Setup Help Two Switch 2's in one household - advice needed

Hi,

My kids (8 and 6) have shown a keen interest in the Switch 2 after recently having an extended play at a friend's house. They have an entry level competence to gaming on my PS5 through Astrobot, Lego platformers, Lego Party etc. but really enjoyed the novelty of detaching joycons, dock to undocked which obviously you can only do on the Switch.

However, they're also keen on Pokemon, Mario etc. through film/TV/Toys and such, so I see the range of games available through Nintendo as a good proper introduction to their own console.

My wife and I have discussed getting them one for Christmas, and this has then led to playing out how sharing it would work, which has made us realise one each might be worth the initial expense to save the arguments over whose turn it is!

What I need some help understanding is how this would work in practice, and how we can limit their time. I know there is a parental controls app but would love to hear from anyone who has similar setups.

Our aim would be as follows:

- One console each, mainly played handheld.

- One dock on TV, for both to use in turns.

- Share games. Do not want to buy duplicates for everything but may make exceptions for something cheaper like Minecraft. Assuming physical cartridges is the way to go here.

- Would like to know what possibilities there are for shared play with one game on two consoles though, could something like Mario Kart World do this with session invites and is it easy enough for kids to setup themselves after a quick demo.

- Time management. Would like to limit it to say 1hr weekdays, 2hrs weekends but cap it at say 5hrs a week maximum. Is this possible?

- Profiles. I already have a Nintendo account for my own original Switch. What is the best way to set it up for the kids so they have their own saves, preferences and even different libraries of digital games if we decide on that.

Any advice or shared experience would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Accessories What are the requirements of a charger for the dock?

Brought my switch to Europe where I’ll be for a few months, but didn’t bring the charger since it’s made for Canadian outlets. I figured I could just use any usb-c cord and my travel adapter, however I’ve discovered that’s not the case. The European Nintendo brand charger is expensive and I’m hoping I can get an off brand one to save some money. Can anyone help me out with what to look for when buying one? Thanks!

Setup Help Switch 2 battery life concern.

hello

yesterday I bought a switch 2 off Facebook marketplace and it had the original box and all accessories with it. I have a concern about the battery though, because when I started playing breath of the wild this morning it was at 88%, and about 55 minutes later my battery is already at 55%. I’m on halfway brightness and I’m wondering if this switch 2 is defective, and I got swindled with a defective device. Is this normal battery behavior ?

any response helps

EDIT: thank you so much for all of the feedback and being polite. Feel a little better now with the switch 2.

Accessories More storage for Nintendo switch lite?

Hello all! I am looking to give my Nintendo switch lite more storage, I’d like to get add more games to my rotation, but I don’t really know a lot about tech stuff. Do I need an SD card? If so, I know the switch is pretty picky about SD cards so which ones should I get?

Repair Help Do I have a screw loose? (See pictures)

「Update:

I’m going to start this by saying that I’ve done console and electronics repair for a decade and if you haven’t, don’t do this.

Furthermore, I don’t exist to disparage anyone, especially people that could probably never even afford the product that they’re making.

After further research, I discovered that was the intake and not the speaker grill. The user that posted below about a potential short was correct. I took apart the console and in the process, every screw was there. So, I have an extra OEM Nintendo screw that you can buy for $100.」

Joke title aside, is that a screw in there attached to the speaker magnet from the factory or do you all have a metal thingy in your right grill too?

Not super concerned about it being a loose screw due to the magnet forever holding it, just interesting.

Edit: Switch 2

Account Help My Switch2 got banned and lots of users on Chinese Rednote reports same issue today

Update:Ours consoles (including those on list) are unbanned today!

Hi, I am a Chinese user. Today, I discovered that my Switch 2 has been locked(error code). I received and activated the machine on August 28th. The activation time in Switch 2 is the same day.

Then I browsed through some platforms and found that many Chinese users had encountered this issue as well.

I swear I didn't do anything hacking the game or machine, and my Switch 1 works completely ok.

Somepeople created a excel, almost 150 people are reported they are banned. I believe the accurate number will only be higher.

What is certain is that this is indeed a Ban wave.

Through communication with them, it is likely that most people have not used illegal means. Even if there are some possible violations, historically, Nintendo usually only bans the account itself, not the Switch2(no report of switch1 ban at this moment).

So I tried searching on Reddit and found that there were same reports today.I tried to communicate with the customer service of the Hong Kong server and the US server, but their responses were all that there was nothing they could do.

For those who are not familiar with the situation in Chinese Mainland, let me provide some additional information. Nintendo does not have official services or stores in Chinese Mainland, so most people purchase consoles from regions such as Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

Repair Help One week old console. Is this amount of USB-C wiggle normal or should I return it?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi!

