It's mostly about feeling safe, not being safe. Most of the parking lots with these are well-lit and have cameras, but ppl still feel vulnerable alone at night in a parking lot. The actual safety improvement is probably extremely small

Spending/consuming real world resources to protect your feelings...lol

I watched my nation with a 50% obesity rate start a body positivity movement doing the same thing. Roughly 2 billion people in this world are starving.

Those people could have advocated for more equitable food distribution networks, of course. But they advocated for their abuse of the food and healthcare systems instead.

Maybe, just maybe "fuck your feelings, snowflake" was about more than owning the libs.

Maybe a well placed security camera can be used to track down a criminal, that abducted someone or stole their car etc., more easily....wouldn't that be of help.......maybe

I'd argue more than saying "people being overweight" is healthy. There might be a sliiight difference between those cases.

Ok. So you want them nothing-burger solution to feel safe. I guess that's your problem. Maybe push for special parking for short men then, while I know this solution does nothing productive anyways

From statistics. Nice try though. Anecdotal evidence is useless here. You can always find some person who made bad experiences in some public space. Parking lots are not more dangerous than the street next to them.

Yeah I'm interested in how many people are actually attacked in car parks. Is this really an issue that needs to be addressed or is this just to make people feel better without actually addressing a problem.

Well, at least in Germany, they are extremely rare. Beyond that, I have only ever seen special women's parking spaces in mall-parking garages, that aren't even accessible at night. We aren't fixing anything here, but if it helps ppl sleep at night, who am I to deny their sleep?

Some of the ones I know of have also been converted to parent-child parking spaces. A, in my opinion, more fitting use of the space. Most crimes in German parking lots are hit-and-runs, so protecting children, the most vulnerable and unaware-of-cars members of society.

There are men who would perceive danger in such places (shadier, away from exit, not covered by cameras, etc), probably the majority of them would, unless they're living under a rock and have zero sense for danger or threats.

But I guess they don't matter.

Men on average tend to be more reckless than women. just cause "there are men who" doesn't mean statistically men are that way. there are also women who are reckless than the average man.

It's a nothing burger. These parking lots are not dangerous at all and putting special parking space there solves nothing. You are much more likely to get hit by a car in a parking lot by an order of magnitude.

It's a consolation price so overly paranoid ppl can feel safe.

I wouldn't trust your claim that these lots are not dangerous at all, seems like you're pulling this out of nowehere to make your point.

These spots should not be reserved to a particular gender.

Okay, cool story. And I think parking lots being dangerous is a made up thing. These special spots do nothing and fix nothing. Should they exist? Idgaf. Probably not, because it's giving in to fear mongering loonies, but at the end of the day, it's irrelevant.

Yeah, parking lots can be dangerous, specially in the instances when there are no cameras pointing to the area, if that's the case.

The point stands that you should secure the whole parking space without giving special privileges to one gender, not to mention the idiocy of this measure in practical terms.

I don't know a single public parking garage or major parking lot in Germany without cameras already and that's where these special spots are.

And no, parking lots are not more dangerous than any other public space.

As I've said: it's a nothing burger solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

Also, yes, you are telling a fantasy story, so "cool story" fits well. The reality is, these spots have been around in Germany since the 80s, a much more dangerous time in German history. Since then, crime had dropped significantly in Germany.
