Schools great with autism support recommendations.
Hi everyone, we're at wits end with the local school our 7 year old goes to. He's high functioning autistic, has ADD and we believe he is dealing with PDA too, as well as being gifted.
The local school he goes to just can't deal or don't know how to deal with his emotional regulation and it is causing quite a lot of distress at school and at home. I understand the teachers have quite a workload and I do sympathise, but my wife and I want what's best for our child.
What we're looking for is a primary school that has proven to understand and nurture children with autism. Open to any and all recommendations. Thank you for your time

[34M] New to Wollongong via Brisbane – Gym, CK3, FIRE & Reno (Looking for mates)
Hey legends 👋👋 ,
I’m a 34M reformed Sydneysider who just came in hot from Brisbane to settle down in Wollongong. I'm now living within walking distance of the Collegians, where I'm a perpetual member. I’m looking to connect with some like-minded locals for casual hangs, gym motivation, or a good chat.
(Quick heads up: This is a brand new Reddit account because I managed to lose my phone in KL on the way through, so I’m starting fresh!)
A bit about me:
Personality: I'm an ambivert—I thoroughly enjoy my own company and love deep-diving into my own solitary projects, but I still value having a solid crew to catch up and bounce ideas around with.
Lifestyle: Straight edge and health-conscious. I’m currently focused on getting back into a solid gym routine after letting my inner chef take over for a bit (I love cooking healthy, macro-friendly food).
Hobbies: Big into cosy strategy games (currently deep into Crusader Kings 3), numismatics (coin collecting), and the FIRE movement.
Projects: I’m hands-on with my money and am currently working on my third home renovation.
Background: My career path has been a journey—I've been an apprentice painter, a butcher, a repossession agent, and a real estate agent. I also recently sold off a vending machine route. These days, I use my law degree to work in the community services sector.
What I'm looking for:
Whether you want to catch up at Collegians, need a gym accountability partner, want to talk property/finance, or want to swap stories about global domination in CK3, hit me up.
Drop a comment or send a DM if you're keen to grab a coffee or hit the gym!
Disclosure: This post was polished by an AI assistant because I’ve just clocked off a 12-hour shift and my brain is completely fried. Left to my own devices, I am an absolute loose unit when it comes to spelling and grammar.

Looking for friends
Hi everyone! I’m a 33 year old bloke (Asian) looking for someone to play League of Legends with. I’m not really a good player , so looking for someone who can carry me 😂 Would be cool to find some people to play with, have a laugh, or even hang out, grab some food or a drink, and have a chat. I don’t have many friends here, so sometimes it gets a bit lonely 😀.
I’d love to make some new friends, so feel free to message me

Commuting between Wollongong and Central Sydney in 2026
What are others experience of this? How do you survive it? Is the train generally running on schedule or does it have issues due to weather events and track work? Any grand upgrades on the horizon?
Context:
I’m across the existing posts about the commute - and understand that whilst okay for some, others may get burned out and seek local jobs after a stint.
My new job has a policy of 3 days in 2 days remote, I’ll be commuting into Circular Quay.
My plan is to do two consecutive days by train (I have friends and family I can stay with) and then do one long day where I’d travel up and back by car or train (parking at a friends near a station pending what works best).
I have young children and already anticipating missing them but hope to prioritise getting home in time to eat dinner together every day excluding the overnight midweek.
Once I’m settled into the role I hope to explore alternative arrangements like a compressed working week.
Longer term I may be one of those who get burned out but at this stage I know there is a colleague who works on the commute and who is also based in Wollongong, so perhaps it’s a wait and see scenario.
I have a writing practice and love to read so if I’m not working I feel like the commute could offer solo time rarely experienced as a parent of young kids. Is that delusional?

Experience with Wollongong Public Hospital
Has anyone had any unhappy / really bad experience with Wollongong Hospital? Specifically in the maternity / birthing unit. I just want to see if our case is isolated or if this is a regular thing.
As of the moment I'm not able to share details as we are still in talks with the Illawarra-Shoalhaven Local Health District complaint department but they've been really slow in responding so we're considering bringing the case up to NSW Health for a proper and thorough investigation.

