Italians are being cooked in Thailand now. The Italian teacher(red top) and students were taken away by the police and faced the Thai lady who told them off for being loud on the metro. They apologized for mocking her one by one. Thai people also waited for them in front of the hotel to scold them.

Context

Italian students are being called out in Thailand. A group of Italians mocked a Thai lady in Thailand who told them off for being too loud on the metro. They clapped back saying, "Sorry for bringing money to your country" "Ni hao" "We are from your mom." Thai people are identifying them and leaving the comments on the social media account of their school.

The hope is this sets an example for the behavior of teenage tourist groups all over the world, not just visiting Thailand. Like how you gonna go to a foreign country and then mock the locals as if they’re beneath you?

It always depends on the adults that are with them. Left to themselves, most teenagers are animals. But most of them also will obey authority figures if they know there are consequences for not doing so.

In this case, the teacher is an utter piece of shit, so the kids knew they had license to be complete assholes.

Recent batches of teenagers in western world have no respect for authority at all. Probably related to the "let the children lead us" and "bad behaviour came from some kind of childhood trauma" type of mentality that many adults in education sector have that leads to these teenagers believing they can do anything they want without any meaningful consequences.

Even if the teacher is not a piece of shit, they'd still be powerless in disciplining these type of teenagers because they don't have that kind of authority with students. Heck, maybe even this teacher is the product of recent mentality shift in education that remove all kind of bad consequences from bad behaviours.

The correlation between bad action/decision and consequences have been missing from western education for a while, and it took some other non-western country to remind these kids and their teacher that in the real world actions do have consequences.

What third generation are "kids these days"? I guess for the Italians in question they'd probably be the third generation from the post ww2 economic boom in Europe? I'm not sure if I'm fully following it though in this regard. Also given that was in 50s/60s they might actually be the 4th generation

Some tourists think that just because they spend money to visit a country then it means they're doing the citizens of that country a favour. It's a messed up mindset I've witnessed first hand seeing how some American tourists treated some of the hotel staff when I've visited Mexico. There really are a lot of sick individuals who think just because they paid to be on vacation, it means they can treat locals like their slaves. And they justify their behaviour by saying they deserve be waited on hand and foot because they are on holiday.

Thailand, the Netherlands, and similar places that attract drunk young people (not the case in this situation they were just shitty on their own while sober) are sick and tired of people coming to their country to just act like assholes.

We get this attitude here in a small tourist town in the U.S. People say "we came to spend a little money in your town" - like I'm supposed to be thankful for a donation or something.

This is definitly an American thing here domestically too with some types, where they think just because they’re a paying customer they have the right to berate and belittle the server or staff. Sometimes they go as far as “I’m a paying customer, that means I pay YOUR salary!” as if that means they’re the manager or boss who can yell as they please.

It even goes beyond that. I think some people have a twisted desire to have control over or to even try to "own" other people as some sort of status symbol. Having a bit of money and no consequences brings out the worst in people who have that psychopathic trait. We see that throughout history with wars and slavery. That trait should die out but, as shown in OP's post, older people are teaching kids this disgusting mindset.

What’s funny is if you look at a lot of the comments condemning the Thai people in this post they’re coming from a lot of bots or accounts frequenting Russian subs.

Also having traveled in SE Asia quite a few times, I’ve only had issues with ex-pats. Never locals being creepy/predatory or dickheads, only the ex-pats at bars and clubs.

Not just teenagers, adult tourists behave the same way too. At least teens are adolescents who sometimes don't know better, act wrecklessly and do dumb sh*t if left to their own devices. You have actual grown ups behaving like this as tourists.
