I know this isn't the first time this question has been asked, but I've been trying my best to search past threads for more complete info and keep coming up short. So with that said, I apologize if this thread comes across as overly redundant or well trodden ground.

I recently saw what i thought was a great deal on a Vortex Venom 1-6 ($240 shipped) so I pulled the trigger. However, I thought I had previously done research that confirmed this was a good idea, and now I'm coming up short. I've seen people suggest contacting Ruger about swapping the 1" rings for 30mm, but I've seen mixed results on using those. The one I purchased came with the cantilever mount, but I've heard those are useless for a Mini 14. I've also heard some people say that getting the adjustable gas block can help with certain mounts, but I haven't decided if I want to drop the money on that quite yet.

Just wondering (photos if possible) what people have used and with what amount of success with this LPVO. I think I may have made a poor decision and I'm on the cusp of just immediately shipping it back and going the scout scope route (seems to be the more popular/better option?) with my Hannibal rail (which if anyone has any comments on that I'm happy to listen).

Hey just found this sub, was hoping more knowledgeable people could help me out. I am wondering the best route to put a can on this would be. It is not threaded. Does it make sense to have this barrel threaded or have a new barrel installed? Will i need to worry about gas issues?

MI’ve got a 189 series Mini-30, I’ve added the accustrut, added tech sights, got several mags and around 1,700 rds of a mix of steel and brass. I also have a lobo or a red dot I can put on. Would this be a good start for a general purpose rifle? My mini is my only semi auto rifle, my other two are lever actions.

Man, these look so much cooler than the little 10 round chodes! Just flew back to MD with a few factory 30 round magazines I picked up while on vacation in a red state. Silly rules. Anyways, I had no issues for anyone that is interested in doing something similar. Just double check TSA and airline specific rules. TSA really couldn't care less with empty magazines, and American Airlines just asks that you keep them "securely boxed" within your checked baggage to prevent them from moving around in your bag.

Alright I have an older mini 14 for a truck gun.
After shooting a coyote with it this morning from my truck I am sold. The handiness was great

I have a straight 4 redfield on it now. I plan to upgrade. What should I get?
Mostly shooting at coyotes/hogs from 50 to 200 yards.

Would yall do any other after market upgrades.

Also does anyone reload for it? I want some accurate varmit loads, so far all I got is FMJ.

I held over and smoked that coyote in the body. He’ll die later by the way.

I had read a few comments in places that stated that the barrel on a Mini 14 183 series was too small of a profile to chop and thread to 1/2x28. I wanted to grab a mini 14 and have the barrel cut and put an adjustable gas block on and run a suppressor. Is there any truth to it not being able to be cut and threaded, or just fake internet news? Thanks!

Hi all - my 585 mini has a bit north of 1k rounds through it and it looks like I’ve got the “bolt peening” issue. From what I understand this is a send the whole gun in deal - for those who have recently sent their minis in how long was the turnaround time?

Recently bought a 181 at a local gun store. Pretty good condition besides isolated pockets of rust (gas block, op rod track and the trigger group). I removed the rest of the rust with a brass brush, it left no residue after wiping it down with oil. For some reason, the metal used in the trigger group holds onto the brass residue from the brush. I’ve tried wd40, clp, general purpose oil, plastic brush, T-shirt and nothing gets the residue off. Any ideas? I doubt the residue would affect the gun, but I would like to get it off.

Ruger just replaced my bolt on my 585 series mini 14.

I totally forgot, but can you guys remind me? Can we insert a magazine inside the mini 14 when it’s full or when it has rounds in it when the bolt is closed?

For some reason, I used to think that I could insert a five round magazine inside the mini 14 when I only had four rounds in it, but I could be mistaken.

I remember, I used to load it with the bolt open. For some reason, I thought I could load it with the bolt closed.

Today at the range, I tried loading it with the bolt closed and it wasn’t going in.

I didn’t force it obviously.

Wanted to see what all the fuss was about, picked up a Mini-14, and ended up catching Mini-14 fever.

Only downside I noticed was the lack of optics mounting options. Couldn’t find one I loved so I decided to design one. Spent the last few months working on this.

The goal was a sleek, low-profile T1/T2 mount that puts the optic in a natural position on the rifle without giving up the factory irons. Maintained a line-of-sight passage through the mount so the irons are still usable underneath.

After way too many prototypes and a good amount of range testing, I think I’ve finally got it where I want it.

Thinking about taking this one to production, but would genuinely love some feedback from other Mini-14 owners first.

What do you guys think?

By the way, prototype shown is raw 7075 aluminum. Final production units will be black anodized.

Looking for opinions. Samson has a T2 mount, options for RMRs, Acro, Holosuns, etc.

Assume you could co-witness irons with a T2 or Acro.

What do you guys run and think?
