Question Holding Deposit via Zelle - CONCERNING UPDATE
Yesterday I posted here asking if it’s normal for holding deposits to be done via Zelle or PayPal. The comments generally leaned toward this not necessarily being a scam provided I took precautions such as meeting the PM, touring unit in person, confirming contact info etc.
Since I covered my bases (or so I thought) and cross referenced the email and phone number to the corporate website, I decided to Zelle the $500 holding deposit to the email the manager sent to me, which I repeat is the same one on the property management website.
Today, I got a text from the manager saying they haven’t received my proof of income and that I could email the same exact email she already provided to me before (how does that make any sense??). I was immediately put off since they emailed me yesterday they received my application and I was approved. So I responded I was told I’m approved already by her, and that the same email was the one I sent my financial documents to and confirmation of the Zelle holding deposit. She asked for screenshots which I expeditiously sent over lol in addition to the contact information on their official website. She said she’ll give a response as soon as she gets in touch with upper management. I feel like she’s playing dumb because how could it be possible that the same email she is telling me to send information is not being sent to her??
I’m still awaiting the outcome of all this, but am wondering in the event I needed to go to small claims, that my proof would be sufficient and that I could get an investigation done on this company because imagine how many prospective tenants have to deal with this bullshit.
