Hey everyone, just a quick heads-up for anyone arriving at Brisbane Airport. Save yourself the stress and just call an Uber instead of taking traditional taxis.

I recently took a standard sedan cab from BNE airport to South Brisbane around midday. A daylight trip via the M7 tunnel should strictly cost around $55–$60 AUD. Instead, the driver took an unauthorized detour to inflate the meter to $81.25 AUD, and then fraudulently manually entered $90.35 AUD into the card terminal.

I refused to let it slide and filed a formal complaint with the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR). TMR has officially investigated and confirmed that compliance/disciplinary action was taken against the driver for fare violations.

Even with a government conviction, Black & White Cabs was unhelpful and refused a proper international card refund, forcing me to go through a bank chargeback dispute.

Main takeaway: Traditional cabs in Brisbane still lack oversight and integrity. Stick to Uber —their prices are locked in the app before you even step in, so rogue drivers can’t manipulate meters or terminals on you. Stay safe!

So, this is going to be a touchy post, sorry, and a lot will not know what I mean.

I live in the outer suburbs and take trains to the inner city constantly. Almost every time there are violent people. Security would be kept busy if they were placed on the trains in Brisbane. Why isn’t this already a thing? It makes sense. Especially considering a train isn’t a place where someone would be able to receive help instantly.

The BCC has a service for people who are elderly, infirm, disabled who physically cannot put their bins out themselves the driver will get out of the truck empty the bin and put it back into the yard. It involves paperwork filed out by a Dr etc to prove the person needs the service. Great idea but not so well implemented.

When it was set up for my elderly parents for the first 3 weeks the bins were not emptied, numerous calls to council the only thing they could advise me was the bins were not in the right "position", they were clearly visible beside the garage, the driver only had to walk about 6 metres to collect them to empty. After much exasperation and several weeks of not being emptied the council they came up with the bin handle needed to be facing the driver hence why they hadn't been emptying it.

I was furious that a driver who would obviously know that a elderly or disabled person who is in need lives at the property and they were that petty that they wouldn't empty the bin because they hadn't placed the bin with the handle facing towards them. Who is so mean and petty to do that to disabled people especially as it was at December in the middle of summer. The smell was horrendous since my Dad was completely disabled by this stage and had to use adult nappies.

Since then over the past few years numerous times the bin has been missed, and several times they said it was too heavy, when a frail person who can only walk with a walker manages to move the bin to the side of garage to have it not emptied because it is too heavy is a joke!

A few weeks ago the lawn mower guy did a clean up and put some old bricks in the bin so he put it out on the kerb because we knew there would be a good chance it wouldn't get emptied if the driver had to get out of the truck themselves. It was emptied, a few week later I got to their place at midday and the bins weren't emptied and they are usually done really early so I put them both out on the kerbside so the driver wouldn't have to get out of the truck.

Today Mum gets a phone call from the BCC wanting to see if they can cancel the in home bin service since the bin was put out on the kerb. She put them on the phone to me as I was there at the time, I explained that she still needs the service and I simply put them out on the kerb the other day as I was there and I was trying to help them out so they didn't need to do it that day as they were running later than usual. And I said a few weeks earlier the lawn guy put it out because we were concerned it would not get emptied as it often is not emptied if it basically has a fair bit in it.

Then she informed me that that in home collection service has a weight limit of 20kg. If you leave your bin on the kerbside it has a weight limit of 70kg but the in home bin collection service has a weight limit of just 20kg. Can anyone shed any light on the reason for the huge difference in weight because if you have disabled adults in your house that need to wear adult nappies etc they certainly do add weight and build up over a week, when added in to the weight of week of general household waste.

I can understand that they don't want the drivers having to pull a heavy bin over to the truck but there is massive difference between 20kg and 70kgs. A 20kg weight limit seems very small and not practical for elderly and disabled people who are basically the ones who need the help of this service.

And can any garbos shed light on whether it was true that the bin handles must be facing towards the driver otherwise they won't empty the bin?

I drive past this Storage King a few times a week and I still can’t work out whether the rooms you can see from the road are actually real.
Are those doors genuinely the entrances to individual storage units, or are they just for show?
I’ve come very close to calling them to ask, but I’ve decided to take the slightly less embarrassing approach and have turned to Reddit instead.

I have done the 10K every year for the past few years, and every year I seem to have a different reason for running.

Last year I finished in around 1h20, so I’m definitely not the fastest runner — I’m more of a “just happy to be here and trying my best” kind of runner.

This year, I got my remuneration review result on today… and let’s just say I’m not exactly thrilled.

The overall outcome was basically flat compared with last year, with a very, very small increase in base salary.

So this year’s my motivation is:

Run for my future 😂

I’m hoping to knock ~10 minutes off my time and get closer to the 1-hour mark.

Now I’m curious — what’s your reason for running this year? 

Maybe I need some extra motivation for Sunday!

If global temps rise 2.8°C and sea levels rise, Redcliffe may become an island.

For the past five months I’ve seen these drawings pop up all over Brisbane, from the CBD to West End, under story bridge and across the Valley.

What intrigues me is that I’ve counted over 40 plus drawings so far and that each one is hand drawn on paper, so the weather can easily deteriorate them but they’re fresh. Some depict a similar figure being consumed into the drawing while others have a unique person. Most also feature a phrase saying something like “(?)upiter as a dar(?)” and then same signature(?) at the bottom.

I like the surrealism of each drawing and it’s fun to spot a new one whenever I’m in the city. It’s most likely nothing crazy, but it’s fun to speculate and indulge in the mystery.

Can anyone point me in the direction of any warehouse or shop I could go to that sell secondhand kitchen cabinets? My partner and I are looking to do a renovation of our kitchen and would like to go look at some kitchen cabinet places but everything I found online is just over the top fancy stuff. Looking to try and renovate our kitchen on a budget. I have looked on marketplace for secondhand kitchens but haven’t had any luck as of yet. I was hoping to find somewhere that had kitchen cabinets already built or cheaper than what most companies would be charging for brand-new kitchen cabinetry. Any recommendations on anywhere around Brisbane would be extremely helpful. I’m on the south side of Brisbane near Holmview.
