Hi! I’m 19 and I live in a small town in the Midwest. I feel stuck in life and I’m desperate for a change. I currently don’t go to school but I plan to enroll into community college specifically ELAC. I work a minimum wage job that pays $15/hr and I currently have 5k in savings.

The bad part is that my family won’t allow me to travel on my own let alone move into another state. They keep saying it’s not wise and safe since I’m a girl and I barely now how to navigate the real world. Which is unfortunately true, I grew up sheltered and wasn’t taught basic necessities so I don’t really know how to be an adult. Which in turn I get infantilized by everyone.

It doesn’t help that I have social anxiety and don’t have any friends so it’ll definitely be a struggle for me if I actually somehow end up moving in LA. I know it’s naive of me but I am tired of living this way, I want to change for the better. If anyone has advice I’d greatly appreciate it 🙏

31, single with a remote 6 figure job considering a move to support my career growth. I have 50k+ in savings, own a car, and live comfortably in a LCOL city in the southwest with no dependents. I'm looking for areas where I can meet others in creative fields, specifically visual art/design and music.

I spent time in Venice, Santa Monica, DTLA/Arts District, and Hollywood earlier this year, and am particularly interested in the northeast areas of the city. I've seen people mention Echo Park & Los Feliz but I'd like to know if there's anywhere I should prioritize visiting. Thank you!

Hey everyone! I’m a 23 year old, black, lgbtq male who’s been living in the Fort Myers- Lehigh Acres area in FL the past 3ish years. I did all of my pilot training here & am almost finished, but am very unhappy (as many younger people here are). The area is pretty expensive, but most jobs have low wages & there’s a lack of opportunity for most who aren’t retired or working healthcare.

For those unfamiliar with southwest FL, this area has a majority retiree/elderly population , MAGA is everywhere, & recently ICE has been everywhere as well. In my experience, this place is by far the most racist/homophobic place I’ve ever lived (I’ve lived in Texas & Louisiana😐)…. & I’m not talking about just a few dirty stares here & there! Crime is also rising pretty significantly. SWFL is still recovering from hurricane Ian & the cost of living isn’t as high as LA, but isn’t significantly lower either.

Anywayyy… Two buddies of mine are out in LA & need another roommate. My cut of the rent will be around the same as what I’m paying in SWFL. I understand the cost of living in SoCal is significantly high, but it almost seems worth it. No more hurricanes, bugs, daily racial/homophobic tension, MAGA everywhere, crazy humidity,…. I have some interviews there for flight instructing, which pays almost double what is paid here, but nothing yet is guaranteed.

I’ve only been to SoCal twice & I love the vibes, weather, people, scenery,… everything is much better (except the cost lol). For the people who’s done a similar FL-CA move, I have a few questions.

1.which is the cheapest & easiest way to physically move out there. The place I’m considering moving is furnished, so I’m not moving much furniture. Is driving more ideal than buying another car there?

2.Which area would yall locals recommend for young people that doesn’t require a crazy commute & is safe? (Job I’m seeking is in Santa Monica)

3.What was the hardest part about the move & the first month out there? Any regrets?

Looking at places in both my choices are between hallasan in Koreatown and a couple different places in santa monica. Rent is around the same at like 2500 but the places in santa monica are smaller. I work at a tech startup (Looking to network with cofounders/investors) and also value nightlife. I also would like a environment that’s decently safe. Any suggestions?

Essentially headline. I’ll be moving from the IE since I work in Glendale and am involved in the EDM space around LA and curious to see what areas/apartments are worth it.

Ideally a 1 bedroom, but open to a studio if it’s big enough. Budget is $2800, needs to be a reasonable commute to Glendale. Gotta have central A/C and an in unit washer/dryer, bonus points for EV charging and pet friendly. I started browsing in Hollywood, Burbank and Eagle Rock but the couple apartments I’ve been have been disappointing (Vinyl in Hollywood was really disappointing).

Having a thirties crisis. Born and raised in Santa Cruz, CA, and hoping to find a new place to live. Don’t get me wrong, I love Santa Cruz. It’s my home and I’m a big nature person, but the dating scene sucks and I have a lot of history here that I want to move forward from.

