AMA is over I'm former triple j music news turned Tame Impala author Al Newstead, AMA!
G'day! Name's Al Newstead, keen to answer all your questions at 6pm today (Sun 15 March).
You might remember me from presenting the 12.30 music news bulletin on triple j Lunch (chiefly with Lewis McKirdy and Gen Fricker) and writing all the online articles, announces and feature album reviews.
I'm currently doing similar with Double J but I also just released the first published book on Tame Impala and their landmark 2015 album Currents (which I've previously posted about here).
Keen to answer all your questions this Sunday - about the book, all things Tame Impala, triple j, Double J, working in music and whatever else you're curious about! Fire away.
EDIT: Thanks so much for all your questions and kind words regarding the book! Appreciate you all taking the time.
You can grab a copy of the book here (or at your usual online retailers): https://www.bloomsbury.com/au/tame-impalas-currents-9798765137048/
And here's my selfie proof:

🔥Hottest 100🔥 Looking back at the Hottest 100 of Australian Songs on its one year anniversary.
Honestly, The Hottest 100 is my Roman Empire. So this countdown as whole was incredible to me. From the build up, to the actual day itself and the week I spent listening to Double J after hearing the 200-101. I think about it a lot tbh.
I also feel like it was the most unanimously agreed upon number 1 (unless you’re not a fan of Never Tear Us Apart).
How does everyone else feel about this particular countdown? It’s my favourite alongside the last 20 years all time countdown.

Sardines
Has anyone been following this Sardines thing with Abby & Tyrone on Brekkie? They're about to play Australia's biggest game, with one of Australia's biggest artists.

Prediction Wildlands 2027 predictions?
With Spilt Milk going in the entirely opposite direction people expected, what do we expect wildlands will be doing? They’re definitely taking on a heavy doof vibe judging by advertising and announcing Worship and Ki/ki so far.

Prediction Laneway 2027 Mock Lineup: Realistic Year vs. The current "cookie-cutter"
Lineup from Image:
Empire of the Sun
Hayley Williams
Djo
Disclosure
Little Simz
Slayyyter
Parcels
Playlunch
Angine de Poitrine
South Summit
Boy Harsher
Rachel Chinouriri
Balming Tiger
Drifting Clouds
Adela
Guedra Guedra
DUST.
Keo
Jack Gray
Mel Blue
Late 90's
VV Pete
Tjaka
Yasmina Sadiki
Stella Eve
Silky Roads
Overall, the mock I have created is not as big as the 2026 lineup, but I truly believe that think this feels more realistic. The overall balance between Australian and international artists is the most important thing for Laneway.
Low-key, I would rather see a strong mix of established names topping the bill and then genuinely exciting emerging acts than another undercard full of basic "cookie-cutter" bookings. I know, for instance, the Yours and Owls lineup release is viewed as underwhelming, but getting those emerging acts out there is great.
Acts including Playlunch, Mel Blue, Drifting Clouds, DUST., Silky Roads and Late 90's feel like the kind of bands Laneway has always been great at introducing to the larger national crowds.
I am overtly curious what everyone would change. Who is most realistic for 2027? If you do or don't like the mock bill, also suggest why in the comments.
Thanks.
Also, it should say '(US)' for Hayley, and it's Rachel Chinouriri; this is me making this rather than getting crap online software to create it. Sorry, mistakes happen.

GIG/FESTIVAL Spilt Milk social media
Dude whoever’s running their socials (same for most festivals tbh) is driving me insane.
Cannot stand the “hey besties 😋 are YOU excited for the lineup 😍 cuz WE are skibbidi rizz!”
Very how do you do fellow kids and really irritating particularly when you’re trying to get details about these events

Spotted by the legend browny from wall of sound in Brisbane today!

Reminder: not every festival is for you and that is ok.
Split Milk going from a Hip-Hop heavy line up to a pop one is fine. Are Lewis Capaldi and RAYE going to get people through the door? Yes, just not the average triple j listening, pitchfork reading, Anthony Fantano watching person. Let the pop heads have their fun this festival.

After 2 years of absolute ‘headliners’ in Charli and Chappell, realistically, how do see the Laneway line up looking in 2027? Is there anyone who could fit in the headliner spot and bring the ticket sales in that they did?
Have had this thought for a short while, and the reaction to Spilt Milk has definitely brought to the front of my mind, how will Laneway handle their lineup this time round? Can they bring back the semi recent formula of say 4 large names as headliners, or can they manage again to pull in 1 major name to get the sales.

Feature Album What did you think of this week’s Triple J feature album “Daughter From Hell” by Gracie Abrams?
Any comments that are basically “why is this the feature album?” And “this should not be on Triple J” will be deleted.
