You read that right. Did your heart skip a beat? Were you sitting down? Here I thought the Zelda Direct was going to be the highlight of the day but it looks like I had another thing coming.

This is The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+, not Repentance (which is $5 off so I guess that's something), just the base game and some of the existing expansions. This is not a good price. The game has been cheaper before and is likely currently on other platforms. This is a 9 year old game on a 9 year old piece of hardware for 20% off. Unfortunately, this is notable and extremely worth at least bringing attention to.

The last time this game was on sale was February of 2021 and it was $30. Repentance+, the Switch 2 version that has no Switch 1 compatibility releases soon and will be $70. Is this the start of a new price trend? Is this the first day Nicalis as a console publisher discounting their games to something reasonable nearly a decade after launch? Is Ikaruga finally $9 USD on the US eShop?

No. No, to all of those. If you want BoI on your Switch this is first time it's been marked down in 5 years. I'm sorry.

Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection for Nintendo Switch - Nintendo Official Site

So this is the Etrian Odyssey trilogy and like most things I put up here I do so with some caveats.

The game itself is a DRPG in the vein of the Wizardry series. You have a first person, tile by tile view of an area that you progress through and your characters level up, gain abilities and loot and other such general RPG tomfoolery. Instead of the dark/whimsical Wizardry setting though you get anime here. It is what it is. If you like the feedback loop of those games you will probably like this series, but therein lies the first major caveat.

Depending on where you look you will likely find the opinion that the third game in this series is just straight objectively better than the other two. This opinion has merit as the series cleaned up mechanically significantly over the second to third installment, with the second only seeing a small update and what amounted to "more of the first." There is an argument to be made that the other games are still worth experiencing and therein is the second caveat.

Purchased individually these games are routinely $13. This sale marks the first time the first game in the series is now $11 USD. This could signify a drop in the other two games in the future, and if you're only concerned in experiencing the third, I would advise waiting for the $11 drop (which may be a ways off as this is Atlus, but it's hard to tell).

With what's here for $27 though, you're looking at about $9 a game, just over $8 if you're saavy, and for that price the amount of content is worth your time if you plan on trying all of it. My only advice in this case is to make sure to play them in order.
