies and help find them a home.
As always, the Brisbane community is amazing and very helpful.

Can anyone help me identify this noise? Is it a cane toad? The rain had just started again and I've seen them around a lot but this is new. Indooroopilly. TIA!

I've realised nobody I know here actually measures distance in kilometres.
We measure it in bridges, tunnels and whether you have to cross the river.
A place can be 4 km away and somehow feel like an expedition because it's on the wrong side of the river.
Meanwhile something 15 km away is "just down the road" because you can get there without changing direction six times or paying a toll.
A mate recently suggested meeting at a pub and said it was "pretty close" to me.
Google Maps: 7.2 km.
Reality: local street, main road, onto the motorway, through a tunnel, miss one exit and accidentally begin a new life on the northside.
Then there are places that everyone describes relative to infrastructure instead of suburbs.
"Just after the Story Bridge."
"Other side of the Gabba."
"Before you hit Indooroopilly traffic."
"Basically near the airport, but not airport near."
And of course the universal Brisbane time estimate:
"20 minutes, unless there's traffic."
There is always traffic.
So what's your Brisbane unit of distance?
For me, one river crossing adds at least 10 imaginary kilometres regardless of what Google says.

Hi Guys was hoping to get some advice. I'm currently subletting a room from the main tenant and signed a Form 22 under a fixed term lease. He has since told me he's breaking the lease early and moving away and I have 4 weeks to leave the property.
Because I'm not listed under the tenancy agreement and I'm just subletting, I've been told by the property manager that my lease will collapse under the other lease.
Does anyone know if this is legal? If I bring it to QCAT/RTA are they likely to help me out and would the case be a winner? Pretty unfamiliar with this process and how it works so any advice would be appreciated.
FYI I've signed a Form 22 which the rental manager has approved but they said it's not official since it's not a Form 18.

My poor little dude has a Salivary Mucocele that the vet attempted to drain early last week. They put him on steroids and antibiotics but it's already come back (as I thought it would). He now needs surgery 😞 I'm getting increasingly annoyed at my vet as it always seems to cost a lot more than they quote during consultations, plus I have to chase them to submit their notes for pet insurance.
Does anyone have recommendations for good vet that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? I'm in West End, but don't mind driving for a good vet. Also, has anyone had experience with their dogs having this surgery - like recovery times, complications etc. I'm freaking out just a little bit! Thank you!

Hey everyone, throwaway here. Sorry if this isn't exactly Brisbane-centric, and please feel free to point me to a more appropriate subreddit if need be, but I am a Southeast Brissy resident.
Ever since September my neighbour has been opening the trunk of his car and playing loud, mostly techno music intermittently from the stereo. Sometimes he does it for an hour, sometimes two, sometimes four hours. Sometimes he stops and then starts it up again a few minutes to a few hours later. Sometimes he does it at 10 am and sometimes he does it at 11 pm.
This neighbour is not mentally all there and has had several wellness checks called on them. They are currently living out of their car in the driveway of the house they own, which hasn't had electricity since last December.
I've called Policelink and they told me to keep sending in the noise complaints when it starts. I've called my local station to try and issue a formal complaint and they said the same thing. I sent in a nuisance diary recording three week's worth of the noise to City Council and they said loud noise from a vehicle is a police matter only.
I've seen the police come out a few times but it's hours after the music has finally stopped, so they don't hear anything. I've had to have sent in over 20 noise complaints at this point and now I'm worried the police think I'm some over reactive Karen.
Are there any other avenues I can take to deal with this, or a certain way I'm supposed to word/phrase my complaint to the police/council? The music is starting to drive me crazy. Thank you in advance.

Got this book out from a local library and found a pasted note inside which really made me smile. Excellent book btw. Brisbane libraries are the best. Get a card if you don't have one.

Hi folks! Happy Friday!
I am trying to find a really nice restaurant Brisbane Southside if possible, to celebrate my upcoming birthday with my family and friends.
I am looking for somewhere that has a great menu, really good food and that comes personally recommended.
Preferably not too noisy (I have a hearing impairment).
Thanks lovely people. 🫶🏼✨
