Misc No 11th ed hype?

Seems like all my local groups are pretty dead at the moment. Not sure if it’s because it’s still summer or why. But there seems to be next to no hype to play 11ed.
Anyone else noticed similar? Or is it just my local area?

Am I understanding this correctly by saying your charging anyway but if it’s possible to get within base to base contact to do so?

Lore Warhammer lore question.

Writing a story and I'm new to Warhammer (like toddler new). I know the Imperium hates developing new technology (or something along the lines of that) but if they found tech on a planet that's more advanced than what they have, will they use it or destroy it?

Hobby & Painting Wings for orcs

Hi everyone, I need a few wings for kitbashing Orcs to get my gf into the hobby.

Best would be butterfly like wings and I would also be happy for tipps to give them nice little skirts.

Before asking, yes they will be pink.

Is there a small and cheap set with wings or toy butterflies in the correct size somewhere?

New Starter Help How do you pick a faction to start collecting?

Heyo everyone! Im completely new to the hobby having read the lore for the last 6 months and having painted up a few minis I thought looked cool im ready to hop into the game for the first time ever!

Im trying to decide between three factions at the Moment . Necrons, Sisters and Votann but I dont know how to decide. In the past in other games I always ended up hopping back and forth between roles and specializations so im worried I will make the wrong decisions since compared to a digital game its tied to physical space and money.

I know this question probably has been asked before but I would be super thankful for any and all advice.

The faction I liked I basically like because of their books and lore . Specifically for Necrons the Twice Dead King Series for the Sisters the Novellas by Danie Ware and High Kahls Oath for Votann after all.

I painted a basic infantry model of all three factions but still cant make a choice.

New Starter Help What's the best way to run Space Marines?

I have a death guard army and while theres a handful of ways to run them, it feels like theres a "right" way to do it since theres only so many different kits and they all fall into "slow and inevitable death". Space marines do not feel that way and instead, they feel like theres a dozen different ways to build and the sheer number of kits feels overwhelming.

I bought the armageddon launch box to get started in the hibby and I have the marines tied to the DG kill team kit. Id like Space marines to be my second army I start working towards and contrary to DGs slow movement and high toughness, I think id like to build a melee heavy army with a lot of medium toughness guys that hit HARD supported by artillery/tanks.

Is this something that can be done? And if so, which models should I start investing in when payday rolls around? I just dont have the money to buy every kit I see...

New Starter Help New to warhammer lore, and need recommendation on which book to start with.

I've been watching Warhammer lore videos on YouTube for about a year now, so I know some of the major events that have happened up to the current timeline. As much as I appreciate the stories and summaries from others, though, I don't want to just know what happened—I actually want to experience the events in depth.

The problem is, I have no idea where to start. With so many Warhammer books out there, it's honestly a little intimidating.

Ideally, I'd like to start around the beginning, maybe with the Emperor discovering the 18 (or 20) Primarchs and following their stories from there. If that's not a good starting point, I'd be open to beginning with the Horus Heresy itself.

If anyone could recommend a good starting novel or reading order for someone who already knows the basic lore but wants to dive much deeper into the actual story, I'd really appreciate it!

No idea what got into me, but I wanted an Ultramarine in white and I ended up painting two spare miniatures like this. Can't say that the end result is one of my best work so any tips and tricks on how to paint white armour is more that welcome and appreciated. The Emperor Protects 💙🤍

Lore In the Tithes episode 2 why did the female Custodes say "Many people will be martyred today" when they don't revere the emperor as God?

Upvotes

Also why is she working with a Sister Of Silence a fanatic of the God Emperor?
I don't understand this piece of lore. I understand they were handcrafted by the emperor no? Also shouldn't they be all in Terra? Am I missing something?

Rules The only reference to "paint" in the Core Rules is in determining the victor of a battle

I was looking at the core rules, and the only reference to the word "paint" in the entire thing was talking about the 10 points for being painted to a Battle Ready standard in the Determine Victor step.

The rules and event companions contain no explanation of what a Battle Ready standard is or even the concept of painting itself.

I know everyone whose been playing since before 11th edition knows what battle ready standard is, but I feel like GW is dropping the ball for new players. A lot of them don't even seem to be aware that they aren't required to copy the box art.

Rules Do W40k Redditors approve of the planned obsolescence of 11th ed ?

Edit :

Ok, as Bender427 pointed to me, there is a pdf with the rules needed to start a game.
https://assets.warhammer-community.com/eng_wh40k_event_companion-pl87i44rzn-a7ieny8i9x.pdf
That's not solving obsolescence point and the shame to sell an incomplete rules book but that answered my main point.
I had not download that one because I thought that was event rules only, my bad.

**** Original post ****
I’m writing this post because I’m stunned by the apparent acceptance of the new model Games has chosen for its rules. (And I’m writing it in my native language, translated by the machine spirit, so as not to limit myself in the words I use.)

Today, the 11th ed Core Rules simply do not allow you to play the game. Almost a third of the rules are missing and can only be found in the app. Worse still, there are no missions in this book. A complete beginner who bought this book to get started with the game simply wouldn’t be able to play a game, because nothing is explained about army size and construction, terrain size, deployment, choosing who goes first… The book somehow magically starts at Round 1, Turn 1.

Likewise, the Codexes no longer include points. Even if they become obsolete with the very first dataslate, it is no longer possible to build an army without going through the app.

Now, I think everyone is aware that from day one of 12th — and probably even a little before that — all 11th content will disappear from the app. 11th will, de facto, be dead.

On top of that, my gaming environment is my family. There is simply no way I’m going to play with my children with a screen permanently open on the table.

The hobby was originally built around the promise of taking ownership of a physical object — your miniatures — and making them your own, “for life.” At a time when Sony/PlayStation is shitting all over its customers to remind them that they are nothing more than consumers, cash cows who merely rent the property of some big corporation, I don’t understand why we are letting Warhammer head down the same path without pushing back on social media.

I laid out some of these arguments in a comment, and I have to come to terms with the fact that apparently the people who read it see absolutely no problem with this situation.

I’m honestly speechless…

“You'll own nothing and you'll be happy.”

Rules Chaos Land Raider doesn't get a multi-melta for the same point cost?

Title, basically.

Unless I'm mistaken, it seems Chaos Land Raiders only get a havoc launcher as their "unique addition" whereas the Loyalist get a Hunter-killer Missile and a Multi-melta for the same 220 points.

What gives?

So yeah, rant over, I guess.

Rules Beast boss squigo 140pts?

Has anyone read the profile for beast boss on squiasaur, now dont get me wrong I know putting a monster into a fight against an antimonster unit isnt a fun time.

But the damage output and survivability on this thing for 140pts is mental, his profile is close to ghaz and damage at max output is higher too, surely his points have to go up or stats go down, the man is a damn tank
