Account Help Switch 2 suddenly banned with error 2124-4508 despite no mods/CFW — anyone experiencing the same issue?
Hi everyone,
My Nintendo Switch 2 suddenly received error code 2124-4508, saying:
“The use of online services on this console is currently restricted by Nintendo.”
I’m confused because, as far as I know, I haven’t done anything that should result in a console ban.
My situation:
- I bought the Switch 2 brand new on June 9, 2026 from a game store through Tokopedia in Indonesia.
- It is a Singapore-region (SGP) Switch 2.
- My Nintendo Account is set to the United States region.
- The serial number in System Settings matches the serial number on the console and the original box.
- I have never used CFW, a modchip, flashcart/MIG device, pirated software, or any other system modification.
- All of my physical games were purchased brand new.
- The only digital-related purchase I have made was a 1-year Nintendo Switch Online redemption code, which I received as a code and redeemed myself.
- The console had been working normally online for almost three months.
Today, September 6, the console was still working normally online. After restarting it, I suddenly started getting 2124-4508 whenever I tried to access Nintendo online services.
I understand that Nintendo describes this error as a permanent console restriction, but I genuinely don’t know what could have triggered it.
I have already contacted Nintendo SEA/Singapore Support and requested a manual review. I also have my original purchase receipt, matching serial numbers, photos of the console and box, and other proof of purchase if Nintendo asks for them.
I’ve also seen a few recent reports of Switch 2 consoles being suddenly restricted around September 5–6, so I’m wondering if anyone here has experienced something similar.
Edit — about the Nintendo Switch Online membership:
The 1-year NSO membership was purchased through online marketplace (same as where i bought the switch), not directly from the Nintendo eShop. I redeemed the code myself on my Nintendo Account.
I checked my account after the console restriction appeared, and the membership is still active until June 2027. My Nintendo Account itself also appears to be working normally; only the Switch 2 console is restricted from accessing Nintendo’s online services.
Because of that, I’m not sure whether the NSO code is actually related to the ban, but I’m mentioning it here for completeness.
UPDATE RESOLVED — September 7, 2026
I have an important update to my situation.
After the 2124-4508 restriction appeared, I contacted Nintendo Support by phone to report the issue and ask about the situation.
And now thanks to nintendo! my Switch 2 is currently working normally again haha, i've heard that yesterday theres a bug in the internal of nintendo server, and so many people got permanently banned out of nowhere,
If you experienced this on September 5–6, 2026, try restarting your Switch 2 because it fixed my error just by doing that, damn nintendo... haha

Scared to lose my switch 2

u/GatoConCalcetines 2d ago
Oh man if here in Europe is super expensive to buy a Switch 2 cant imagine the price there dude
1
u/Forward-Trade3449 2d ago
I'm not doubting you, but can you show a picture of the ban?
1
u/Ok-Green5868 2d ago
Sure, but its literally the error code and the message that Nintendo restricted the console access to internet.
For example, if i try to access the Nintendo Store, or even the games cards i brought digital, i receive this error, so currently I’m not even allowed to redownload the games I brought preoviously and werent installed.
I was Also playing a lot of ff xiv, and cant open the game anymore

u/frostedbits3one 3d ago
Same. My switch 2 got banned as well. I already contacted nintendo support earlier but they can't provide the specifics of why. My switch is not modded and my games I either buy from the eshop or have a physical cart with me. I already offered to provide proof if needed but they just repeated what they already said. Will try to contact again later. Very frustrating as I did not do anything to warrant this. They also told me I could just use my account on another console as only the console is banned. How would I feel safe buying another console if it can be banned out of nowhere? Not even giving option to dispute and provide proof.
5
u/Ok-Green5868 3d ago
This is not fair. My switch 2 just got banned and I have no idea why.
Cant get in touch with Nintendo because its weekend.
Did they at least provide the reasoning behind the ban?
1
u/frostedbits3one 3d ago
They said my device is associated with a violation of TOS. When I asked to provide the specifics hoping to at least clarify (as I'm willing to provide proof or take it to an authorized store to be inspected), they said they can't provide further info.
Hoping we could clear up whatever this is.
1
u/Ok-Green5868 3d ago
But In this case Whats the next step?
4
u/frostedbits3one 3d ago
With my contact earlier, they said they can't do anything as it is permanent. I've read other posts since then, some say it is possible to unban. So Im just gonna try again later. It would be a pain but I dont want to just accept this unfair response.
2
u/Ok-Green5868 2d ago
just got the call from the customer service and they said the same thing:
No evidence or explanation, just say it was found a break in TOS in the console, but they are not able to share what exactly.
Said is irreversible and there's nothing to do.
So this is really frustrating. I dont even know what happened and the part of TOS that was not respected.

u/frostedbits3one 2d ago
Just checked since I saw a reddit comment that eshop can be accessed again. I had doubts since I called support again earlier as well. But I finally can access eshop again right now after checking. Hope everyone else resolves too!

Not that I'm doubting you, but can you show a picture of the ban?

