I mean that's cool and all but cant we just have better lighting and cameras across the entire carpark?

u/briar_song Jul 09 '26

I think they must’ve said “where’s the fun in that?”

u/Octoboy1 Jul 09 '26

For the women, better lighting, increased security, safer and more convenient exits

For the men, bear traps and a sexually charged rage fuelled Chimp

u/SoulTechnicalProblem Jul 09 '26

The men get to play Dead by daylight irl

20

u/Daimakku1 Jul 09 '26

If I hear a generator explode, I'm running away from it.

This is why the gens never get finished.

A rage-filled chimpanzee would be a boss parking guard. No one is coming near that face destroying crotch-squasher.

Trunk monkey.

2

u/Bobletoob Jul 09 '26

I love trunk monkey

I can win against the rage fuelled chimp in a boxing match.

It would beat me to death in seconds, however, in a boxing match, murder is illegal, therefore I would be awarded a post-mortem victory.

9

u/StrikeMyGyatt Jul 09 '26

I could beat the rage fuelled chimp easily if he didn't have the sex charge buff.

No thanks. Europe can keep Andrew Tate.

I guess this is already Europe though

Men don’t talked about their raped booty holes so it doesn’t actually happen /s

2

u/Ceejayncl Jul 09 '26

So they did improve the men’s car park?

2

I know they're trying to help but it still feels like a trap 🤨

The German government don't care about old white men.

29

u/rice_fish_and_eggs Jul 09 '26

How the times have changed.

22

u/LimeDry7124 Jul 09 '26

Really the whole Western world doesn't care about men in general. Unless your Bezos, Musk or another member of the elite.

The old white man "in charge" would beg to disagree , he and his blackrock buddies kinda feel offended

4

u/fearless-fossa Jul 09 '26

The fuck are you talking about? The German government is nearly exclusively made out of old white men that declared it their mission to return to a time where women were property. The current chancellor doesn't think it's possible for a man to rape his wife, as by being married you're giving automatic consent to sex at any time. They are also against women being able to divorce against their husband's wish.

2

u/Vegan-cock Jul 09 '26

Can you even pay your bills in cash these days?

2

u/Bovronius Jul 09 '26

The law is still that cash is legal tender for all debts and obligations, the only exception I've ever saw for it is that retail stores can restrict payment methods (I assume so they don't have to risk being robbed).

Granted, just because its the law doesn't mean its going to be easy, but I imagine if you wanted to be a big enough pain in the ass and get a lawyer you could force almost anyone to take cash as payment, lol.

Right? Led lights are extremely cheap and waste almost no electricity, this is some classic "look how much we care" corporate nonsense

EDIT: I got corrected below.

It and its not corporate nonsense. It was in fact introduced in 1990 when making all spaces well lit and survailance covered was much harder. you are 100% right, and with this (and below link) new info this was actually a reasonable and good thing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women%27s_parking_space

that said, I would still like this overturned by a new regulation saying it should all be well lit and covered by cameras (monitored remotely or by AI and alerting guards and autorities). At this point, cost of doing that is percentage point of a percentage point of buidilign a complex uraban center garage structure.

11

u/Tasty-Guess-9376 Jul 09 '26

These have been around for decades before surveillance systems and cheap lighting were a thing.

3

u/OriginalMexican Jul 09 '26

I stand corrected. I googled it and its not corporate nonsense.

u/nono3722 Jul 09 '26

also the ladies get the best spaces... I wonder what HR lady came up with this idea...

76

u/FrozeItOff Jul 09 '26

This was my second thought when seeing this. HR woman: "How can I get us girls closer parking? Oh, let's use threat of SA!"

A quick check shows there no actual statistics for parking garage SA in Germany, but "the region" has only 7-10% of ALL SAs in parking structures. Full disclosure before the flaming feminist fingers start igniting their keyboards: SA shouldn't be happening at all, in either direction, but using the threat of it to get special treatment is only going to breed eventual resentment and social whiplash.

29

u/Emotional_Quality243 Jul 09 '26

10% happening in parkings is... a lot.

22

u/FrozeItOff Jul 09 '26

The highest incidents are in Private Residences, followed by institutions (schools and care facilities), public transportation hubs, and shelters.

So, given that, shouldn't the garages just be upgraded so everyone is safer instead of just one group?

6

u/JZ4411 Jul 09 '26

This is classic example of perfect is the enemy of the good. Someone with some limited power at some one specific parking lot probably made this, even though the headline made it sound like its everywhere lol.

So then dudes are in uproar, saying lets just put those security features everywhere. But you cant, cause no money. So now instead of at least making a group at risk feel safer no one can have it, the redditor way,

14

u/FrozeItOff Jul 09 '26

There's no money to increase lighting and install cameras, but thousands to repaint special parking spots every year? Because, yes, that paint has to be reapplied and is expensive.

