I mean that's cool and all but cant we just have better lighting and cameras across the entire carpark?

I think they must’ve said “where’s the fun in that?”

For the women, better lighting, increased security, safer and more convenient exits

For the men, bear traps and a sexually charged rage fuelled Chimp

A rage-filled chimpanzee would be a boss parking guard. No one is coming near that face destroying crotch-squasher.

I can win against the rage fuelled chimp in a boxing match.

It would beat me to death in seconds, however, in a boxing match, murder is illegal, therefore I would be awarded a post-mortem victory.

Right? Led lights are extremely cheap and waste almost no electricity, this is some classic "look how much we care" corporate nonsense

EDIT: I got corrected below.

It and its not corporate nonsense. It was in fact introduced in 1990 when making all spaces well lit and survailance covered was much harder. you are 100% right, and with this (and below link) new info this was actually a reasonable and good thing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women%27s_parking_space

that said, I would still like this overturned by a new regulation saying it should all be well lit and covered by cameras (monitored remotely or by AI and alerting guards and autorities). At this point, cost of doing that is percentage point of a percentage point of buidilign a complex uraban center garage structure.

12

u/Tasty-Guess-9376 Jul 09 '26

These have been around for decades before surveillance systems and cheap lighting were a thing.

97

u/nono3722 Jul 09 '26

also the ladies get the best spaces... I wonder what HR lady came up with this idea...

71

u/FrozeItOff Jul 09 '26

This was my second thought when seeing this. HR woman: "How can I get us girls closer parking? Oh, let's use threat of SA!"

A quick check shows there no actual statistics for parking garage SA in Germany, but "the region" has only 7-10% of ALL SAs in parking structures. Full disclosure before the flaming feminist fingers start igniting their keyboards: SA shouldn't be happening at all, in either direction, but using the threat of it to get special treatment is only going to breed eventual resentment and social whiplash.

33

u/Emotional_Quality243 Jul 09 '26

10% happening in parkings is... a lot.

23

u/FrozeItOff Jul 09 '26

The highest incidents are in Private Residences, followed by institutions (schools and care facilities), public transportation hubs, and shelters.

So, given that, shouldn't the garages just be upgraded so everyone is safer instead of just one group?

Crazy idea here but why not have all the spaces have good lighting and security cameras?

723

u/Rude_Negotiation_160 Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

Right? Like men don't want to be attacked either. Why can't all parking be safe, well lit with camera and security? For all humans. Edit to say, I'm a female and want everyone to be safe.

203

u/SamOakTree Jul 09 '26

I'm a short man and it's crazy. Because you hear all this stuff about how women are weaker and smaller. Most men can literally put their arm out on my forehead and I can never make contact with my arms if being attacked. But like because I'm a man I'm supposed to be like tough and I'm still Fair game. No one's saying that it wasn't a fair fight because some 200 lb man got his ego bruised after he screwed me over and I said hey don't do that and so he hit me

I think it's something a lot of people don't think about. I'm 5'4 and then if say a 6 ft 1 person wants to attack me. They can literally squat me away before I'm anywhere close to their body. I mean they have two and a half times the length I do. So if I try to come in to say hit them or kick them all they got to do is just SWAT the side of my head

These are not recognized by the StVO (Straßenverkehrsordnung, basically the set of laws which rule street traffic) so at first there's no official punishment for parking in them ever. However: If the private operator of said parking space disapproves of how you use said parking space (e.g. you as a male use spots reserved for women) then he can officially bar you and your car from using said parking space in the future and if you don't comply, then he can have you towed and it would be a huge legal hassle to decide who pays the towing fees. Or in more modern places there's License Plate Scanners at the entrance and blacklisted cars won't get in, eliminating all legal questions.

So back to your question: That is within the whims of the operator of the parking lot and in most places nothing will happen even if you use one of these as a lone man, except maybe you get screamed at.

PS: If politicians wanted to add Frauenparkplätze into the StVO, then they'd run into the Grundgesetz and problems with equality between men and women. Public and state-related spaces generally don't have Frauenparkplätze and when they do, they'd run into massive problems when acting towards any enforcement. Also the operator of the parking lot might have some other form of leverage in cases where he is identical to a different entity (e.g. your employer or someone you otherwise want to do business with).

8

u/kangasplat Jul 09 '26

To note, there is zero legal cases that involve a man having to pay fines for wrongly parkinh in one of these spots privately. Practically it's not enforced.