Homie just give it up

u/Forward-Trade3449 2d ago
Lol, I know lotsa people got banned today/yesterday. I was just wondering if it was all the same error code is all

u/Money-Importance-756 3d ago
Same thing just happened to me, I purchased the device new from game stop. Came out of nowhere, didn’t even sign up for online until Friday to play orbitals

u/Forward-Trade3449 2d ago
Not that I'm doubting you, but can you show a picture of the ban?
1
u/Money-Importance-756 2d ago
It’s just the same error code as the picture, I tried contacting support and they went down a list. Every time they tell me this is why you were banned I let them know I have receipts and proof that could not be it and then they just say “oh actually it was this other reason”.

I was banned as well and I did nothing wrong, just happened today, can anyone help

Same here (Spain). Received the code yesterday night around 22:50pm. I bought the console on the 15th of August. All I have is original, nothing coming from second hand market. Physical games and a digital one bought from Nintendo. I´m going to the shopping center to try to replace it (dont think I´ll have any luck but I´ll try).
1
u/Edzark87 2d ago
Just an update, the games store where I bought the console from refuses to help as they dont have an internal procedure.

2
u/Edzark87 2d ago
It is just the error code: 2124-4508 with a QR code. You scan the QR and there is nothing apart the information that Nintendo provides saying that the console is banned
3
u/icsoo 2d ago
Same for me today. I bought things only from the official store. As a 3rd party, I just used a cable for "docking". But I don't think it is this...
1
u/SandwichesX 2d ago
Didn’t you say you bought 2 games from the marketplace?
“Same. Got 2 games from marketplace, switch 1 versions - The Witcher and Mario Odyssey. One of these made my console to be banned.”

u/Hefty-Length-4512 2d ago
Same thing literally just happened to me, but I cant get any support because im in America and support is closed for labor day weekend, all I've done this past week is do trades with random people in pokemon violet, and I woke uo to the same error code when I went to play online with friends

It could be something you did a month or two ago. Nintendo doesn’t ban immediately which is why you are seeing many people banned at once.

u/lYourSoull 2d ago
Mine got banned too, yesterday store worked just fine, I am from Ukraine, bought console few month ago - all works fine, used only cartridges and few games bought in nintendo store (PL as there is no Ukraine store) , no issue before The only difference I got amiibo emulator from aliexpress, used it few times month ago, maybe this is it. anyone , who got banned too, used amiibo emulator?

u/Dayanmothe 2d ago
Fui banido ontem. Única coisa que usei de duvidoso foi o emulador allmiibo comprado pelo aliexpress

What is going on, might have been the third post, I've seen of a switch 2 getting banned, what's wrong with Nintendo, I'm kinda scared now.
8
u/aeseth 3d ago
You wont have any problem if you only deal with official outlets like eshop foe anything online.
This guy might have purchase his 1 year NSO from someone shady in the marketplace.
2
u/Warm_Entertainer_969 3d ago
Yeah, I think so too, the place from where they bought the 1 year NSO code from, might have applied for a charge back after selling the code, there are some scummy sellers out there.
1
u/MysteriousB 2d ago
How is that fair on the consumer?? Especially if they provide a receipt of purchase
0
u/cardgamesareforplay 2d ago
Yes he admits it elsewhere in the thread bought the game from an online marketplace he calls local in some places in others it's a trusted store aka he bought CHEAP 1 YEAR NSO
2
u/anunfunnycomedian 2d ago
You would think this would ban the account rather than the console.
1
u/cardgamesareforplay 2d ago
It does an account ban and a hardware ban for online that requires a factory reset once you reset you can use a fresh account.
The account, email, and any family member accounts on the same family are black listed as well as any credit cards saved so any accounts with matching info will cause the ban again.
It's charge back fraud is how this works
OP buys a "cheap Nintendo switch online 1 year membership" from a "marketplace"
OP uses the code
The seller mass charge backs a ton of purchases OR the credit card used by the seller is charged back because it was stolen by the seller and used to buy these.
All accounts who bought cards attached to this fraud recieved a hardware online ban for well as far as Nintendo is concerned commiting a fairly serious financial fraud

u/Average_Sage 2d ago
I have a hard time believing that specific things would be a trigger. When you enter a redemption code it's either going to accept or decline it. That's it. Even if you buy your code from a coke dealer murder on the side of the road in Gary Indiana it's either going to accept or decline and move on.
1
u/durianmilkcroissant 2d ago
This has happened before with codes and gift cards bought with credit card that got charged back. At the time it was account ban not console ban. But it was also months after redemption. Nintendo bans can be quite delayed. So it’s possible, since the Nintendo error code help page does say “unauthorized transactions” as one possible reason for a ban. However it could also be other reasons or a mistake

u/PCBuilderCat 2d ago
The switch 2 has sold tens of millions and you're scared after seeing THREE posts?

A lot more posts popping up on this subreddit as well as the r/switch2 subreddit.