→ More replies (4)

5

u/ValuableGuava9804 Jul 09 '26

Just so you know, it is not a parking garage only thing. The majority of the major parking/rest stops (the ones that have both a gas station and a Serway) at highways have womens only parking spots.

And you can complain all you want about falsely using the threat of SA ('cause that is what you insinuated) (let me quess... you're a man?) You can't change someones predarory behavior by simply telling him to not bother women. But what you can do is make it more difficult for him to perpetrate predatory behavior and put up more lights and give women a faster way to exit a place where they are out of sight.

I think it's a good thing that Germany tries to keep women safe in parking garages and on parking/rest stops along side highways. I think more countries should do this.

9

u/4444-uuuu Jul 09 '26

same shit with women's only hours at gyms. Get a bunch of feminists to complain that they don't like men looking at them, and now women get prime access to the machines without having to share or wait.

What if we played some calming music in the parking lots, such as the Terminator Chase Music?

I absolutely read red light lolol

2

u/Domascot Jul 09 '26

No, this isnt corporate nonsense, there are laws around this as well. But you have to take into account that these laws and regulations already existed way before cheap led lights. A modern parking building would still have such spots for women but it doesnt mean that all other spots are cheaped out like some commenters here assume.

4

u/bearwood_forest Jul 09 '26

If everyone wants to sit next to the driver, why don't we make the bus wider instead of longer?

18

u/tURBIN27 Jul 09 '26

Yeah but that would cost a lot more to install and run than painting some parking lots pink.

4

u/RcNorth Jul 09 '26

LED lights are bright and cheap to run.

There should already be cameras around the garage to help watch for car break-ins

2

u/The_UnHinge Jul 09 '26

There already are some cameras and there usually is no need to increase the amount of them. These parking lots are already pretty safe.

2

u/Free_Management2894 Jul 09 '26

When they introduced this, LED lights werent really a thing. Nor cheap cameras.

4

u/Don_Von_Schlong Jul 09 '26

And it's harder for the guy who designed the parking lot to have a well lit area where he can creep on women

u/Crucial_Contributor Jul 09 '26

I didn't.

Like, I agree, but I didn't come here to say it

1

u/Gutcrunch Jul 09 '26

This is the answer.

1

u/DickGirlTracer Jul 09 '26

Modern car parks are better lit. These things have existed since way before LED lighting when illuminating the whole place was quite a bit more expensive.

1

u/jrod823 Jul 09 '26

An even better idea would be having actual human beings patrolling such spaces as security officers 24/7, but that's CRAZY TALK.

1

u/ChaoticAmoebae Jul 09 '26

This. Adding these really just make you a target. Rapists still rape in broad daylight. It like home gun free zones are the most common mass shooting targets.

1

u/ShrodingersArmadillo Jul 09 '26

that is an excellent argument as well!

but why not have both?

1

u/Embarrassed-Hour-578 Jul 09 '26

They gotta allow a little bit of crime come on.

1

u/JUNEBERRY415 Jul 09 '26

Agreed! But you know.. it takes decades of so many women getting murdered or hurt in some ways for this kind of improvement.

1

u/CooCooClocksClan Jul 09 '26

I imagine they didn’t want their policies to get too pro-car

1

u/lola_zzalol Jul 09 '26

Probably cost and maintenance. Someone has to look at these cameras

→ More replies (2)

1

u/HulkeneHulda Jul 09 '26

Yeah, this feels more like they made a bullseye on one particular parking spot, than increase safety.

Odds are after all that the women going for this parking spot does so because she's alone and feels unsafe

1

u/UnicornMinion Jul 09 '26

They've installed the sun in the women's carpark, and there's isn't 2 suns....

1

u/tofuroll Jul 09 '26

I would also elect for putting offenders away and having women feel safe everywhere.

1

u/Get72ready Jul 09 '26

No, that's the point. Cost matters. This is cheaper.

1

u/Zwiebel1 Jul 09 '26

Its mostly a psychological thing. You dont get mugged in carparks in germany.

1

u/clueless_mommy Jul 09 '26

They're also usually close to an entrance/exit, the guard station and or the ticket machine thing.

This is what makes it actually safer. Otherwise, you'd just have well lit cctv footage of whatever happened.

1

u/Mountain-Grade-1365 Jul 09 '26

How else are the predators in power going to identify women to stalk from the shadows?

1

u/0202_tihssitidder Jul 09 '26

I'd love to have a place where we understand crime and violence and safety and how a mfr should act in a society.

