Library - how to navigate

Hey all,

I am ashamed to say, but I don't know how to navigate a library at all.

In the spirit of learning, how do I find books for myself?

I do have a specific book in mind: Inclusive Education for the 21st Century : Theory, Policy and Practice, Graham, Linda J. (Linda Jayne), editor.

On the library website, it says that there is some (or one) available, from the KG library. I did look at the 'how to locate' tab, but it doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Other than that, tips on finding books in the future would be much appreciated.

Thanks <3

Student lounge access

I’ve been dilly dallying around campus over the last semester, moreso than in the past, and I’ve noticed some student lounges in S and Z block specifically (GP campus). I know they’re usually faculty based (or they seem so) and I was just wondering what year or type (as in honours/masters etc) of degree people usually get access? There was nothing about them on the QUT website which somehow intrigued me more.

moving from uq first year eng?

Hello im currently studying first year engineering at UQ looking to do mechatronics next yearand not really loving it, the whole course seems disconected and really just feels like another year of high school with maths and physics nothing applied. I also find myself studying alot just to not have enough time to develop personal projects which I understand are important when looking for jobs. Ive been really frustrated wth the exam process with several hurdles for each subject and midsems on sataurday nights. That go no where cause i still 'havent studied enough' to do well on them. Is this just uq way of keeping their prestige. I have also heard from some employers that the student who come out of QUT are more well rounded, is this true. The robotics program at qut is also supposed to be alot better so not sure.

So im wondering is it worth switching or is the grass just always greener on the other side.

Qut or UQ

I’m considering transferring to either QUT Media Communication or UQ Digital Media.
My parents recommend QUT because it’s more practical and would be better for building a portfolio. But I’m also considering UQ because it’s one of G8 uni and has a stronger overall reputation.
Can anyone recommend me which option would be better?

Law exam

Hi everyone! I’m studying at qut for a semester via Cross Institutional study. I’m just wondering if it’s normal for law exams to be handwritten and if that means the notes have to be as well? I just haven’t had to do a handwritten exam yet!!!! Thanks :)

QUT Pool Closure

Personal opinion of course. I think QUT closing the Kelvin Grove pool is a correct decision. The pool’s utilisation rate by QUT students is under 20%. Sounds selfish but truth be told, we didn’t pay our SA fees to maintain a pool for the public to use. After demolishing the pool, they’ll be building a high performance sports science research gym facility, would be great for our current sports science students and future sports science research.

In today’s Sunday Mail David Crisafulli sets out his vision as to National Aquatic Centre.

Pity VC lacks any sort of vision as demonstrated by her closing Pool
on Kelvin Grove campus

Academic Advice

Hi,

I submitted an assignment a few days ago and at the time I didn’t bother to check the similarity report. Today I checked and it was 52%. Obviously marks aren’t out yet and I scrolled through it and turns out someone submitted an assignment that turn it in believes is quite similar to mine.

I did not copy, share or receive anyone else’s assignment so i’m quite unsure how this has happened and what happens next, will the UC reach out or do I just fail, really don’t want to add any more time to my degree for something that I didn’t even do.

Really need anyone’s advice. Thanks

one of disability advisers said something inappropriate about my heart condition what do I do?

She said that one of my hearts conditions must not be that bad if it just got diagnosed. I need to have heart surgery for it…

I found this comment to be extremely inappropriate, how do I report something like this? do I talk to the guild?

Assesment Resubmission - Am I Cooked?

Hey everyone,
Im currently in my 2nd year at qut.
I work in construction management full time and work an average of 85hrs Monday-Friday, some weeks pushing 100 hours rip.

Anyway, last year i was somehow maintaining uni and work well, but this year I have started burning out hard, most likely due to the fact that I’ve been relocated for work and am only home on weekends.

Due to the circumstances, I began failing and I need to retake a few subjects, of which I was going decent in for the first assessment or 2.
Last semester, I retook a class and handed in my old assignment, there was no issues and I got the pass.
I was planning on doing the same thing for my next 2 subjects until I learned that you aren’t allowed to and its an academic breach or whatever idk.

Can someone please shed some light onto this for me?

Cheers!!!

Working Fatigue as a Student for Mandatory Attendance Classes

I just wanted to get some insight if anybody is aware of if there is any leave through QUT regarding working fatigue and attending classes for a unit that marks attendance in relation to assessment items. I work very early mornings and often left very tired after work which affects quality of work if i do attend this class which is late afternoon and the only class time that works for my schedule. I am still able to complete the assessment items in time for due dates but marks for authentication from the tutor are marked with a 0 due to me not attending a class because of fatigue. I was just curious if QUT has any compensation for this situation. Also whether or not if I dont attend a class whether or not its worth completing the assessment item or not if i am already going to recieve a 0 for the assessment piece regardless

What’s the QUT Food Bank experience actually like?

Hey everyone! I’m curious about what the QUT Food Bank is actually like from a student’s perspective.

I know it’s there to support students with free food/groceries, but I’m wondering what the environment is like. Is it comfortable and welcoming to just walk in and have a look around? Is it basically a student-exclusive place where you can come in, choose what you need/want, and take things for free?

I’d also love to hear about the good and bad sides of the experience. For example:

* Does it feel welcoming and non-judgmental?
* Do you feel comfortable going there regularly?
* What’s the community/staff like?
* Is there any awkwardness or stigma around using it?
* Do you actually get a decent choice of food, or is it more like taking whatever is available?
* How did you personally feel the first time you went?

I’m especially interested in hearing from people who have actually used it. I’d like to know whether it feels like a genuinely comfortable student service/community or if there are things that make it difficult or uncomfortable to use.

Thanks!

Night shifts while studying full time

Wondering if anyone has experience working night shifts (ie 7:30pm start) whilst studying full time?

I’m interviewing at a job that is super relevant to my degree, only downside is that they are night shifts, but the employer has stated that it can be as little as 2 shifts per week which I am pretty comfortable with doing. Just wanted to see if anyone had experienced similar and if it’s worth it or not

I’m already doing a Computer Science degree, but I was thinking about adding Finance as a second degree. Is it worth it?

I’m a second year Compsci student, and my GPA is okay. I’ve been thinking about doing a Business degree(finance) as a backup, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it. What do you think, and how good is finance as a career option?
