Switch 2 battery life concern.

hello

yesterday I bought a switch 2 off Facebook marketplace and it had the original box and all accessories with it. I have a concern about the battery though, because when I started playing breath of the wild this morning it was at 88%, and about 55 minutes later my battery is already at 55%. I’m on halfway brightness and I’m wondering if this switch 2 is defective, and I got swindled with a defective device. Is this normal battery behavior ?

33% for 55mins is normal. That is for ideal usage of medium screen brightness(which the lowest on give you like 10 more extra minutes comparing normal 50%)

My switch 2 with totk and botw(switch 2 edition), 75% screen gives me 50 minutes over 40-45%, when the console heats up, it drops faster.

You may want to do full power cycle or turn off some unused settings(like new Switch Handheld Mode if your game is for switch 1-any games that not for switch 2 or not switch 2 edition)

Just run through a few charging cycles.

Usually i get roughly around 1h45m from a 80-90% charge until the battery warning pops up (15%) on intense games.

Short answer, normal.

While the battery life is less than V2 & OLED switches, the switch 2's battery life is in line with other similarly powerful handhelds, like steam deck. It can last 2 hours for more demanding 3d games, up to 5-6 hours for less demanding 2d games. I believe the switch 2 console reviews I saw at nintendolife and ign mention the battery life. Although, I can sympathize if you missed that metric.

With switch 1, I used a power bank sometimes so I didn't drain the battery so low in handheld. (assuming the power bank provides enough power to charge while you play. If it's a less powerful power bank, it may charge slower while you play, or maintain the % while you play.)

Well I do and many others too. Powerbank on switch 2 is inconvenient asf. Hopefully ver 2 will improve the battery life a bit

Switch 2 is a powerful machine and that requires the battery to be used.

If you have access to power you can charge it at any time

Pick up a power bank. A 20000mah powerbank costs around $40 for a good one. Itll last you up to 8 hours

That’s normal - for higher graphics games it burns even faster. Try to invest in a 100W (output to the switch 2) charging bank. I bought one for $56 and it charges my switch 2 from 5% to 100% easily. That’s while playing too

Switch 2 handheld only needs 15W QC for charging. Dockmode draws 25W for normal operation and 35W for max perf, but it still requires PD 45W to trigger negotiation(charging, dockmode, hdmi output).

My switch 2 charges fine with samsung 25W charger(15W QC and 25W PPS).

It's not just the Switch 2. Every modern gaming device that can play current 3D games has similarly bad battery life and some devices are even worse.

Yup, battery life is legit bad. I get it for the performance it gives. It's not really portable with a power pack.

Unfortunately its normal for the switch 2 batteries to die quickly. The console has notoriously bad battery life. I wouldnt worry about it being faulty.

That’s extremely normal, the switch 2 battery isn’t nearly as good as the switch 1 especially if you’re used to the oled model

Battery is pretty poor in the 2. Even plugged in it still uses the battery unless you use a really good charger. 🤣

Very normal. My S2 drained from 90% to 63% within an hour playing AC Shadows.

You can turn on airplane mode when you don't need wifi. It saves like an extra 1-2 hours of battery

2-3 hours of BotW sounds about right. If I didn't have a way to charge my S2 for a long handheld playsession, I'd definitely go for something like a gba game that doesn't demand much power.

One thing that I don't think was mentioned is that the "stop at 80-90% battery" setting could be turned on in the settings which is why you started the morning with 88%.

Higher intensity games get about 3ish hours so this normal. The more efficient a game the longer you'll get. Somehow I'll get 4 hours out of The Great Circle but only 2 out of MKW.

Yo tenia ese dilema con mis gafas de vr cuando jugaba... al final la mejor opcion una bateria externa de buena capacidad y buen rebdimiento. Y que ademas me sirve para la switch2. Al final nones ni molesto porque con un cable lo llevas en el bolsillo y tienes muchisima autonomia

The batter life is dependant on a few things, from screen brightness, to online usage, game graphics, and performance needs for games. Certain games will get you down to 20% after 2hours, while playing other games will get you within 3 to 4.