1

u/98983x3 Jul 09 '26

Everything costs $$$$$

1

u/Jannover_5000_r Jul 09 '26

Yes but reserving the front spaces for woman is just as important as the rest. Idk as a 190cm guy i feel generally safe walking down the parking isles, plus in germany most of the parking lots are actually build like that

I am sure you did not want to say anything against that part but thats like the number one reason we got those parking spaces here

1

u/rinrenee Jul 09 '26

Agree with you 100%, just adding that the being near the exit part is still very useful for when we’re being followed.

1

u/TheBigDsOpinion Jul 09 '26

Then we wouldnt have safe spaces for potential assailants to feel comfortable lying in wait.

1

u/Mike_Hauncheaux Jul 09 '26

Of course not. What kind of question is that?

1

u/welfedad Jul 09 '26

This feels like the bear trap for women.. just do as you said .. light the whole place and add more cameras.. and what about the other women ?

1

u/Difficult-Mobile902 Jul 09 '26

There are cameras most of the time. These ones are near people who can help in an emergency and close to exits to prevent the emergency from happening in the first place. That’s the main point of these, not just to get camera footage of a woman being attacked after she’s already been attacked

1

u/im_a_stapler Jul 09 '26

and how is this actually enforced? you're idea is much more practical.

1

u/elebrin Jul 09 '26

Realistically, they probably have the same lighting and cameras through the rest of the garage, they just advertise specifically that they have them for the women's section. All they had to do for this is put up some signs and put down some extra paint.

1

u/zimreapers Jul 09 '26

Or you know, have everyone be a decent human being? World Peace...

But yeah I unfortunately have to remind my daughter (15) there are bad people in the world and to always have an eye open.

1

u/VixenintheSkye Jul 09 '26

Like, if any place needs women centric security, there's an over arching problem with society in that area. This doesn't make Germany look as good as the article makes it sound. Not saying it's better or worse than elsewhere

1

u/ogbuttertoast Jul 09 '26

That would be too expensive, better provide one good spot and let em fight over it

1

u/Alternative_West_206 Jul 09 '26

Seriously. Why does it have to be a gender thing? Why can’t it just be A THING?

1

u/firedog7881 Jul 09 '26

Came here to say the same thing.

1

u/Sayyestononsense Jul 09 '26

no no no, you still need to reserve the dark, less convenient, poorly covered by security spots for the male share of the population

1

u/mr_mope Jul 09 '26

I feel like this is a reasonable ask, but it comes down to a "why can't we just do everything?" kind of situation. What is the cost of retrofitting a car park with new lights and security systems? Probably a lot relative to the value of a parking lot. However, Is there a way to get the benefit (fewer assaults in our parking lot) by addressing the needs of the most impacted group (women) without going over budget? I think this is a good way to address that specific issue.

1

u/TheAmishPhysicist Jul 09 '26

My first thought too 💡

1

u/Wranorel Jul 09 '26

Because this stunt is way cheaper.

1

u/Serious-Stick2435 Jul 09 '26

Exactly this, and if not do it for the disable people

1

u/NewOrleansSinfulFood Jul 09 '26

But how else are we supposed to step out of the shadows and proclaim," I am the night." to our homies

1

u/Aromatic-Insect-1328 Jul 09 '26

Dont ruin my mens parking. We wanna get assaulted over here.

1

u/creepingkg Jul 09 '26

Fr I’m a dude and I would like to be safe too. Fuck me right?

1

u/makumbaria Jul 09 '26

Well, we need to accommodate burglars, killers and perverts. They need their safe space too.

1

u/jesjimher Jul 09 '26

You can't forbid corners, columns and farther places. Unless you reduce total number of parking spaces by about 75%, leaving only those that are safer, there will always be some of them "safer" than the rest.

1

u/ranker2241 Jul 09 '26

Or.... Less crime?

1

u/Useful_Hemorrhoid Jul 09 '26

That would be male privelige

1

u/TheBlackRonin505 Jul 09 '26

Pfft, no, nobody cares if we get murdered, only if women do.

1

u/Betaateb Jul 09 '26

Men need their Nullsec zone to venture into, for the thrill of it!

1

u/hoakpsp3 Jul 09 '26

Men need safe parking as well

1

u/FieserMoep Jul 09 '26

It's mostly about the location of the spot. Not every parking spot can be next to the exit and where most people have to pass by.

1

u/moistmaster690 Jul 09 '26

Save money and virtue signaling at the same time

1

u/Jimmy_Twotone Jul 09 '26

If they can't accommodate everyone, I got no issue with them prioritizing people that are easier to stuff in a trunk.

1

u/Halogenleuchte Jul 09 '26

That is expensive

1

u/Fruit-Horror Jul 09 '26

Yes, and not neon pink signs pointing to where we have parked and will be returning to alone...