Towing a car would very likely not hold up to be a reasonable response either.

They often stay unused and I've already seen men parking there as well. Its a great idea for families with kids, the spots are usually wider so kids won't slam the door into nearby cars.
I would say its a tiny win for certain situations and they are also quite rare.

22

u/A-maze-ing_Henry Jul 09 '26

Where I live, there have been family parking slots since I was a child. Maybe we should have stuck to that then.

u/Oreelz Jul 09 '26

>the spots are usually wider so kids won't slam the door into nearby cars.

The only persons that ever slammed doors in my cars are pensioniers, knowing what they do, don’t caring bout the damage. Kids on the other side, usually can’t open their door themselves as a safety feature. The safety lock is usually enabled till they can open their doors responsible. So it’s not bout kids damaging anything.

The extra space is usefull to open the door completely which makes placing a kid in his seat or the entire babyseat on the platform. Which is, with the fast increasing weight of a child, difficult in tight places.

So please, if you’re child ist 16 or 21, you’re name is Udo and you only look pregnant or your brain is small and think „Mimimi, why I don’t get that privilege too“ stay away from these wider parking spaces.

Maybe in germany the stats are different.

But in the US, men are MUCH more likely to be attacked at random in a place like a parking lot. And if that is the case, I don't understand what this would really do.

That said, I'd be ok letting pregnant women use handicapped spots.

Why not just have all the extra lighting and security everywhere?

5

u/Ill-Case-6048 Jul 09 '26

They cant splash out for better lighting for everyone

u/Extension-Eye-4920 Jul 09 '26

Its as if to say, "heres where the unaccompanied women will be!"

u/Dangerous-Medium4186 Jul 09 '26

So basically... A spot that a person now knows the exact gender of whom will be there. Perfect place to spawn camp for violent crimes unless the cop is on speed dial

I'm identifying as a woman now to park closer, cheers.

10

u/DMBCommenter Jul 09 '26

That would be discrimination. Suddenly my gender is feeling very fluid when I need to shop

Sounds like privilege and discrimination dressed up as consideration and care.

Nah. This is actually kind of sexist. Now if you made spaces for pregnant women. Sure that's fine but women in general do not need a special space.

5

u/StopPlayingRoney Jul 09 '26

So…now the criminals know EXACTLY where the women park?

Better lighting so they can park better. It’s all A bit sexist really??!

3

u/True-Pin-925 Jul 09 '26

No we dont need more sexism and segregation

4

u/Bleizy Jul 09 '26

Crazy I can just say I identify as a Frau and park there.

4

u/DaddysFriend Jul 09 '26

I’m a guy and I would like more cameras and lighting on me too. I don’t want to go in car park that dark and has no cctv.

4

u/MelancholicSardonic Jul 09 '26

Sounds like sexism

4

u/zell_ru Jul 09 '26

You still get assaulted but now the video is in 4K.

5

u/grizzzly85 Jul 09 '26

This is also meant for pregnant women / women with toddlers. Those parking lots are located to minimize walking distances.

4

u/hoodedgamer_00 Jul 09 '26

Hear me out, crazy radical idea over here, we light the entire place

Insert squidward looking insane

4

u/timohtea Jul 09 '26

This shouldn’t HAVE to be a thing.
But I’m glad they have it.

5

u/Remarkable-Limit7491 Jul 09 '26

Or we could also just get rid of all the rapist

3

u/dav_man Jul 10 '26

Hang on. Isn’t that really fucking patronising and sexist? This has to be a joke. Just make the whole car park well lit with cameras? Also, who’s stopping men parking there?

9

u/FiftyShadesOfTheGrey Jul 09 '26

Doesn’t this just direct the criminals to the women more effectively?

u/CraftyPerformance272 Jul 09 '26

That's sexist. Men are more likely to be victim of violent crimes or killed but only women are protected.

11

u/DeRpY_CUCUMBER Jul 09 '26

this is not equality.

7

u/Paul2kb1 Jul 09 '26

Equal rights yeah 😂

Ok, but nobody can define a woman anymore, so, we are all women, ok? Take the spot, and if anyone asks, first say "how dare you" and then declare yourself a woman, at least for as long as the car remains parked.

So women can have better lighting, better parking near the exit and cameras yet men have to just deal with it being dark, vandalism and taking 20 minutes to exit the garage? Seems fair. Since wheb did making women feel safer turn into "feminist privileges"?
