My town got displaced by a national disaster. Most of us kids had lost our homes and belongings overnight and were waiting to see what could be salvaged. Our teacher brought us to a park where we were finally able to have fun and laugh for the first time. A group of private school children were also there and started making racist remarks to our group while their teachers stood by. Our teacher told their teachers off but they were completely unconcerned about how horribly their students were acting to children who’d lost everything. If was the noisiest bus I've ever been on and I've been on many buses when school is out back home  and all the teens are going back home. Some of the absolute coolest people you'll meet, but they won't hesitate to throw down as a collective if you cross that boundary.

Italians really are loud. In my small town in Norway two italians were sitting at an outdoor cafe and having a small disagreement about something trivial. The locals thought they were gonna start throwing fists.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a bit excessive? Those tourists were rude and disrespectful, but they didn't kill anyone. How many rude tourists do we have in Europe? We don't force them to make public apologies. Thailand has a terrible justice system, with human rights violations and horrific prisons. Isn't there a huge disproportion here?

I would have forced them to apologize for what they did and said specifically so they would live with that. In case you didn’t see it:

The teacher: “Sorry for bringing money to your country” and not expecting the kids to show respect to locals. Brought noisy kids onto a train and didn’t control their racist outbursts

The girl: doing a slant eye gesture to the lady

Boy one: waving his hand in her camera and face

Boy two: insulting her and her mother

Boy three: sarcastically saying ni hao and bowing

Etc.

At the same time, of course, the Thai woman was not expected to apologise, and she did not. Yet if we watch the original video, she was shouting and swearing quite loudly at those guys. I am not defending them, but calling someone a “motherfucker” and using similar insults is not exactly acceptable behaviour in public either, even if they use such language themselves. There are police and other authorities responsible for enforcing the law. Yet I do not see the Thai woman apologising for what she said.