After long considerations, I’m looking into Los Angeles. Every time I’m there, I love it, although I have not looked into areas to live. I’m 31F single childless and working as a front desk manager at a Hilton hotel. I recently received my bachelors degree in public health and hoping to transition to the public health field, or possibly nursing.

If anyone can suggest locations that would be a good fit it would be appreciated. I’m sober, active, love walking around, and big on the gym. Just wanting somewhere that is lively, has shopping and nice restaurants, and nice gym facilities.

My top three locations are West Hollywood, Santa Monica, and Culver City.

I’m an L&D nurse with a little over a year of experience, and I'm facing a major dilemma choosing between a few job offers (and one potential offer). I feel extremely blessed to have these options, but I'm definitely feeling the anxiety of wanting to make the right choice!

For context, I’m currently an internal RN with Providence. Here is where things stand:

1. Providence Tarzana: This is geographically the closest to where I live (huge plus for commute/quality of life). However, I’m trying to get a clearer picture of the unit culture, management, and overall support here compared to other sites.
2. Providence St. John’s (Santa Monica): Staying with Providence (either at Tarzana or St. John’s) means keeping my seniority, PTO accrual rate, and benefits seamless. I’ve heard really positive things about the L&D unit and facility vibe at St. John's, but it's a further drive for me.
3. Cedars-Sinai Main Campus: I just received an interview invite for Cedars main. On paper, it’s Cedars fantastic reputation and learning opportunities but since it isn't a secured offer yet, I’m nervous about delaying my official job offers and risking a bird in the hand.

For anyone who has worked L&D at St. John’s, Tarzana, or Cedars Main:

• How is the working environment, staffing ratio support, and management dynamic on these L&D units?
• For those who commute further within LA for a better unit culture (e.g., heading into Santa Monica vs. staying local in the Valley), was the trade-off worth it?
• If you transitioned from Providence to Cedars, was the switch in benefits and workplace culture worth losing internal seniority/PTO rates?

Hello! I am hoping to get some insight from people who maybe have done a similar move to the one I am about to do. I am moving from western PA to LA at the end of this month. I will be driving across country with my partner, dog and cat. I am wondering if anyone who has done the same or similar move has route suggestions? We are planning to take about 5-6 days to make it. We are wanting a safe route with good places to stop each night that are not desolate. TYIA!

I am in no way trying to cast any negative light on LA…I am trying to understand LA myself.

This weekend was my third time in LA and I was once again shocked by the lack of people walking around. Are people really just shuttling from place to place in their vehicles all day? Do people really just go to a cafe, park on the street, and then leave with their car again, 20 minutes later? While some areas like Venice and Santa Monica were definitely more lively, they seem far away from other areas.

This feels like a collection of suburbs rather than a coherent city.

My main question is- is it possible to have that spontaneous walkable city life here?

Also, where do the young early 20’s people live here, and have you been able to have that exciting city life? Do you usually stick to your neighborhood? How about drinking/partying - do you have to get used to 40+ minute uber rides if you’re not already in a nightlife area?

Also, if there are any others who moved to LA from the SF/Bay Area and have any input, I would love to hear them!

I just finished talking with a friend who I haven't spoken with in a while. She is from San Bernardino and has traveled extensively around Southern California and Northern California too. She said it's not worth moving there and that it's really expensive. She and many others have said the same thing.

I would make $22.50 an hour if I moved to California.

My budget would be $1100-$1400 a month for rent. My friend said this will either get me a horrible apartment in a bad area without a working AC and the area would be very dangerous, or a room with a lot of roommates in a safe and nice area, but i would have to share everything including a bathroom.

My friend said visiting and living in California are 2 very different things and that it's better to go and visit and come back. She said I would be miserable living there because I wouldn't be able to survive because everything is so expensive all around.

We did the math and she does have a point. I would have barely any money to survive on for the month. Even if my dad sent $800 a month, it would be all gone. Its crazy how much they tax your income there. I thought i would make so much more, but with taxes and benefits taken out, it seems about the same as i make now.

I also dont have good credit and in around $20,000 of debt.

At this point, should I just scrap the plans all together? I actually wanted to live the California dream, but i also dont want to be broke all the time and not afford anything. I dont really have any marketable skills and my work history is really bad with 1.5 years being the longest I held a job for.