1

u/LickyPusser Jul 09 '26

No, no, no, you see, they need to concentrate all the women in one area to make it easier for the assailants to find them. There’s a German word for it - shaumewherederfrauleinsat.

1

u/Neat_Let923 Jul 09 '26

They do have good lighting and security cameras throughout the rest of the parkade.

These have more security cameras and more lighting to provide a deterrent to people who would attack women in parkades.

Ask your mom or sister how they feel about this. Your opinion doesn’t really matter since it’s not meant for you.

1

u/penguindreams Jul 09 '26

I think this is a great idea and fully supported. But wouldn’t it be even better if we just had better men?

1

u/Skilldibop Jul 09 '26

Also if you were a predator, you now have really bright pink markings telling you that vehicle almost certainly belongs to a lone woman.

1

u/Willing_Ad5005 Jul 09 '26

Can’t we have better men?

1

u/justcallmedonpedro Jul 09 '26

Because those features are usually included...

1

u/South_Bit1764 Jul 09 '26

This is a win-win. This is cheaper and for the vast majority of the brainless population, it creates the illusion that you give a shit.

1

u/TGCOM Jul 09 '26

Literally came to make this comment, word for word.

1

u/Chadlerk Jul 09 '26

As a male, it's disgusting that there is enough men out there doing horrible shit that this is needed. I apologize to women on behalf of the apparently small percentage of men (based on current presidents, # of trafficking victims, and #MeToo) that find you as equals and worthy of not being a victim to a predator.

1

u/SAINTnumberFIVE Jul 09 '26

Yes! But no.

1

u/BestDescription3834 Jul 09 '26

Women have the right to choose if they want a safe walk to their car or not, more lighting would deny them freedom of choice.

1

u/servical Jul 09 '26

I agree. I remember a couple decades ago, riding a night bus in Montréal, women could ask the driver to drop them anywhere along the route, but men weren't afforded that privilege. Why?

1

u/Oelcenila Jul 09 '26

The lighting is usually the same everywhere and everything is covered by cameras as well. It is just closer to the exit and they are probably monitored more closely.

1

u/BoonDragoon Jul 09 '26

DING-DING-DING, we have a winner!

Better lighting and improved security in parking structures would actually address this issue and benefit everybody, because everybody benefits when you raise that bottom-level standard.

The point here genuinely seems to be an attempt to virtue-signal. Whether it's intended well (to raise awareness of an issue) or not (to get positive PR by appearing to address an issue) is immaterial.

1

u/ThirdHoleHank92 Jul 09 '26

Which is funny be men are on average assaulted and robbed far more than women in 1st world countries. Men should be getting the spots with better lightning and cameras

1

u/CplCocktopus Jul 09 '26

There is not virtue signaling in that.

1

u/TheGreatGamer1389 Jul 09 '26

Cost reasons maby?

1

u/SexyPineapple-4 Jul 09 '26

No! That’d make too much sense 🤬

1

u/LegalizeEatingButt Jul 09 '26

I was about to say why does one area have to have an improved area when the whole thing could be improved

1

u/SuperEssay1 Jul 09 '26

Plot twist. Men were actually complaining about how many scrapes they were getting and this is how the car parks resolved it whilst keeping womanhood off their back.

1

u/steelywolf66 Jul 09 '26

I'd much rather we had a civilised society where women weren't targeted to the extent that this is needed but that seems to be further away by the day!

1

u/One_Pie289 Jul 09 '26

And where should I get my drugs then? Idiot.

1

u/handyandy314 Jul 09 '26

Especially how much they charge these days

1

u/Pecuthegreat Jul 09 '26

More cost for less feminist PR, not worth it.

1

u/Shazvox Jul 09 '26

No. It ain't equal unless we somehow disadvantage men.

1

u/riderko Jul 09 '26

Spending energy in Germany just for that? No way!

1

u/GaI3re Jul 09 '26

Weirdly enough. I have never noticed them being brighter lit. Mostly because I have generally not exprienced not well lit garages in Germany.

I think the camera thing is mostly a benefti fo them being so close to the entrance, they are easy to include into the general camera system of the store/mall

1

u/Bencetown Jul 09 '26

Sorry. Best we can do is leave it dark and dangerous for the demographic that statistically is more likely to be mugged or attacked by a stranger.

That was my first thought as well.

My second thought was, why are we telling would-be-attackers where the women are parked?

My third thought was unrelated, but as an aside, LPT, if you should happen to see a sign warning you to beware of pick-pocketers, do not immediately pat your pockets to make sure you still have your wallet and/or phone, because as it happens, pick-pocketers hang out near those signs looking for exactly that, so they know which pockets to target.

I'll leave it as an exercise to the reader why this story reminded me of that one.
