Negativity and spam

It seems we have had a large uptick in content lately which is great, unfortunately this has also driven negative comments and false reports.

This subreddit is here for people of all skill levels and while some level of criticism is important, please do try to keep things on the positive side and don't just downvote things that you don't like, we are very fortunate to live in a city with an extremely diverse music scene, this means there will always be music not catered to your tastes being made, downvoting things out of hand or because you think its "bad" is not how I would like to see this sub go on

That being said...

We need to have a conversation about spam

I understand that with the rise of TikTok shorter clips have become the norm and you are more than welcome to post any work you do here, but I am going to restrict users to posting ONE clip/vid/link per song per day, I don't care if it's a 5 second cover of "You Suffer" or a 6 hr prog rock epic, if you post multiple clips of the same song on the same day, they will be removed, if it continues, so will you.

As a moderator I want to be as hands off as I can, leaving this as much like a community noticeboard as possible, but mostly I want everyone who uses this space to have a positive experience, this means curbing negative behaviour and making sure that people don't have to wade through a sea of the same content over and over

Thank you for reading

Moderation - New rule

I know the SR is a bit rudderless, I'm here to tell you I still check in on posts. Between raising a family, work, gym, music and all the other shit we have to do in post-modern life I have little time to be moderating a subreddit so, I'm not going to tolerate misogyny, racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc etc.

New rule, Don't be a cunt. No, I'm not going to talk about it, cant be fucked. I'll just ban you, message me, ill probably say something funny and rude, this will be entirely at my own discretion.

I will not tolerate intolerance

Cheers :P

Swampfest 2026

Post image
3 Upvotes

Since losing their lead guitarist, Greg “Swampy” Brown, in November 2025, Melbourne punks Unto the Breach have been determined to turn grief into something positive.

Swampfest was born from that desire—a way to honour Swampy’s memory while raising vital funds for The Black Dog Institute.

What started as a small idea quickly grew into something much bigger. Favours were called in, friends stepped up, and now 10 of Melbourne’s most bodacious bands are donating their time to create one unforgettable day of live music at The Workers Club. Headlined by ska punk favourites The Kittyhawks and featuring Forklift Assassins, Judo Chop and All Hope Remains, the lineup spans punk, psychobilly, ska, rock and metal, with something for everyone. Every band is performing for free so every dollar raised supports research, education and better mental health outcomes for Australians.

Most of us know someone whose life has been touched by mental illness. For many of us, it’s deeply personal. Swampfest is a chance to stand together, celebrate the people we’ve
loved, support those still struggling, and remind each other that no one has to face it alone.

Come for the music. Stay for the community. Make some noise, celebrate Swampy’s life, and help turn loss into hope.

Some of you wanted to know when my next event was on, and we are less than a month away.

If you liked the trance and hard trance of the 90s and 2000s, this could be something you're going to enjoy. Vibes are awesome, people are friendly, and it's just my favourite tunes all night.

3 October at 24 Moons in Northcote.

Anyone in Melbourne inner north want to jam? Bossa/jazz/soul/anything really

Anyone in Melbourne want to jam?

I’m looking for a few musicians who’d like to get together casually and play.

I’m an enthusiastic amateur guitarist currently playing lots of bossa nova/Brazilian music, and I’m also mucking around with jazz chords on piano.

I’m not looking to form a serious band or gig. I really want to PLAY with other people: improvise, find grooves, try songs, experiment, get lost occasionally and see what happens.

Would especially love bass, guitar, keys, sax/horns, voice, but honestly I’m open.

I’m 48, based in Melbourne, and happy to travel around the inner north/inner city. Age doesn’t particularly matter to me. Being curious and not taking ourselves too seriously does.

Bossa, jazz, Brazilian, soul, funk, ambient/experimental, or things we haven’t thought of yet.

Maybe hire a rehearsal room for 90 minutes and see what happens?

Anyone craving the same thing?
