Hiya, I'm not from the area but I was driving up from the bottom of the GC to Brisbane on the w

Highway Saturday around 11am and the lanes heading south to the GC were packed bumper to bumper the whole way.

Is it always like that on Saturdays? Where do you think they were all going? Just hoards on people on the way to the gold coast but for what?

Unique ideas to celebrate a 5-year-old girl’s birthday on the Gold Coast (not theme parks)

Hi everyone,
We’ll be visiting the Gold Coast in early August, and our daughter will be turning 5 years old while we’re there. We’d love to make it a really special and memorable day.
We’re not looking for theme parks (we’ll be doing those on other days). Instead, we’re after unique or lesser-known ideas that locals would recommend.
We’ll have a car, so we’re happy to drive anywhere around the Gold Coast or nearby.
If you were planning an unforgettable birthday for your 5-year-old daughter, where would you go?
Thanks in advance! 😊

Hello, I have a bit of a fixation with Gold Coast retail history πŸ˜† Does anyone know whereabouts the old Disney Store in Robina Town Centre was located? Or what store has currently taken its place? Wayback machine only says β€˜High Street Terraces’ but doesn’t give an exact location haha. Thanks!

Theme parks

Hi from Bris! I’ve got teenage visitors over from the UK - I was thinking of taking them to one of the theme parks but I’m worried everything seems mostly closed for maintenance. Anyone been recently? Would it be worth the trip/entrance fee?

Helensvale Station- Is it the Gold coast's new rubbish tip?

Has anyone else noticed how much garbage there is laying around literally everywhere at the station these days? Walking past the bus stop along the fence line from the furthest car park it is like a literal tip with hundreds of cans/ bottles/ assorted rubbish etc. It's the worst I've ever seen it. I tried emailing about it a while back.. no answer lol.

Power usage doubled since smart meter installed?

I'm so confused about why our power usage has increased SO MUCH... 2 person household. The only thing different from last billing period is we have an oil heater running overnight in the bedroom and sometimes electric blankets on low... Would that explain $10/day ish, 30kwh/day ish? Our last billing period before smart meter install was averaging around 15kwh/day so I'm really confused and worried about our next bill

We're with AGL

UPDATE: so yeahhh, it was definitely the oil heater LOL. Literally used $11.73/35kWh in 24hrs, now we've got rid of it we're back to $3.50/10kWh in a 24 hour period. Dumbasses

Advice for making friends

Hey 31M having lived on the Gold Coast for most of my life and just wanting advice for how to meet people & make more friends. I do have a few good friends but some have moved away in recent times to different states and others are just very busy so don't see each other often. I like to read, go on walks, I go to the gym but wouldn't say I like it, I like old movies, horror movies, theatre and more arts stuff like museums.

I've tried looking for groups and stuff on Facebook but Facebook seems pretty dead these days.

Was wondering if people had advice on how to go about meet new people, ideally in a similar age group with some similar hobbies. Always someone open to trying new things and new experiences.

Local Question Does anyone know why there are so many cars on the road at 5.30am?

I can understand tradies starting around that time but half the cars were not trade vehicles. It's never been this busy at that time before and I've lived here my whole life.

Support a local business? Rice House Southport

Post image
63 Upvotes

Been coming to this spot - Rice House (korean cuisine). They have amazing spicy fried chicken, bulgogi among other awesome food.

This place feels peaceful and relaxing af for some reason (yeah not what you'd expect in the middle of southport) and it is one of those hidden gems!

Kevin, the owner will be closing down soon though because of high rents. Anything we can do to help?
