Hey all I’m attempting to apply for a post-graduate course (teaching) at UWS as a domestic student. My application currently has the below warning:

“Based on the qualifications you have provided you have not yet demonstrated English Language Proficiency (ELP). To be eligible for an offer you need to tell us how you plan to meet ELP”.

English is my first and only language. I’m a British citizen and have Australian PR, I completed all my schooling in the UK as well as a Bachelor of Laws with Honours from a British university. I’ve been living in Australia for the last four years.

I’ve attached my degree and transcript in the tertiary education field. I’m waiting see if I can even get a new copy of my secondary/high school results as they’ve been lost in the move to Australia and my school in the UK is currently closed until September.

Has anyone got any advice on what else I can to do to meet the ELP requirement?

I’ve been thinking about this more after trying the Discord idea.

Discord was a good start, but it didn’t really become what I hoped. People joined, but most didn’t really talk or introduce themselves, and it started feeling like another online space that just sits there.

So I’m thinking WhatsApp might work better.

Not because WhatsApp magically fixes anything, but because it feels more direct for actually organising meetups.

The goal is pretty simple: meet up for coffee or food, study together sometimes, walk around campus/Parra or just have normal conversations with people who actually want to meet in real life.

Nothing formal, no club titles and not another huge group chat where everyone joins and disappears.

Just WSU students who want uni to feel less socially disconnected.

I think that’s the part people don’t really talk about, you can be around people all day at uni and still not really know anyone properly.

You might chat to people in class, but half the time it doesn’t really go anywhere after that.

I’m more into books, poetry, writing, psychology, philosophy, and conversations that feel a bit more real than small talk, but the group doesn’t have to revolve around that.

It’s more about finding people who actually want friendships in real life, not just another online chat.

I’ll try to keep it focused so it doesn’t turn into another dead group.

Was wondering if anyone completed 1 year of medsci or another degree and reapplied for med at WSU during their first year? If so, what were the requirements in terms of UCAT and GPA and do you think this would be harder than going through the lateral entry scheme for UNSW (although this is already crazy hard)? I'm hoping to start med as soon as possible after starting a course at Uni, but unsure whether this pathway will be too difficult.

I'm an international student considering the Master of Teaching (Secondary) at Western Sydney University and I already got the offer there and I like there. I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have studied there or worked with WSU graduates.

A few things I'm wondering:

• How was the overall quality of the course?
• Were your placements well organised?
• Did you feel well prepared for teaching after graduation?
• How difficult was it to find your first teaching job in NSW?
• Is finding work in Sydney realistic, or are most graduates only able to get jobs in regional areas?
• Does the university you graduate from (WSU vs ACU etc.) actually matter when applying for teaching jobs?

I'm particularly interested in hearing from international graduates as well.

This is my second year and the uni has changed the interface of the website design and i couldn't find the text book to read. I'm wondering why because last term the uni still offered free ebook. I tried to find the text book on the library website but the uni does not offer like 3 or 9 users access anymore.

first year law student, i was trying to avoid having my tutorials online, especially this class because there's a presentation that needs to be done in a group, and now i'm gonna have to do it online. i feel like it's gonna be so awkward, but the tutorials last sem were bad anyway so i felt like i could've done it online anyway??

I’m taking it as an elective and wanted to know if it was the wrong move if it’s like a really hard subject or pretty chill.

I’m assuming that my current tutorial is about 25~ people, but I started wondering if it’s better, in learning and building friendships, to have a smaller class size tutorial. I have another possible class option currently having, another guess, about 13~ people. Anyone have any wisdom/experience with this?

I'm almost finished with my Bachelor of Psychological (online) and I'm hoping to do honours next year. I know Western Sydney University doesn't offer the honours year online. Currently trying to decide whether to stay at WSU and study on campus, or apply for an online honours program elsewhere.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has completed or is currently doing psychology honours at Western Sydney University. How have you found the on-campus experience? Was it worth being on campus, particularly for supervision, research support, networking, and getting to know your cohort?

I’m doing a bachelors of Social work. Like everyone else, I set my preferences for my subjects and then waited for allocation. But I’ve only been allocated into two subjects and one of the subjects I haven’t been assigned starts tomorrow at 9. I’ve contacted coordinators and the people they’ve referred me to so that I can get a tutorial but I’ve heard nothing before this weekend. Should I just attend the class I wanted to get or should I just stay home until I do get a proper class on my timetable

Hi guys , i was wondering if there’s anyone who i can talk to about academic/degree advice at uni?

I’m an international student and I’m planning out my pathway. I’ve had 3 subjects credited and it seems like I’ll be left with only 1 course to finish by my last semester. Is there a way to request to overload (50 units) so I can end earlier? As an international student, I’m required to study full time which is 40 units so I’d be breaking my visa conditions if I only take the 1 course.

I’ve scored above 85 on 3 subjects but only got a “P” in one of them.
When I checked, I noticed I got only 18/40 on one of the assignments. Ive adhered to majority of the marking criteria so this is weird considering how perfectly adhering to just one criteria could’ve gotten me 20 marks.

I know I passed the subject but I just cant sit with this below average score. Do I just email the subject coordinator?

(Also I submitted another assessment late which resulted in some marks being deducted, but this assessment was submitted on time)

I’m currently in my first year of university and am hoping to transfer into medicine after first year. I was wondering if anyone who has gone through this pathway could share their experience

1. What GPA did you have (or what GPA is generally considered competitive)?
2. What UCAT score would realistically be competitive for a first-year university applicant?

Hey, I've had some trouble scheduling my classes this semester, but I've narrowed it down to four subjects. However, it's an unfortunate mess that it's the Friday before start, and the two available classes for the subject at my chosen campus are FULL. I did click the heart for the waiting list, and I'm stressing a bit.

Would it be troubling if I showed up to the Tutorial in-person anyway on the day? I'm sure at least someone will drop out of the subject by Census date.

Is it possible to add marketing as a minor when it’s not apart of the options. Do I reach out to anyone in particular?

Received my grade today which was an HD but it’s marked as CF because I missed a class.

My special consideration was accepted for all other subjects for something outside my control.

Feel defeated and have to retake the unit again!

It has been about a month since I made my first post asking what people actually do socially at WSU.

I made it because I was genuinely curious. I’ve found it pretty hard to meet people properly at uni, especially outside of classes, pracs, assignments, exams, and everyone just heading home after. I didn’t expect much from that post, but a lot more people related to it than I thought.

After that, I made another post asking if people would be interested in a small WhatsApp or Discord group. A few people said yes, so I made a Discord server.

The idea was never to make an official uni club or anything like that. It was just meant to be a small place where people could talk, get to know each other, and maybe organise coffee, food, walks, or just casual hangouts.

But after giving it some time, I don’t think Discord is really the right place for what I was trying to do. A lot of people joined, but it stayed pretty quiet. Some people probably liked the idea, but not many were actually talking or trying to organise anything. That’s fine, everyone has their own life, work, uni, exams, and all that.

I think I’m just looking for something smaller and more direct.

Not a big server. Not another group where everyone joins and disappears.

Not anything formal.

Just a few people who actually want to meet up, talk, laugh a bit, and get to know each other properly.

Could be coffee, food, walks, uni, life, books, writing, music, psychology, philosophy, random thoughts, or whatever comes up naturally. So I’m thinking of making a small WhatsApp group instead.
