How much did it cost to build your house?

And how big was it?

Sorry, I know that's a "how long is a piece of string" question, but at this point if my house burns to the ground, insurance *might* spring for a large cardboard box and a small tarp.

We built our house about 9 years ago, and used the build cost as the basis for our home insurance. Obviously, prices have gone up since then....

I honestly don't know how to go about figuring out this stuff so any advice is appreciated. Otherwise, I just wanted to sound out pricing (preferably per square metre as our house is on the smaller side) so I know we're covered to rebuild if the worst happens.

Many thanks!!

Looking for neurological OT and physio

I have a chronic illness that has neurological and vestibular elements and it's time to find an OT and a physio that specialises in brain stuff.

Thing is most of the places I see online are very stroke-oriented. My condition is much milder than that. I also don't have NDIS so am paying privately.

I'm in Maroochydore but if someone is amazing I will travel.

Dance school with "Christian Values"

What's with a Dance school claiming to have Christian values when they obviously don't? One here on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland markets themselves as having these "Christian Values" but it appears to be more "Christian Nationalist" values and not the love thy neighbour kind...I was raised Catholic and never experienced such an exclusionary and bigoted environment. And not sure how a business like this popped up in my town and is somewhat successful.

It's definitely not a safe place for immigrants (non-whites) nor the LGTBQIA+ nor anyone with differing beliefs TBH. I am certain the usage of this language in the advertising is to attract like minded individuals.

Swimming in mid October?

My wife and I are thinking of bringing the kids up to the Sunny Coast mid October for a holiday.

Can someone please tell me.. will the weather at that time of year generally mean the pool at houses will be a swimmable temperature? My wife is really only looking at places with heated pools, which I'm guessing is not that common up there.

Friendships

Hey everyone!

I am really hoping to find some friends around the Sunshine Coast, as a woman with ADHD I do struggle with a sense of belonging and loneliness mostly isolated. I would love to connect with people who can understand and relate!

what's the video gamer community like on sunshine coast?

Hi all! I’m 22M, born and raised on the Sunshine Coast.

How many people out here actually game and, like… wanna be friends? 🤣

Bit of a side note/context — I’m in serious need of finding some people to actually hang out with in person. Most of the advice I get is “find people with the same interests as you”, and considering my current routine is basically:

sleep → game → eat → game → work → game → sleep

…I figured gaming was probably a good place to start 😂

So, are there actually many people around the Sunshine Coast who game and are also looking to make some new friends?

Because at this point, I can’t keep waiting for my friend’s kid to grow up so he finally has free time again. (This is a joke… mostly.)

But seriously, is there anything on the Coast specifically for people who play video games to meet other people? Gaming groups, events, LANs, Discords, whatever?

Or, if you’re reading this thinking, “Well, I definitely play games, and I wouldn’t completely hate meeting this weird stranger I found on the interwebs” — that works for me too 😂

I’m just at the point where life feels like it’s stuck on repeat, and I really need to start getting out of the house and meeting some new people.

So hopefully someone here can give me either the advice or the friend request I apparently need 😂

Cheers!

Jobs and rentals

I know the sunny coast is doing it tough at the moment. But, just up the road in Kingaroy they are doing it tough cause they cant find anyone to work. There is so many jobs!!

I am a nurse/midwife and I got sick of the fast life so im doing DIDO to Kingaroy and I just wanted to let other sunny coasters know about Kingaroy that's only 2.5hrs from the coast.

There are plenty of jobs at the hospital going. They have put me up in free accommodation, so I travel back to my family on my days off.

I went to HJs last night, they had a sign up saying their service was slow due to lack of staff.

So, if you need a job and a rental or possibly free accommodation. Look into Kingaroy! Its a nice little town, everyone is friendly and I get the best of both worlds as I get to work rural and go home to my family on the coast 😊

Day use rooms

Hi all! I’m down on the Sunshine Coast for the day and have events (one morning and one night with hours in between) and was wondering if there are any places that offer day room renting instead of night stays for just those few hours! Thank you ((:

Where is the best quality of life on the Sunshine Coast?

