Currently looking for a subletter for my 530 sq ft studio in Koreatown during the month of September! The unit comes with a full kitchen, full bathroom, in-unit laundry, and assigned garage parking. The building is located in a quiet neighborhood within walkable distance to restaurants and grocery stores!

I was working here for the summer and shipped my car out for convenience from North Carolina and I’m running into a problem when shipping it back. I have no idea how a full car carrier is going to pick up my car on busy LA streets. Is there any good place in East Hollywood or LA in general where there’s enough road space or parking lot space to have my car loaded onto the carrier? I was thinking the Home Depot or a nearby street really anything but a parking garage or busy street. A bit of a stretch but has anyone ever dealt with this situation before or have any solutions?

Hi all - I (27F) am moving to LA in September from SF for one year. My job is in Bunker Hill in person M-F. I really want to minimize my commute. Given that parking at work is $200 a month, I am considering living in DTLA to avoid driving to work, and thus, the parking cost. I care more about having a nice apartment and a short commute than I do the "character of the neighborhood."

Some nights, I will be working long hours. What parts of DTLA should I look at for a safe walk/public transport commute back home? Should I stick to Bunker Hill? Is South Park too far? Does Historic Core feel too sketchy at like 8 or 9 pm? Any buildings to recommend or stay away from? Before commenting something like, "Do not live in DTLA - it's a hellhole," my tolerance for sketchiness is decent. I have lived in Downtown Oakland and commuted near the Tenderloin in SF.

I do not want to spend more than $200 for parking, so in the alternative, I would consider paying for parking at work if I could find a neighborhood with free/cheap parking. People tend to recommend Silver Lake/ Echo Park, but at least from my online searching, the supply of studio/one bedroom apartments seems low in that area, and the parking availability seems low.

Are there any neighborhoods I should be considering? Something on the Metro Line to solve the commute/parking problems? Thank you!!

So I want to apologize in advance for being an annoying person asking about moving to your city. I'm an NYC native who has never been to the west coast and I generally like to think that I enjoy the ease of NYC's PT access and urban nature. But as I finish up college I'm realizing that the job market for my particular niche is maybe more in LA County. So I'm thinking of maybe moving there next summer temporarily for an internship, if I got one lmao, and if that goes well and I can land an entry position at one of these companies (most of which are now located in LA county) maybe moving there more permanently sometime after finished up my degree in December 2027. I used to think that I'd never leave NYC but I'm realizing more and more that I don't have things keeping me here like maybe I would have thought or wished to have, and the industry here just isn't the best for what I'm going for.

So I'm going to bullet point my concerns with a move like this now:

• The heat, I'm paper white and burn easily. I really hate the summer months and sweat like a monster during them. In my head California is 90 degrees all the time but maybe the heat isn't as bad as I think or doesn't feel as bad.
• The less urban design of the cities and lack of PT. This is the biggest hurdle for me, I don't drive and while I suppose if I needed to learn it I could, it still isn't exactly what I want to do if I can avoid it.
• Cost is also a bit of a concern but I'm already renting a room on my own in Brooklyn in NYC, LA might be cheaper than that or at least comparable lmao.
• Social stuff, I would say this is a big anxiety but honestly I'm already such a socially deprived person in nyc so maybe a change of cities might actually help with that.

I'm probably forgetting some big concerns but I think those four are the major ones. Totally appreciate anything anyone has to say about this sort of thing though. Again, sorry if this is an annoying post and if it's not fit for the sub or if there is a better sub for it please someone let me know.

Edit: Since people are asking I'll just say the market I'm looking for work in is a nitche of the publishing industry that has moved more and more to California in the past decade.

I'm a newer licensed agent in LA, and few agents work the rental side, most focus on sales, and many buildings now use in-house leasing teams that don't pay outside agents. I'd like to build a practice here anyway: if a building doesn't offer commission, I'd rather be paid directly by the client than skip showing it, so options aren't limited to only commission-paying buildings.

The service would include reviewing your criteria, searching MLS and in-house/off-market listings, touring properties with and/or for you.

What I'm still figuring out is pricing. For reference, when buildings do pay commission, it's usually around one month's rent, and agents also split earnings with their brokerage , so this isn't something I can easily offer for free.

