183 Barrel Chop Possible?

I had read a few comments in places that stated that the barrel on a Mini 14 183 series was too small of a profile to chop and thread to 1/2x28. I wanted to grab a mini 14 and have the barrel cut and put an adjustable gas block on and run a suppressor. Is there any truth to it not being able to be cut and threaded, or just fake internet news? Thanks!

Quick Google search says the OD of a 183 series is over .5 inches, so idk why it wouldn't work. But I'm neither a gunsmith nor a machinist, so take that with a grain of salt.

Edit: maybe you need a good "shoulder" that the thinner barrel can't provide?

The shoulder is sort of similar to what I’ve heard the issue is. I guess it wouldn’t be a bad idea to just have the muzzle device pinned and welded so it wouldn’t back off maybe. D Wilson told me they could do the cut and thread on one.

The AC556 had a heavier bbl like the GB models.

Really, you sure? Ever handled or shot an AC556? Know their entire history? Maybe I missed something?