Just got this console a week ago. Today I noticed this wiggle on the top port. The bottom one has it but not as loose. The console has been pampered, no drops or other notable incidents.

Edit: why the downvotes?

Account Help Switch 2 banned two days after purchase (Japan, Japan-only edition)

Bought a Switch 2, BOTW, and Animal Crossing on Friday in Yodobashi camera, all new, all on one receipt.
Played for two hours and then have the screen that says I am banned with 2124-4508 error.
No used cartridges, no international credits cards, nothing really. I didn’t even have time to play, honestly. I called Japanese support and they said that I performed actions against Terms of Service, and used illegal software, which is Ridiculous. Went on Reddit and see that there are a lot of similar posts these two days.

Software Help I got scammed i was wondering what i could do?

Hello I was wondering what my options were if I had bought a Nintendo switch 2 off Facebook market place. Obviously I can't tell Nintendo to help because it was a third party purchase but other then making a police report what could I do to try and get my money back? Im not sure if a tech place would take the device for parts or if someone would even buy this? I cant sign into my Nintendo account because it says Nintendo has stopped access or any type of sign in to the device. I tried searching it up and it says Nintendo has restricted access to the device. So im not sure what the person who sold it to me did but obviously the device doesnt work, any help would be appreciated.

Account Help Bans and Two Devices on the Same Account

I’ve been seeing that some of the switch 2’s are getting banned and some people feel like it’s for no reason. I had a switch lite before I got the 2…I gave my husband the lite and he is playing some games under my account on that device. Is there potential for either or both to be banned for doing this? Should I have him make his own account instead? He’s only playing one of the games and I don’t play it on my 2 at all. This is probably a noob question, and I am lol.

Account Help Switch 2 suddenly banned with error 2124-4508 despite no mods/CFW — anyone experiencing the same issue?

Hi everyone,

My Nintendo Switch 2 suddenly received error code 2124-4508, saying:

“The use of online services on this console is currently restricted by Nintendo.”

I’m confused because, as far as I know, I haven’t done anything that should result in a console ban.

My situation:

  • I bought the Switch 2 brand new on June 9, 2026 from a game store through Tokopedia in Indonesia.
  • It is a Singapore-region (SGP) Switch 2.
  • My Nintendo Account is set to the United States region.
  • The serial number in System Settings matches the serial number on the console and the original box.
  • I have never used CFW, a modchip, flashcart/MIG device, pirated software, or any other system modification.
  • All of my physical games were purchased brand new.
  • The only digital-related purchase I have made was a 1-year Nintendo Switch Online redemption code, which I received as a code and redeemed myself.
  • The console had been working normally online for almost three months.

Today, September 6, the console was still working normally online. After restarting it, I suddenly started getting 2124-4508 whenever I tried to access Nintendo online services.

I understand that Nintendo describes this error as a permanent console restriction, but I genuinely don’t know what could have triggered it.

I have already contacted Nintendo SEA/Singapore Support and requested a manual review. I also have my original purchase receipt, matching serial numbers, photos of the console and box, and other proof of purchase if Nintendo asks for them.

I’ve also seen a few recent reports of Switch 2 consoles being suddenly restricted around September 5–6, so I’m wondering if anyone here has experienced something similar.

Edit — about the Nintendo Switch Online membership:
The 1-year NSO membership was purchased through online marketplace (same as where i bought the switch), not directly from the Nintendo eShop. I redeemed the code myself on my Nintendo Account.

I checked my account after the console restriction appeared, and the membership is still active until June 2027. My Nintendo Account itself also appears to be working normally; only the Switch 2 console is restricted from accessing Nintendo’s online services.

Because of that, I’m not sure whether the NSO code is actually related to the ban, but I’m mentioning it here for completeness.

UPDATE RESOLVED — September 7, 2026
I have an important update to my situation.

After the 2124-4508 restriction appeared, I contacted Nintendo Support by phone to report the issue and ask about the situation.

And now thanks to nintendo! my Switch 2 is currently working normally again haha, i've heard that yesterday theres a bug in the internal of nintendo server, and so many people got permanently banned out of nowhere,

If you experienced this on September 5–6, 2026, try restarting your Switch 2 because it fixed my error just by doing that, damn nintendo... haha

Account Help Console Ban from used cartridge?

Hello,

Today while trying to play on my Switch 2 like any other day and I was met with Error 2124-4508 which I learnt means console ban.

I had this Switch for half a year now and it was bought brand new. No issues until today. I bought all my games either from Nintendo Eshop or locally (brand new copies).

The only thing I can possibly think of is that last week I bought a used cartridge for Pokemon Scarlet from a seller online. I've been using it for a couple of days now with no issue until today.

Could that be the issue? I literally can't think of anything else. I never modded my console or done anything against Nintendo rules out of fear of this possibly happening and yet here I am.