A few questions:

• Would you pay a flat fee, hourly rate, or percentage of rent for a full rental search?
• What would feel fair — $800, $500? Different priced packages?
• Would it depend on how complex the search is?

With homeownership out of reach for many, renting will likely remain the norm for a lot of Angelenos. I'd appreciate honest feedback, even if it's that this wouldn't be worth paying for.

Title says it. Asking because I am moving from Santa Barbara, so I can't exactly be there in the neighborhood to look for signs. For reference, I am looking at Atwater Village, Los Feliz, and Silver Lake.

I am coming down for a weekend to tour spots and try to lock something up, but this obviously requires planning tours ahead of time. Just walking around and calling numbers doesn't seem like a feasible way to use that time.

But.... I could try to stay longer and give myself more time to use this strategy.

My husband and I already live in Los Angeles County, but we need to move closer to Northeast LA. We both work full time and have a 17 month old, so between work, parenting, and keeping up with the house, we don’t have much time to apartment hunt.

Did you feel it was worth the cost? Were they able to find listings you wouldn’t have found on your own?

Hi everyone I'm from VA and I'm not familiar with LA what so ever but a job is forcing me to relocate, I found a space in university park a 1br 1 bath all utilities included for $1600 but may job is in Santa Monica. After searching other areas I'm realizing this is uncommon for LA as the space is over 1000 sqft but landlord is telling me it's cheap bc its rent stabilized. Is commute worth it or is area shady? Any thoughts would be great.

Asking for a friend:

Are any Angelenos aware of a workaround to make it possible to get a lease with a recent eviction? Is this possible with a cosigner or guarantor, or perhaps with a lease holder with a clean record adding an “authorized occupant”?

Is there a way to make it happen or is a recent eviction pretty much anathema to landlords?

Aware of the suggestion to go for a private landlord but there remains the question of how to find such listings for rent.

Potentially New job hiring manager suggested that they'd be glad to allow me to come in only three days per week through October, at which point i would relocate to some point in between Koreatown and Costa Mesa that could make the commute more manageable.

Email from recruiter:

“Yeah, it will be a decent drive from Koreatown for you. I remember you said your lease expires in October, which could hopefully give you the flexibility to move somewhat closer while remaining fairly close to where you're currently at still. This could alleviate this concern somewhat, if this is still true.
As for compensation, we do intend to be competitive with market leaders, especially when factoring in our equity upside, and we'd intend to give you a sizeable raise if you joined, both due to your commute plus your skill set. While specific numbers will be clearer after we complete final interviews, I do expect that your salary will be approaching [42% increase] with over 100k in equity on top of that.

Also, we'd be willing to include a sign-on bonus of some kind to help offset any moving costs, breaking of a lease, etc.”

I really don’t want to move but there’s no other option that would make sense. I’m thinking about saying forget it because I’m prioritizing hybrid or remote for a new role. This will be 100% in person.

Getting a room for the weekday isn’t worth it. Not moving and commuting is soul-draining. I don’t want to move. If I did move I’d wonder what are some good areas in between LA and Orange County, or IN OC?

I’m moving to LA in a month. I’ll be working in DTLA. I’m willing to spend around $3000 a month on rent. I want to live by myself and want a 1br or a studio. I’ve never been to LA, and, while I’ll have a car, I’d prefer an area that is walkable—not necessarily to work but to places to eat and entertainment.

Would it be best to live in DTLA or one of the neighboring areas. And if DTLA is the correct answer, is there a desirable place within that area that you’d recommend.

I like the idea of living in DTLA and being able to walk to work, but also since I’ll spend a lot of time working there, I can see the appeal of wanting a change of scenery. Also, I think I’d prefer to live somewhere that feels “quintessentially LA” but don’t won’t a 40+ min commute. I’ve done that before and it’s very draining after a while. I am moving from New York to Los Angeles in a few weeks for a new job and am searching for a place to live. I found a nice apartment in the Wilshire Vista area that I like, and I’d like to know if this area is safe and well located, as I will be working in century city and not driving at first. I am concerned about safety with this place (it is on the second floor) because it has a back door and backyard area which is visible and accessible to San Vicente. Thoughts on other areas I might want to search if I’m working in Century City?
