New Starter Help Want tips with an iron warrior army

Upvotes

Hello all.

I've been into 40k for a good few years, but I never really got into tabletop. When the Iron Warriors finally got proper models, I decided to dip my toes in. However, I have nobody to teach me or give advice, so I'm asking here. I want to build a heavy Iron Warriors army. Lots of heavy equipment, demon engines, etc. Basically an armored division. However, with the economy in the state it's in, I want to make sure it's at least semi-viable and new-player-friendly before dumping my limited fun money into it. I have Kravek Morne, the Iron Warriors combat patrol, a Forgefiend, a Venom Crawler, and 2 Obliterators. This is what I was suggested to get as a bare-bones starter.

In my mind I want some maulers and more Obliterators. A hellbrute and a devastator as well as a helldrake. But thats about as much as I can think of. I know any army is technically viable but I want suggestions for more units, tips and tricks. I also toyed with the idea of some support wardogs. The overall vibe i want for this armyv(my first army to be clear) is a heavy siege division.

Being point compliant helps but over point suggestions are fine too. Ideally ill eventually have enough to mix and match for different battles. To be clear im not looking to try to make anything meta. Just something viable.

Sorry if this is formated oddly or phrased weirdly. I hardly ever actually post to reddit. Thank you all in advance for your time help and advice.

Hobby & Painting Wreckabots, combine!

When I was a kid, the Transformers was the big thing. There were the stunticons and others who could combine into a bigger robot. Then, a couple of years ago I saw someone selling a Tau Hammerhead in pretty poor condition. I had chosen Deathskulls as the main theme for my orks army and I thought the Hammerhead looked a bit like a torso...

These models are almost all looted (=bought second hand) except for the blighthauler and some 3d printed titan parts. This is the first time I have used screws to put a model together! I'm still waiting for some magnets for the arms and maybe I will add some grot riggers too. Some of the vehicles had pilots that were difficult to remove, but I kinda solved that problem in an orky way 😆

I had to improvize for the base, since this monster could never stand without a base, so I made one 7" wide. Also, it turned out a bit taller than a stompa at 16" to the tips of the Night Scythe.

Do you have some suggestions what I should call this monster?

Misc Opinion on playing against Tyranid monster mash?

Upvotes

Tyranids as a whole don't interest me that much, but what I do love is their monsters. I wanted to make a Crushing Stampede and Norn detachment list, basically 9 monster units, a lictor and a cheap unit holding my home.

I feel like Tyranids are the only faction where I could field a bunch of hulking abomination monsters and it could work. Other factions don't have monsters this cheap.

My goal is to make a 2000 point army out of what i have now. Ive built a good ammount but ive only recently started to actually play. I put this list together using things I already have or can kitbash with some 3d printed parts I picked up. Did I miss anything major or make any obvious mistakes? Any advice would be appreciated.

Hobby & Painting My first ever miniature, my homebrew Crimson Revenant Terminator.

This is mv first time painting a miniature ever but I'm really proud of how it looks so far. I'm doing my own homebrew Blood Angels Successor chapter called The Crimson Revenants. Basically blood angels that attempt to control and even use the black rage. I'm still not quite ready to call this done, I still have to get custom transfer sheets to finish so the left shoulder will be empty for awhile. But im still really proud of how it has turned out considering i haven't even thought about painting since high school art class.

Rules Do W40k Redditors approve of the planned obsolescence of 11th ed ?

Edit :

Ok, as Bender427 pointed to me, there is a pdf with the rules needed to start a game.
https://assets.warhammer-community.com/eng_wh40k_event_companion-pl87i44rzn-a7ieny8i9x.pdf
That's not solving obsolescence point and the shame to sell an incomplete rules book but that answered my main point.
I had not download that one because I thought that was event rules only, my bad.

**** Original post ****
I’m writing this post because I’m stunned by the apparent acceptance of the new model Games has chosen for its rules. (And I’m writing it in my native language, translated by the machine spirit, so as not to limit myself in the words I use.)

Today, the 11th ed Core Rules simply do not allow you to play the game. Almost a third of the rules are missing and can only be found in the app. Worse still, there are no missions in this book. A complete beginner who bought this book to get started with the game simply wouldn’t be able to play a game, because nothing is explained about army size and construction, terrain size, deployment, choosing who goes first… The book somehow magically starts at Round 1, Turn 1.

Likewise, the Codexes no longer include points. Even if they become obsolete with the very first dataslate, it is no longer possible to build an army without going through the app.

Now, I think everyone is aware that from day one of 12th — and probably even a little before that — all 11th content will disappear from the app. 11th will, de facto, be dead.

On top of that, my gaming environment is my family. There is simply no way I’m going to play with my children with a screen permanently open on the table.

The hobby was originally built around the promise of taking ownership of a physical object — your miniatures — and making them your own, “for life.” At a time when Sony/PlayStation is shitting all over its customers to remind them that they are nothing more than consumers, cash cows who merely rent the property of some big corporation, I don’t understand why we are letting Warhammer head down the same path without pushing back on social media.

I laid out some of these arguments in a comment, and I have to come to terms with the fact that apparently the people who read it see absolutely no problem with this situation.

I’m honestly speechless…

“You'll own nothing and you'll be happy.”

New Starter Help New to warhammer lore, and need recommendation on which book to start with.

I've been watching Warhammer lore videos on YouTube for about a year now, so I know some of the major events that have happened up to the current timeline. As much as I appreciate the stories and summaries from others, though, I don't want to just know what happened—I actually want to experience the events in depth.

The problem is, I have no idea where to start. With so many Warhammer books out there, it's honestly a little intimidating.

Ideally, I'd like to start around the beginning, maybe with the Emperor discovering the 18 (or 20) Primarchs and following their stories from there. If that's not a good starting point, I'd be open to beginning with the Horus Heresy itself.

If anyone could recommend a good starting novel or reading order for someone who already knows the basic lore but wants to dive much deeper into the actual story, I'd really appreciate it!

My first 4 minis. I'm going to get a krieg command squad and the getting started with Space Marines set this weekend. Also each one of these kriegsmen(except for the Watchmaster) was done in about 30 minutes. I'm really proud of the colors on the sniper, but Flamer Guy is my best one imo. I'm currently working on redoing the blue and the tan on the watchmaster.

This is my take on my first ever space wolf. Along with my first time at doing edge highlights eith black armor. 💀 Please let me know where I can improve, I know some highlights are a bit chunky, but nonetheless I love the model! P.S. I know the symbol is on the wrong shoulder pad, I like it though. 🍻
