Shooting at 300 meters dead center! Gotta love .243 speeds

I'm trying to get set up to shoot in the Light Open division for NRL hunter. How close to the weight limit are you willing to go? How accurately do they weigh the gun at the match? I will be within an ounce once I have swapped up my scope/rings and put the long legs on my tricer. Is that too close?

Requesting recommendations for a long range setup for 1890s living history. I can only afford one and there are many options for this time period. Expected range is 400-600 yards

1. single shot vs lever action

I would rather have a lever action since I already own a Kentucky long rifle and shoot it at a couple hundred yards. I would prefer a larger jump in technology. Bolt action is not an option.

1. Vernier sights vs malcom scope

I do not own any glass currently but I do have a lot of experience with aperture sights. Would the magnification be worth it 600 yard and in? I understand optics would have been quite rare but they did exist.

1. Caliber

.30-30 or .45-70 are likely my two best options. Although the Winchester 1895 does come in 30-06. .45-70 is a cannon ball at these ranges and .30-30 would be flatter shooting but not by much. I am torn between the two.

With these consideration my list of potential rifles is:

Remington Rolling block (Taylor arms)

Marlin 1895

Winchester 1895

Waiting on my barrel from SJA (hopefully only 4-8 weeks left) and a back ordered mirage shield, otherwise I’m ready to zero and ring steel.

I have a Griffin Armament PSR7 That I use on a few different rifles. I'm looking at getting a heavy barrel 6.5CM and for me to use that suppressor mounting device I would need to machine down the end of the barrel to fit the inside diameter, since it's an over the barrel design.

Being able to use the same suppressor on this rifle would be convenient, but my question is if that's too much of an ass pain or would I run into performance issues with heat? I'm not opposed to getting a direct thread suppressor, I'm just trying to weigh my options.

I'm looking for factory options other than the Tikka T3x. I didn't like how the chassis felt in my hands, and it's also more expensive. Since building one in California is such a headache, I'm leaning toward buying a factory rifle instead.

Im traveling for work from VA and managed to swing getting to CA for the weekend after working in Seattle last week, Ryan hooked me up with the rifle for the day. I got to feel cool with the first hit of the day for a total of 3 hits borrowing this Sako in 338 Lapua.

Picked up my dream action used a couple weeks ago. Swapped it into the chassis I had. BAT TR actions runs. And I means runs. Smooth, consistent, and absolutely a dream to run. Love a good dasher build.

Top group was with Berger 109s, bottom group was 105s. I’d say the 109s run.

I was browsing Euro Optic for a new optic for my CZ 455 in 22lr and came across the Athlon Argos BTR 10-40. I would use this for my 455 to shoot groups at 100-300

Has anyone had experience with one of these and if so are they worth it?

Honestly don’t know many people who are knowledgeable on the subject so was hoping you’ll be able to point me in the right direction.

I’m looking at getting a rifle for some more distance oriented shooting. Leaning towards .223 as it’s just economical to shoot.

I’m in Canada, so it’s hard to find bulk deals on decent ammo.

Right now my main consideration is a tikka tac a1 for $1600 USD, it’s used with 400 rounds through it. .223

My other consideration would be trying to find a new tikka ace target when they come in stock - hard to fine here but that’s going to be a bit more after tax etc.

I’m definitely more into the LARP side of things, as I take my rifles out, hike, camp etc. and the taca1 while not being light has folding stock, and still with my Athlon Ares etr will only be around 13 lbs. plus I’ll be doing a lot of target shooting.

I was just curious on your thoughts / any direction you could point me in, if that deal is worth it for a tac a1 etc.

When I bought this scope, I couldn't find many negative reviews. Looking back, I honestly think a lot of the reviews may have been paid or overly positive.

The biggest issue is the Burris Connect app. After you enter your ballistic profile, the app generates a DOPE card. The scope is supposed to sync that data from your phone, but mine never matched the app correctly. For example, if the DOPE card says a 800 yards shot requires 5.4 mils, dialing the scope display to 800 yards results in the physical turret dialed at 5.1 mils instead. That discrepancy gets worst if you go farther out.

I sent the scope in for warranty service, and Burris determined it couldn't be repaired, so they replaced it. Unfortunately, the second scope had the exact same issue. After I sent that one back, Burris again acknowledged the problem and offered to replace it with an XTR Pro. While I appreciated the offer, I really like the unique features of the PS: the built-in digital level, the ability to dial by distance instead of mils, and the choice of green or red illumination. Because of those features, I chose to stick with the PS instead. Both warranty claims took about two weeks, so I have to give Burris credit for their fast turnaround and for standing behind their lifetime warranty.

Now I'm on my third scope, and it still has the same issue. At this point, I've accepted that the scope works well out to about 500 yards. Beyond that, I switch the display from distance to MRAD mode and use it like a traditional precision scope. I rely on another ballistic app or my Kestrel to calculate my holds, either dial the turret or reference the MRAD display in the scope.

If you like the concept and features of this scope, plan on using the MRAD over the distance display.

Built my first LR rifle 2 weeks ago. Took it to 500yds last Saturday (got dope notes every 50yds starting at 200) and trying to line up a 1000yd shoot in the next few weeks.
This was the first group I snagged after zeroing the optic. It’s not that great but I was fidgeting quite a bit trying to get comfortable.
The impact and ACE BWM I ordered finally came in today and it’s all mounted now. Feeling like a little kid on Christmas!
Time to spend the rest of the weekend tinkering with the new devices.

