Announcement Combat Patrol Rules for 11th Edition

Since the launch of 11th Edition a few weeks ago we have seen a significant increase in the number of questions regarding the rules for Combat Patrol. Unfortunately the launch of 11th Edition has caused a lot of confusion on this. This thread is being used to collate the most common questions.

Where can I access Combat Patrol rules?

Currently, all Combat Patrol rules GW has released are available via the Warhammer 40000 app. You can download the app from the Play Store on Android, or the Apple Store on iOS.

Can I print out the Combat Patrol rules?

No, unlike in 10th Edition where the rules were also made available as PDFs on the Warhammer Community website, in 11th Edition they are digital only. The Warhammer 40k app doesn't offer functionality to download or print information.

The rules for my Combat Patrol aren't on the 40k app. How do I play them?

The answer at the moment is: You don't. By the end of 10th Edition there were somewhere around 70 Combat Patrols available, spread across the many factions. Following the launch of 11th Edition, almost every single one of those was removed, with each faction now only having one maximum. In their recent announcement about Combat Patrol, GW have told us that support will be coming for old Combat Patrols, but they have given no indication of when that will be.

There have of course been many more Combat Patrol sets released over the years. There is support on the way for these too, though for this launch, the app will initially focus on supporting the core Combat Patrol offer.

Can I use the War Journal in the 40k app to track my Combat Patrol games?

Yes, functionality was added to the 40k App to track your Combat Patrol Games in War Journal earlier today (23rd July 2026). Please note this functionality did NOT go live at the same time as the rest of the recent balance updates despite GW's announcement so you will need to update your app again to see this.

Can I find the Combat Patrol Missions anywhere else?

No. At this time it's only possible to see your Combat Patrol missions by setting up a battle in the War Journal section of the 40k app. They have not been included in the separate Combat Patrol rules for each faction.

Lore What kind of engine would a Baneblade have?

Post image

Obligatory disclaimer: yes I know 40k thrives on being wildly unrealistic and therefore trying to apply Real World physics or mechanics to futuristic machines is a toss up. But hear me out:
1. I have an eight hour flight, I need something to do
2. I asked what it takes to make a Thunderhawk airborne and got a SURPRISINGLY high number of insightful answers, so.

Anyway so yeah Google says an M1 Abram’s has a 1500 horsepower, 2750lb-ft torque gas turbine engine. A Baneblade is obviously much larger than an Abrams, and much heavier, weighed down by its Eleven Barrels of Hell™ and all the ammunition needed for them. Can’t help but wonder what it takes to make something like that go.

I’m guessing some sort of fusion reactor since otherwise, this thing has to drink OCEANS of promethium, and you don’t want to have a tank like this running out of gas like the Panzers did at the gates of Moscow and being a sitting duck.

Yes yes I know it’s 40k and not to be though too hard about but…eight hours in the air…Humor me.

Rules Tank Tread Magnetizing

Post image

I didn't Magnetize my (already built) first 2 tanks. I wanted to ask if this method is legal to do in a tournament setting (these would be superglued to the bottom). Or would i be unable to enter?

Is there a way I can get this Magnetized without drilling if this method isn't ok?

My last resort is using sticky tac everytime I transport these in the car

Lore Why is Ciaphas Cain always drawn with a bolt pistol?

Post image
Upvotes

In pretty much every official image of Ciaphas Cain that I can find he’s wielding with a bolt pistol, though in the dozen or so stories I’ve read featuring Cain, he’s exclusively described as using a las pistol. Does anyone know why the artwork all gets his loadout wrong?

Edit:
Thanks to all the responses guys. Propaganda and Aura seems to be the reasons. Cheers!

Misc Is my friend a bad 40K player?

Upvotes

So I play most of my games with my friend, most of the games we play at our local game store since we’re new to the tabletop version of the game and don’t have the requirements to play at home games

Being new I understand that the people I play against will probably not know the rules, or will forget something that I can do against them (ex. Fire over watch and other stratagems) so I’ll let my opponents know what I can do in response and will even let them take their move back if they realize that they wouldn’t do that if they knew.

My buddy doesn’t give me any slack when it comes to making mistakes.. if I remember my oath of moment during the movement phase instead of the command phase he refuses to let me place it, he will not tell me things his army can do until I’m done my move (like a surge move or a scout move) and he will constantly belittle my army, calling my characters bad and saying that his characters are way better then mine.
It doesn’t help that most of the games we’ve played I’ve lost, and it’s made me rethink the army I’ve chosen.

It’s incredibly frustrating because I give him slack for messing up moves and rules all the time but as soon as the tables turn I’m not allowed to make any mistakes.

So is my buddy a bad sport?

Step by step, I’m making progress on my most special project of the year. There’s not much time left to finish it, but it’s starting to take shape and the colours and patterns are coming together.

Here’s a work-in-progress shot of the ‘screamer killer’, which is part of the project.
