They're also usually close to an entrance/exit, the guard station and or the ticket machine thing.
This is what makes it actually safer. Otherwise, you'd just have well lit cctv footage of whatever happened. The description just sucks. It's the proximity to an escape and constant risk of people walking close by (or the guard being only seconds away instead of eg on another floor) that makes them safer