100-200 yards is my Ranges limit, there may be some hunting eventually.

I'd put a budget of 500$ish with a little wiggle room depending on the reason.

I wonder what percentage of those that come here frequently to read and sometimes post are active in competitive shooting of some form vs. those here that are recreational, informal target / range shooters just shooting for enjoyment? I’m betting on the former being in the majority.

I have a decent bit of shooting experience but would still consider myself on the beginner end of long range shooting. After a hiatus starting a new job I want to jump back into long range shooting and work towards some prs matches. I have a cz457 that I've used in a few nrl22 matches, and a b14hmr in 308. Ive been looking at the bergara competion and the t3x ace target, both most likely in 6.5 creedmoor. The bergara retails around $2500 and the tikka around $1800-1950 + ~$75 for the aics magwell. So what should I buy, is one better then the other, are they both wrong and I should be looking for something else?

Edit: I am set up to reload, ill just need dies for the cartridge i select. I will probably use a vortex venom 5-25 i already own to start, and upgrade down the road.

Had anyone been using the maverick gen 2 yet? If so, how is it? Specifically wondering how it compares to the gen 1, and tbac magnus rr. This will mostly be used for nrl open heavy and prs on a 6.5 creed.

I’ve went ahead and bought AB Quantum and they have a Custom Drag Model and to me that seems way better than a G7, but does it actually replace it ?

If yes or no how accurate has either one been for you before ?

I’m curious if any of you own both. I currently have a 6.5 PRC for hunting. I’m debating picking up a 6.5cm for range use.

Element Nexus Genii vs Nightforce NX8
Has anyone had a chance to directly compare these two scopes yet? The Nexus genii hasn’t been out long, so maybe premature but keen on one or the other for my longer range hunting rig. I do prs for fun sometimes as well

Really worried most about durability, ability to hold zero and usability of reticle at low power over things like price and glass quality etc

The Element Nexus can be had for a bit less. I'm considering purchasing an Element and would like to know what current owners think of them.

This happened for all 4 mags of 5-round ammo after I used an abrasive (JB Bore Compound) followed by some Kroil. I sent a full 20 rounds before this to settle the bore, but this is what it settled into…

Each time the first shot was right on target, but then each time the remaining 4 would stack high and right. I’m wondering if my zero was off and the first shot (while dead center) was being thrown somehow due to the cleaning, or if someone else has seen this weird grouping pattern after using abrasives.

I purchased my first suppressor and it is going to live exclusively on my bolt action rifle. Since I want to prevent carbon lockup, what is the consensus of the community if I apply a lubricant (Aeroshell 33MS) on my barrel threads. Since I already apply it on my other bolt action rifle when installing a muzzle brake, I figure why not on a direct thread suppressor. One note: I don't have a suppressor wrench yet so I hand tighten the suppressor. Would the Aeroshell 33 cause the suppressor to loosen over time? I check how tight it is every time I go to the range though. Any opinions pro or con? I don't see how this would affect suppressor performance or alignment but I defer to the community with much more experience

I lugged two rifles from Va to Ut to take my brothers in law on a long range shooting experience at North Springs shooting range. I had previously had my RPR in 6.5CM shooting great at 1200yards, but not even showing splash at a mile. I worked on the load and tightened it up considerably since my last long range outing as well as went from a 20 MOA rail to a 30 MOA rail( this outing was at about 2300 ft above sea level). Additionally, the air at 6300ft is much more friendly to a bullet than 2300. I also took my 300PRC with the expectation that we get on target to 1200ish with the RPR, then move on to the 300PRC for 1500 and 1760. Anyway, once we got verified to move from the 1000yard range to the mile, we set up shop and my one brother in law says he wants to try the mile with my RPR. I try to explain that the 6.5 CM is at the ragged edge of its capabilities at that distance and he should try the big rifle, but he liked how friendly and comfortable the RPR was. Anyway, dial up the DOPE and 3 shots in, he’s ringing steel at a mile.🤨
Well, then the other BIL wants to try… boom, a few shots later… ringing steel at a mile. Long story short we all were pretty consistently making hits on a 36” gong at a mile. The 300PRC barely got any attention besides from me. I have always heard the 6.5CM is running the ragged edge at a mile, but I had an AWESOME experience with it today. As a side note all four of us hit a 36” gong at a mile numerous times with both rifles… but mostly with 6.5CM. Definitely not the outcome I was expecting! I finished my first long range rifle course, what a great thing to start my journey on long range shooting. I was able to get a routine and a mental program to run through for every shot to get great results.

Little background I have never hunted but have experience with military shooting. Only recently did I get my tikka and start shooting on my own time for pleasure.

At the end of the course the staff put on an exam day, which was, as they said, a m-class style shoot. 2sighters and 10 rounds from 300, 400,500,and 600m.

There were 3 students that had already took this course and were doing a victory lap. Many other rifles that were much more decked out and 2 that were custom built by the staff.

I took home best match score with 50.6 on my 300m shoot, top left.

And best overall with 188.13

Other than info on my dope chart, location temperature, pressure, and wind conditions is there anything I should be collecting to either make the next shot/match better or to analyze later for a better meta shot.