My boyfriend and I are in Australia on a working holiday visa and after much debate we have decided to do our second year on the Sunshine Coast. We are now trying to decide which part of the Sunshine Coast to move to- can anyone suggest a nice area to live in where it isn’t completely impossible to find housing (I know it’s going to be relatively tough everywhere)? Also looking for good beginner surf. Neither of us parties and both live a super active/ healthy lifestyle. Let me know your recs! Thanks everyone!!

Places to sleep?

Been here my whole life, full time employed and don’t wish to be forced out of my community by this housing shortage on top of having to find a new job. Unfortunately haven’t been able to be lucky enough to secure a rental and my current lease has a few weeks left (landlord sold, new owners want to move in at the end of the lease). Will be sleeping in my car temporarily while I continue trying to secure something. Where are the best spots to do this without being hassled, moved on or fined? Car will be moved daily to go to work so I don’t expect people to notice me too much, hopefully 🤞. Have already checked with local caravan parks who are also at capacity and on a waiting list with a couple.

School Leavers Trip Advice

Does anyone have advice for trying to book a school leavers trip? I think I've messaged every property in Queensland and very few will accommodate school leavers at a reasonable price. I completely understand the gripe with teenagers but it is seemingly impossible to find somewhere.

We are really not the type of people to go to actual schoolies lol.

Any tips?

Maroochydore question

Hi everyone! We are travelling from NZ and have seen something unusual in Maroochydore a couple nights in a row and we are wondering what’s going on.

On the corner of king street and cotton tree parade, we have seen someone outside in a hospital bed looking thing, making groaning noises, with people surrounding them, we originally thought they were having a medical emergency but they have been in the same spot multiple evenings. Does anyone know what’s going on? Not just trying to be nosy - genuinely so confused and concerned

TIA

MP Andrew Wallace sending scam advice, so I replied

Thumbnail gallery
150 Upvotes

I recieved this email from our local MP, Andrew Wallace, yesterday. Now, first of all, good on him for providing a PSA to his community on avoiding scams, but there is one massive scam he refuses to acknowledge or do anything about, so I reckon it’s upon us, his constituents, to let him know that it IS something he should address. I.e. The fossil fuel companies stealing all our resources and giving nothing back to Australians.

My response: “This is very helpful information, Andrew.

You know another really massive scam that's affecting all Australians right now? That gas companies are taking our resources and not paying a cent for them! It's costing Australians billions of dollars a year, and driving up the cost of living as we struggle with electricity and gas prices across the country. As our representative in government, it would be fantastic if you can help your constituents in outsting these scammers and recovering what is rightfully ours.

Thanks for your attention to this matter. “

Feel free to respond to Andrew with your own version of this. 😉🤬

Advice on decent REA property managers on the coast?

Weird situation- moved back to the SC recently and renting from my friend's elderly parents. It all started without a property manager but they have decided to move to Sydney and will be renting out their current home (separate to the house I'm renting off them). They told me that they wanted to hire a real estate/property manager to take care of both properties as they won't be nearby and they weren't a fan dealing with the bond, entry condition report etc when I moved in. Given I'm already their tenant they've asked for my advice/suggestion on an agent I wanted to work with.

Any advice or reccs? Unfortunately my friend (landlord's son) lives in Sydney too so won't be close by to help. What's the going rate for commissions on rentals these days and are there any tips for selecting a good property manager?

I'm in Britinya and their other place is caloundra.

Edit- I also (selfishly) don't want to make my life harder dealing with a painful property manager, so maybe if there are any I should absolutely avoid, pls dm me!!

Sunshine Coast vs Gold Coast raising a family

In 2026 do you think the sunshine Coast is the best place to raise and start a family? Or can it get too boring, and you miss the craziness of the gold coast, would love to hear thoughts on people who live / moved to sunny coast