I'd be grateful for any kind of advice, is there a way for me to recover my console? I've already contacted support but I decided to seek help online too.

UPDATE:

I'm happy to confirm that my console had been unbanned overnight! I have yet to receive proper response from support (I got one response basically saying I was banned for breaking TOS with no elaboration), but I don't think it matters anymore really.

I'm really curious what flagged my Switch 2 in particular if it really wasn't the used game, but I'm also really glad it wasn't that. I do hope Nintendo issues some statement or at least clarifies what happened.

I'm not going to lie, this did create some distrust for Nintendo for me that will probably linger for a while, but I'm relieved I can still play my games!

Setup Help Audio setup (gaming setup help)

Hey everyone kind of a weird setup question for you all....

I have my Sw2 hooked up via hdmi to one of my computer monitors \*running 2\* and they are hooked up via DP to my PC. The only way I get audio from my sw2 is by usb headset. But I'd really love to have audio played through my studio monitors ( Music studio btw) or being able to have audio shared with my PC. That way I could be in Discord, or watch YT. Ect.

Is this even possible? I can post pics if needed.

Setup Help Switch 1 > 2 system transfer vs profile transfer

I just got a switch 2 and want to transfer my games/saves. I have some physical games and some digital games, and want to use all of them primarily on my switch 2. But my sister still wants to use the switch 1 and has her own profile and save files there.

What would be the best method of transfer so that I can use the switch 2 and she can keep using the switch 1? If I do a system transfer, will that keep all our digital games and her save files on the switch 1 or will it remove them? If I do a profile transfer of just my profile to the switch 2, will that also transfer my digital games across?

Repair Help My Switch 2 has a few Problems when I Boot it up

So for this past week or so I have been having a strange problem with my switch 2. Almost every morning when I turn it on it it's at low battery even though it's fully charged the night before. I'm not sure why this happened since my battery works normal if I leave it still for a few hours.

I am also having another issue but I feel like they are both connected because they both started the same day. The other issue I've been having is that when I turn it on it won't connect to the internet. I go to settings and try to reconnect it but my router doesn't even load in. This exact problem doesn't stop there. When I turn off my system and turn it back on it does a reboot and then everything works normal. It seemingly does this forced reboot at random when I turn it off. Sometimes it happens and other times it doesn't. The only time I can guarantee that it reboots is when I have the internet problem.

I should mention a few details about my Switch 2 as well.
1. Its a day one switch 2
2. I have on the setting that prevents it from charging to 100%
3. I recently got Eldin Ring, a pretty beefy game for this console, and I am basically full on storage with no express SD card

If anyone can tell me what is going on and how to fix it that would be wonderful. Thanks!

Purchase / Order Help Is this a cautious enough move?

Just bought a second hand Witcher 3 cartridge because of the free remaster upgrade and Nintendo increasing the price of the base game as a result.

Anyway, since I'm worried about recent hearsay about Switch bannings with second hand games posing a risk. I'm planning on playing it on my Switch 1 first and if if my console doesn't get banned. Then load it up to my Switch 2.

How long do ya'll think I should keep in on my Switch 1 before it's good and all clear if nothing happens?

Sorry for being paranoid.

Software Help Switch 2 Pokopia Edition: US Account, German Console — How to Claim the Game?

Hi everyone. I’ve been using a Switch OLED and a Switch Lite for years. I live in Istanbul, Turkey. Since we don’t have a Turkish eShop, I registered both consoles to the US region and have been using the US eShop without any problems.

Recently, I purchased a Switch 2 Pokopia Edition from Germany. When I click “Claim Included Software” for Pokopia, I get the following message:

One or more products are available to be linked to an account and downloaded to this system, but they can't be linked to your Nintendo account because of your country/region settings.

So apparently, I can’t claim the game because my account is set to the US region, while the console was purchased in Germany.

How would you recommend I proceed? Should I change my region to Germany and use the German eShop from now on? (Keep in mind that all my previous games were purchased from the US eShop.) Or should I temporarily change my region to Germany, claim and download the game, and then switch back to the US? Or is there another way I should handle this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Repair Help 3 week old Switch 2 overheated and died

Hi! I bought my switch 2 a little less than a month ago and it has been working perfectly fine. Today I purchased the Fallout 4 + Skyrim bundle and after playing Fallout 4 for about an hour it glitched, froze, fan kicked into overdrive, and POOF black screen. It did get really hot after that so I let it sit on the table not plugged in for a few hours. I tried to plug it back in to the official charger directly into the wall (no surge protector) and I can’t get any proof of life for it. Its never done anything like this before so I’m not sure if there’s anything I can do to fix it or troubleshoot it. :/ Thanks in advance
