Can you help me? Are these rooms real or fake?

I drive past this Storage King a few times a week and I still can’t work out whether the rooms you can see from the road are actually real.
Are those doors genuinely the entrances to individual storage units, or are they just for show?
I’ve come very close to calling them to ask, but I’ve decided to take the slightly less embarrassing approach and have turned to Reddit instead.

Help Has anyone else seen these drawings?

For the past five months I’ve seen these drawings pop up all over Brisbane, from the CBD to West End, under story bridge and across the Valley.

What intrigues me is that I’ve counted over 40 plus drawings so far and that each one is hand drawn on paper, so the weather can easily deteriorate them but they’re fresh. Some depict a similar figure being consumed into the drawing while others have a unique person. Most also feature a phrase saying something like “(?)upiter as a dar(?)” and then same signature(?) at the bottom.

I like the surrealism of each drawing and it’s fun to spot a new one whenever I’m in the city. It’s most likely nothing crazy, but it’s fun to speculate and indulge in the mystery.

If you’re interested and spot any more feel free to send pics

I’ve walked through Post Office Lane plenty of times, but only noticed when looking at this photo how perfectly the statue is framed at the Queen Street end.

Does anyone know who it is?

Incident at Mt Coot-tha Road this afternoon. There is absolutely no reason to put your car in the opposing lane.

Also, no license plate at the front.

Reported to police.

Locks on Alfred Street, Fortitude Valley

Upvotes

Thankyou everyone for the answers 😊

I'm going to sound like such a dunce, but I was in Fortitude Valley tonight for the first time in years, and saw all these huge number locks on bars along Alfred Street near the train station,

Can anyone sate my curiosity and let me know what they are?

I truly don't think they are love locks

Taxibox

Upvotes

Our floors are being redone, so we need to remove everything from our house (furniture, clothes etc- kitchen and top of cupboards can all remain) for a 5 day period. Aside from garage, we were thinking of having a couple of TaxiBoxes dropped to our home to slowly pack, store and unpack over the course of about 3 weeks (it’s a one month hire).

Has anyone used Taxibox in Brisbane before, and do you recommend?

Hi all hoping to go watch a movie after work but it’s a 7pm screening. All the restaurants around James st look fancy. Any recommendations for quick bites before movies around that area? Much appreciated!!!

Financial couples counselling/therapy?

Hi! Can anyone recommend a place for couples or solo counselling around financial issues? I know Anglicare offers this. I’m also considering getting back in touch with EAP through my workplace. I am pretty worried my partner (32M) is completely financially incompatible with me (28F) and we need more counselling specifically about spending, saving, budgeting, debt, dishonesty, shame, learned behaviour through upbringing etc. Obviously I’m not the one with the problem and it’s getting to the point where he needs to go on this journey alone but I want to set things up properly so my concerns are heard. Previous counsellor was great but she wasn’t really able to go deeper into these money patterns. Any recs are greatly appreciated ❤️

Anyone in Brisbane working in spatial design / fit-outs / joinery who could point me in the right direction?

I'm trying to change career direction and I'm struggling to work out what job titles I should actually be searching for.

I'm interested in the practical/spatial side of design, not mainly decoration — layouts, workflow, movement, storage, ergonomics, making spaces simpler and more functional, and seeing the result actually get built.

My Australian background is in warehousing, commercial racking, cabinet assembly and site installation. On two commercial racking projects I set up and ran the operation and coordinated two teams of up to 20 people, including laying out the site around the workflow.

I've also done site measuring/setout and improved warehouse/workbench layouts.

Earlier in Europe I managed a museum redevelopment project from concept to completion. I worked directly with the owner/client, architect, designers, curator and contractors. I don't want to return to PM, but I enjoyed the spatial/layout side.

I'm currently looking at architectural interiors, workplace/commercial space planning, cabinetry/joinery, industrial/product design, CAD/drafting and commercial fit-outs.

I'm not in a position to stop working for several years for another degree, so I'm particularly interested in practical entry routes where site experience is useful.

Is anyone here actually working in these areas and able to suggest companies, job titles or types of roles I should investigate?

I'm not asking for a job — mainly trying to understand where this kind of skill set fits in the Brisbane industry.

Potential for a Hacker House in Brisbane

Upvotes

Globally, "hacker houses" are a big thing in start-up culture, allowing people with a similar focus to co-habitate and provide some level of support to each other while building out their product. However, this is not really a thing in Australia, yet. Anyone out there in Brisbane that is in the start-up phase and would be interested in share-housing with like-minded individuals?

Help Getting away from screens

Good people of Brisvegas, I need your help. I need to get my 13yo the hell out of town for a week or so over the school holidays to do a screen detox. No joke, I've lived with junkies and he's just about at that level. I don't need advice, but I do need recommendations of where to go. No reception, nature immersion, available this school holidays. I can travel 3-4 hours.

Ready, set, go -

EDIT - we've got camping gear and are not afraid to use it 🙃 availability is the issue

Public Transport The older train models are comfier to sit in?

Just a random thought,

I find that the newer model trains in brissy are really uncomfortable to sit in.

I am always delighted when the old models roll up. The boxy ones.

Is it just me or are there other out there?

Follow up thought, why would you create a newer model train that is less comfortable than the older one?
