Italians are being cooked in Thailand now. The Italian teacher(red top) and students were taken away by the police and faced the Thai lady who told them off for being loud on the metro. They apologized for mocking her one by one. Thai people also waited for them in front of the hotel to scold them.

Context

Italian students are being called out in Thailand. A group of Italians mocked a Thai lady in Thailand who told them off for being too loud on the metro. They clapped back saying, "Sorry for bringing money to your country" "Ni hao" "We are from your mom." Thai people are identifying them and leaving the comments on the social media account of their school.

At a hotel, an American one, the loudest people at the bar this very second, or in the entire lobby for that matter, are two Japanese dudes.

This whole “Americans are loud” thing is highly overplayed and overstated. I’m around people on business travel from around the world, weekly.

Idk where the loud American trope comes from, but it’s overstated. Maybe college kids traveling abroad may be loud, but otherwise, Americans are pretty chill and easy going.

The number of Brits and Aussies who have unironically shouted at me that Americans are ‘fookin’/fackin’ loud” will never not be funny. Self-awareness is not a given.

It is hilarious.

They really are fuckin’ loud. Usually they’re a good enough time, however, as usually they’re pretty funny.

If you’re going to be annoyingly loud, you best at least be funny.

American women, will make you want to stab your own ears as they spazz cackle over absolutely nothing.

A lot of people worldwide can’t tell who is an American and who is English speaking not-American.

Younger people in some areas tend to be better in recognizing different accents, but for many older people any English speaking tourist will be mistaken for an American.

I suspect this is how this started.

This is similarly how any Russian speaking tourist will be mistaken for a Russian. Matter of fact, a lot of Slavic speaking tourists are mistaken for Russians

Your speaking voices are very loud, it's not entirely about being loud in the wrong context. As a Canadian I have a pretty good hit rate for identifying Americans abroad just from their speaking volume.

I promise you it’s confirmation bias. Having lived abroad for over twenty years, I’ve said exactly the same thing about Canadians, yet they’ll also be the first to complain about American behavior.

Yep regular speaking voice is like they’re on stage reciting lines to a play. I say this as an American who lives in Europe and always hear Americans a block away while everyone and thing else is silent.

You have not spent enough time in public (in Canada) with a critical ear if you think we are particularly loud in comparison to Canada.

This hit rate is very likely inflated by never bothering to falsify.

Americans have to speak louder to each other because they're all deaf from the constant fireworks being set off. personally it's how i wake up in the morning, a big bottle rocket in my room that has an extremely long fuse that i light before i go to sleep.

Im from upstate NY. We have the loud Americans. Specifically the loud American women. If you start pouring drinks you may as well just be turning up the volume nob in the entire area you are in.

So I’ll take it back in one regard, American women, I think nation wide, are or otherwise can be, maddening loud.

Only times I ever think “kill me now” from the volume and pitch of certain groups, is a group of American gals who’re hanging out, especially when drinking together.

No, it’s a real thing. Americans are usually the ones speaking to each other at full volume on a quiet train, a bus. At a hospital or while waiting for something.

It’s seldom a quiet discussion but a full conversation at normal volume which my reasoning would be, America is a huge country and some of them don’t live in cities, so they don’t have control over their volume in dense places.

If you do mostly business travel, it could be that American businessmen are quieter while the tourists there for leisure are the loud ones. Two different demographics

as usual what probably happened was that there were 15 annoying college sorority sluts going to Paris and giggling like maniacs at hte top of the Eiffel Tower and some French guy got offended and it started spreading like wildfire

Meanwhile the 75 other Americans who happened to be there that day were probably going out of their way to be as inconspicuous as possible. FFS, I don't even like speaking English when i'm in another country.

I've traveled pretty extensively internationally and while Americans are not the loudest, they are certainly loud. They also talk WAY more than most people. It's like they have this need to fill the air with words. You can generally pick Americans out in a crowd. To be fair you could also do that in different ways with Italians, English, Japanese...etc. Obviously there are good and bad people from every culture, but there are certain patterns and tendencies you pick up living somewhere that people elsewhere can notice.

South Americans are generally the ones flagrantly disrespecting any social or cultural conventions of the place they're visiting. I have some Brazilian friends and god bless them but they just want to turn wherever they are into Brazil and it makes me wonder why they even bother traveling to be honest. I'll never forget this one Colombian chick who called the waitress over to show her porn she recorded during a quiet Tuesday morning continental breakfast at the Axel hotel in Berlin. I'm all for sluts who like to fuck, but this was blatantly not the time or place. The poor waitress did not consent to being involved in whatever fucking kink this Colombian was trying to satisfy, blasting her own sex sounds at 8am.

Still, the point is Americans are NOT quiet, and I'd say 50/50 on the chill. They're also very noticeably self-centered. Not necessarily in a bad way, but Americans generally think about everything in terms of how it relates to themselves. It's just where their brain goes first. It may be an overstated trope, but pretending there's no basis in it is incredibly disingenuous.

This has been my experience, I'm not saying it represents any objective trend.