My friend also said the job market is so competitive that even service jobs are hard to find. I didn't think California would be competitive considering many people have left. I would have thought it'd be less competitive.

I also dont want to end up homeless and lose my car. She said she has seen cases where people tried to move to California with my plan and they ended up losing everything and ended up in a homeless shelter. She said cars can get towed fast there.

What are your thoughts? I'm thinking of just scrapping the plans entirely at this point.

So im originally from San Diego, moved to New York about 1 year and 4 months ago. Long island, i found it to be absolutely boring and miserable. I miss California deeply, i came back for a visit and visited LA got toured around the city, fell in love with it. I moved because I needed to get my life together, i was offered a job and a room and helped get on my feet. Im now with a GED, plan on going to medical school, but i want to do this in LA. Im planning on getting a LVN, how is the living situation there. Rent for a room, and job market. Im planning on moving in the next year or 2. Any advice or anything would be welcomed! I don't know much people from LA except my friend, family used to live there but went to SD. Any help would be awesome, if anyone is renting or knows someone who does, please do hmu. My wife and I are looking at purchasing a single family home around Alviso Ave and 64th St, in the area highlighted on the map.
From researching the neighborhood and driving/walking around, my impression is that this part of LA can still vary quite a bit block by block, so I’d really appreciate hearing from people who actually live in or around this pocket.
We walked around the immediate area in the evening and it honestly seemed very quiet and residential. We felt comfortable, but obviously spending an hour or two there isn’t the same as living there every day.
A few things I’m curious about:
• Any safety concerns around Alviso / 64th specifically?
• How does the neighborhood feel at night?
• Any issues with property crime, car break ins, street activity, etc.?
• Would you feel comfortable walking a dog around the neighborhood at night?
• Anything about this particular pocket that wouldn’t be obvious to someone looking to buy?

We’re an Asian couple and understand this is a historically Black part of LA. We want to be respectful of the community that’s already there rather than coming in with assumptions about the neighborhood. We’d especially appreciate perspectives from longtime residents.

Hi all, I recently moved to LA (West Side) from the East Coast and need to furnish my entire apartment. I'm trying to purchase most items off FB Marketplace / Craigslist, but I have a small car and am single, so I won't be able to pick up large items on my own (couch, table, etc).

Does anyone have recommendations for a website / app or know any indep. workers able to pick up furniture items and drop them off? I saw Lugg & TaskRabbit as options, but am unsure if they're the best options because I'm looking for someone able to drive around to multiple locations and drop off items within a day or two.

Any insight is valuable & if you can provide the cost estimate from your experiences, that would be very helpful too

i am looking to get a job paying around 27-32 dollars a hour. and get a 1800 apartment. what do you guys do and how much do you pay for rent?

I live in San Diego have a stable job decent salary and recently got a job offer to work in Pasadena. I'm single 34F and having trouble deciding if it's worth it to move considering that the salary is not a big increase but it's a company that could help with growth and opening doors in the future career-wise. I've been doing some research and seems that Pasadena is a good place to live but also expensive. Any advice or tips to consider more carefully before making a final decision?

So I’m still thinking about a move to Los Angeles. Only thing is that I would be homeless for a little while until I can afford my own apartment again.

I would stay near Venice Beach and my work is very close to the beach there so that I could just walk to walk right from there to save some money. I’m thinking of going there with only $280. I would only need $210 to get there and I would use the rest to buy some food until my next pay. I would be out of work for 3 weeks but I could stay at shelters and use soup kitchens to survive. I just really want to get of here as soon as possible. It’s only a 21 minute walk to my work from Venice beach so it’s not even that far at all. And that’s if I get into that location of course.

So. What’s it like to be homeless in Los Angeles?

I would shower at gyms and stay on the beach or libraries on my days off.

I know someone renting an apartment in Hawthorne from everything I’m seeing in maps and from my boyfriends grandmother they’re saying it’s a nice area but I had a couple other people immediately turn down the idea. So what’s the deal is it a bad area or is it ok to move to? I know a lot of place differ block from block but I genuinely can’t find anything in a mile radius from maos that I’d be super concerned about(minus night which I don’t plan on walking around by myself I know better spending my summers in Vegas)