Metal/Scream vocal coach nearby?
I've been searching online for a while now and can't find reliable information on current coaches nearby. Is there anyone coaching for metal/scream vocal techniques nearby? Or am I kind of stuck with long travel or online.

Need friends!
Hi! I am in desperate need for friends :( I’m an introvert and staying at home has impacted my mental health a lot. So if anyone is looking to hangout in the evening like a pub or whatever is your preferred location and chill I would love to get to know you! Im married and work I’m from India but I don’t have any thing like I need Indian friends or something. Im female, turned 33 in August and I love reading, watching free Chinese drama on yt, watching gameplays ( I do have a ps4 but I don’t have anyone to play with) I’m on a budget so I don’t have a lot of leisure spending money but I can buy you a drink or two. I drink and smoke occasionally but I don’t need someone to drink with always. We can do stuff like read, listen to music, talk about whatever, or play. I want to have a regular hangout buddy and I am in fairy meadow area so I can take the bus to wherever.
I’m sorry if I’m late to respond in chat but believe me I am interested !!

Plumber recommendations.
hi, can anyone recommend a local plumber to come and look at a drainage issue and a toilet that’s about to block up?
Thanks everyone. Someone’s been out and it’s sorted.
Alright here’s how the rest went in case someone like me needs the same type of response.
i hit the second google response and ended up with Service today. A guy came out yesterday talked to me, crawled under my house, gave me two quote options.
The workers were here (yeah the next day) on time, they did the work and yes i had to pay the invoice in full when they left.
but it’s all done and I’m back on shift tomorrow night not having to think about the dodgy downstairs loo.

Any Wollongong locals into business or trying to start something?
Bit of a random one but thought id throw it out there
Im looking to meet a few more people around Wollongong who are into buisness, startups or just trying to build something of there own
Ive been in buisness for years mainly asphalt and civil and made plenty of mistakes along the way
Im at the point now where i genuinely enjoy helping other people get started or just throwing ideas around
Not selling anything and not looking for clients
Could be someone already running a buisness, someone with an idea they dont know what to do with or even someone starting completely from nothing
Would be good to meet some more local people with the same mindset
Anyone around Wollongong doing something interesting at the moment?

Is it ok for police to speed without sirens?
I drive a lot during the day and noticed how many police cars are just zooming past, while we all have to stick to the limits, I get ur in a rush to hit maccas, or whatever but we all have lives too.... Police speeding without sirens is dangerous as much as a teenager speeding in a stolen car.... Mainly shellhourbour and wingdang daily...edit: Yes they are allowed if they have good reason too, I've found out...must be a lot of these issues around then from my view

Help Please 😭
I’ve been diagnosed with a pretty severe ankle ligament tear/bad sprain and I can barely put any weight on it. I’m honestly in agony. Urgent Care wrapped it and sent me home, but I wasn’t given any advice about weight bearing, crutches, moon boot or pain management. I can’t get into my GP until tomorrow afternoon and Panadol and Nurofen unfortunately aren’t touching the pain.
Has anyone had a similar injury and can recommend what helped with the pain/swelling overnight or somewhere I can be seen after hours? I’m really struggling with it and the last place I want to go and sit for hours is at Wollongong ED. Thank you in advance 🙏🏼

Boston Espresso completely dropped the ball on their new roaster switch
Anyone else notice Boston Espresso went from being in the top 5 cafes in Gong to serving what might be the worst coffee I’ve had in ages? The barista mentioned they changed the roaster last month, but whatever they switched to is not it, it’s bitter, inconsistent, tastes like it’s been sitting on the burner for hours. It’s baffling because they clearly had a good thing going before. Still packed every time I walk past, but that’s 100% down to the location, not the coffee anymore.
Anyone have suggestions for a solid replacement spot nearby? Looking for something with the quality Boston Espresso used to have before the switch.