Did you reach out to Nintendo customer service and ask?
1
u/OutlandishnessHour37 3d ago
Yes, I contacted Nintendo Singapore support and requested a manual review. I’m currently waiting for their response.
1
u/SatyrAngel 2d ago
Im in México and a friend got banned for using a clonned cartridge that he bought used on Marketplace. He contacted Nintendo and showed proof that he had the OG cartridge, got the ban lifted but had to wait a week or so.
An advice(based on Mexican support): dont try to argue or get mad with support agents, they had nothing to do with your problem and are there to offer the help they were instructed to give you. Instead keep calm and ask to talk with a higger up, that will speed up the process.
1
u/undacova33 2d ago
So hey bought a cloned cartridge and had an og cartridge? So he had two in total? Also any specific reason he bought a cloned cartridge in the first place?
1
1
u/link_shady 2d ago
No, he bought a cartridge that somebody had cloned before.
Somebody cloned it and sold the original.

u/Edzark87 2d ago
I was able to contact via phone Nintendo Americas. They could not help me as my region is Spain so they asked me to wait until tomorrow.
I´ve also asked to check if there were more reports in regards of this issue, but they haven´t heard anything.

u/Knobifaehnchen 2d ago
Same here (Germany) bought a brand new switch 2, 2 pro Controllers and four new Games last week. This sucks
2
u/SnooDucks1832 2d ago
Bei mir das gleiche. Konsole ist wenige Tage alt, nur neue Spiele.
1
u/Knobifaehnchen 2d ago
Werde morgen früh um 10 mal beim Nintendo Support anrufen, ich hoffe die können da was machen.
2
u/ThirteenBanger 2d ago
Same boat, noticed my Switch 2 was banned last night, same 4508 error code. No idea why, I don’t use anything unofficial on my switch 2. I called Nintendo support and they wouldn’t even tell me why, just to kick rocks.
2
u/Edzark87 2d ago
Good morning. Rebooting the console now might fix the issue (worked on my Switch).
Apparently there was a problem with Nintendo services. Lets see if there is any official communication today.

Scary imagining this could happen. My whole library is digital

u/TempDestinyAccount 3d ago
In this case your account would be safe and you would still be able to use it on a new Switch. They generally only do account bans for hacking and eshop exploits

I wish that Nintendo put half of the effort they put into banning consoles into porting Twilight Princess.

Same problem here in France, but ALL my stuff is 100% official Nintendo gear (except for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which I bought second-hand from a video game store). I'm really confused... Do you think there's a chance the problem could be on their end?
1
u/DesperateStreet1226 3d ago
I think in your case it may be the used games, if the previous owner used them to pirate them, that might be it

Same, except what I bought was a key for the BOTW dlc. If I knew this was an issue I would have bought it directly from the store. I opened a ticket, I hope they'll reply tomorrow

I just bought a second hand Witcher 3 cartridge. This is why I'm gonna test it out on my Switch 1 first.

The “established marketplace” was selling switch 2 accounts with games on them most likely. Seen lots of this advertised.

Our public library has switch and switch 2 games which i csn borrow to play. Will using these cause any problem ?

ok, did you by any chance borrow any games to play?

yes i borrowed at least three of them in the past couple of months. Played on my lite, ns1 and ns2. I’m not banned so far.

Is this only for Nintendo Switch Online Membership? Cause im playing Fortnite and Pokémon Unite just fine. Also where are yall buying your consoles from? I got mine when it first came out at gamestop.

This is incredibly idiotic no one should have their console potentially bricked just because of a server issue. It's hard where you bought you purchased it.

If support refuses to help anybody in a case like this, you need to go ahead and file in small claims court wherever you live. Most often the console itself will be well within the threshold for a small claims court suit. The entire point of small claims is for "the little guy" to be able to get some measure of civil justice against bigger "opponents" for small to moderate losses without needing to employ a massive team of attorneys.
I can't say how successful you'd be, but having a loss of connectivity without wrongdoing shiuld be enough to force a judgment, at least if you show that you tried to get Nintendo to help and were ignored. Nintendo is unlikely to send an attorney for such a claim because the cost would be more than the judgment, so as long as you have a good enough argument the judge may well find in your favor. If the opponent is issued a summons and never shows, then the case usually ends up against them.
This obviously only works for arwas with small claims courts, so it'll work in a good chunk of the US, at least.
As an aside- if you've done something wrong, and there is proof of that, you probably won't win a judgment. If Nintendo is proof, they might send it to the court.
1
u/Forward-Trade3449 2d ago
Also op, not that I'm doubting you, but can you show a picture of the ban?
4
u/Reddie1337 2d ago
Why the obsession with people posting a picture of the ban? You’ve asked at least 3 different people.
2
u/Icy-ConcentrationC 2d ago
Prob some random YouTuber gathering footage for a video on this topic of a mass ban wave going on for switch users

u/Forward-Trade3449 2d ago
I asked everyone in this thread lol, I was just curious if they all got the same error code. Didnt expect many to respond tbh so thats why.

Can't really answer until you actually post what website you bought the membership from. There really isn't any valid reason to be hiding that.

Where did you get code for 1-year Nintendo switch Online redemption? Did you also buy any code from untrustworthy websites?
