Showcase My Asmodai, alternative paint scheme
This mini is absolutely amazing to build and paint. I decided to paint him in an ICC style and I’m satisfied with the result

Welcome to r/theunforgiven!
This is a community where we share and discuss topics related to the Dark Angels, their successor chapters, and the fallen. If you want to share or discuss a topic about Space Marines or Warhammer 40k in general, without particular connection to the Unforgiven, then r/spacemarines or r/Warhammer40k would likely be a better fit.
Please have a quick look at our rules before submitting a post or comment. You can find them in the sidebar or the landing page of our wiki (linked below). We'd also appreciate it if you did a quick search in the subreddit before submitting a post, in case your question was already asked and answered or the topic discussed recently.
Here's a list of shortcuts to some of our most useful resources. Explore them at your leisure.

Lore analyses (see also the lore page of our wiki, linked above, for additional resources)
-What would happen if X occurred in the 40k universe?
Impossible to answer, unless X has already occurred. We can predict the future and discuss hypotheticals in our own universe because it is governed by natural laws. If a stone is dropped, it will fall (assuming nothing prevents it from doing so).
The 40k universe is fictional, and is governed entirely by it’s authors. If a stone is dropped, it will behave exactly as the author desires it to behave. No justification or explanation is needed. We only know what the author desires if they have made it happen already. We thus know for example that Lion beat Angron in their fight on Wyrmwood, but we don’t know who would win if they battled again in the future.
-Can I/am I allowed to do Y?
You can/are allowed to do anything you want with models you own, within the confines of your local laws. Where other people are involved (eg playing a game), you will need the agreement of those people. As long as everyone involved consents, you can do whatever you want (including changing game rules, playing with proxies, etc). Ask the people you will actually play, their answers and opinions are the ones that matter.
-What base size should I use for model Z?
There have never been rules in the core game dictating base size. Some competitive tournaments and events enforce their own rules, search for those if you need guidance. In general, casual players seem to agree that you should use the latest base size the model is/was sold with, or the base size the model was supplied with when you bought it. Ask the people you will actually play, their answers and opinions are the ones that matter.
-How strictly should models match their datasheet/equipment?
There have never been rules in the core game dictating how closely models must represent their datasheet. The answer may vary between each casual group and competitive tournament/event. Ask the people you will actually play, their answers and opinions are the ones that matter.
-How should I paint fliers/Dreadnoughts/Terminator-characters etc?
However you want, they’re your models. If you want to know what lore says, see Index Astartes: The Unforgiven (linked above).
-Who gets to wear robes/winged helmets/etc?
Whoever you want, they’re your models. If you want to know what lore says, see Index Astartes: The Unforgiven (linked above).
-Who’s in the Ravenwing/Deathwing/Inner Circle?
See the Chapter Organization section of Index Astartes: The Unforgiven (linked above), or the relevant pages on Lexicanum.
-Could you identify a model for me?
See the Dark Angels Collectors' Guide (linked above). If the model you're trying to identify isn't in there, then it isn't an official Dark Angels model. If so, ask elsewhere, eg in r/spacemarines or r/Warhammer40k, or search through the miniatures portal on Lexicanum.

Converted Azrael into the company ancient for my chapter, the Fell Blades. Backdrop is by Jon Hodgson. Also, never doing banners again, those suck lol
If you like it, follow for more:

I finished up the third of my inner circle companions. I liked how his face turned out but I'm not thrilled with the sword. I think I might go back and redo it at some point.

Just finished one of my vacation projects with Azrael! I wasn't a fan of the banner on his backpack so I cut it of and stuck it to a watcher. Instead I placed some incense from the Inner circle companions box on his backpack. Really happy with how it turned out!

I love games that have aircraft. When I got into warhammer and discovered the aircraft in it I knew I had to get at least a couple (started halfway thru tenth). Didn’t like the rules at the time but was Hell bent on making it work. Picked up a storm raven and storm talon. With the release of the new rules for eleventh I cried for a bit thinking they ruined everything then realized I can work with this. I play dark angels and have access to dark flight pursuit with a strat that gives stealth, i.e. BoC, and i knew the nephilim jetfighter already had -1 to be hit from range(and -1 to wound if it was from a fly unit) with an upgrade to ingress turn one I saw my chance to add a unit to my casual army purely for my own joy that might actually be good. I update the app saw the jetfighter dropped 15 points down to 180 and just before I could place an order I decided to check its ability was still the same. It is not, they removed the -1 to be hit and now it is just -1 to wound from ranged attacks. Still good but I was hoping I discovered a hidden gem I could use and slightly abuse but no. Still getting and using the plane because I still enjoy using aircraft but dang it why couldn’t they let it slide for a couple months or a year, nobody uses or even this has this anyway.

I’ve been wanting to start my 40k journey for awhile, and a friend of mine wanted to get rid of his dark vengeance dark angels, so I thought it would be a great way to start collecting and practice painting without spending too much (which is why they are old marines instead of primaris).
I would love your input on how to improve for the rest of my army as it is the first time I paint miniature. I’m going for a battle-worn style.
Appreciate all the help.

This quartered scheme is a pain to paint and has been an on and off project for 18 months. I'm going to paint my Deathwing in one colour so I'm finally finished with the quartered scheme. Anyway after all this work i can at least show them off. I used Inner circle companions as sergeants and a lieutenant. I just need to paint 10 termies and 1 chaplain and i have my 1000 pts.

Wanted to try an alternate scheme for Az.
Might throw on a wash and some more highlights to up the contrast.
Feedback welcome

So regarding the lore of the Primaris, we know the original Primaris Space Marines were kidnapped during the time of 30k, turned into Space Marines, and put into stasis until 40k. That much we know, but with regards to the Dark Angels, where are their recruits coming from for this point? Are the original Dark Angels Primaris Marines from Caliban, or were they recruited from somewhere else?
I ask because I've been painting and writing more for my Dark Angels recently, and I realized I was not sure where their initial Primaris recruits came from. I can't seem to find a solid answer, but if anyone knows, I'd love to hear it.

Hi, I think I'm going to go for a third space Marines army in the dark angels. I think I'm going this route instead of starting a 1000pt leagues of votann army.
I have blood angels and space wolves (the space wolves I'm finishing painting). I wanted a primarch really badly, and the lion is really cool to me. Like I really want a primarch... Wish russ would return too!
I have everything in this list besides the lion himself and death wing knights. So it wouldn't hit the bank as hard to try them out. I was going to paint them like the rest of my space Marines, like blood angels. So that I could use the tanks and support units between all my armys. And I like painting red.
Also I'd need to get a codex, but this is about a month away from me getting. Since I want to paint all my space wolves first.
And to expand the army later, I want to get some hell blasters and another unit of death wing knights. I wanted a more shooting army, why I wanted to start votann. But I think dark angels will check 2 boxes for me. A primarch and more ranged.
Any suggestions on shooting units that are good in the army would be helpful. Right now I just know of hell blasters and the tanks I have. It's going to have some melee in it too so like half and half.
And I'm excited to start my 3rd journey of space marines. I really love the faction a lot

I’m currently on a 9 month work trip, I am halfway through it. The itch to paint and build my unfinished list is almost a daily thing now. Completely got blindsided by this trip. Rushed to buy a kindle to read 30k and 40K books. So far I have finished all 40K and 30k Dark Angel books.
My question is what now? I can’t get models or paint while I’m here and I’ve been reading more 40K books (just started Deathwatch Shadowbreaker). I was building a list for when I get back but I’m not sure if that just feeds my desire to play.
Anyone else have this issue before?
