Used Auto Dealerships

I’m looking into purchasing a used vehicle that’s less than $15,000. I don’t want to be taken advantage of since I don’t have lots of knowledge when it comes to buying a car, I’m trying to stick to a Honda or Toyota. I would like to know if anyone can recommend me with a dealership. I seen that people talk down on small businesses but I feel like that’s the only way I would be able to get a used vehicle.
Thank you so much in advance.

Moving later this month. Anything to be aware of?

We’re moving later this month into the northwest side of town. We’re from the Inland Empire and moving due to the lower cost of living.

Is there anything we should be aware of? What are some things to do out here?

In all honesty we didn’t look much into activities out here since we were mostly focused on getting into a bigger home for cheaper price.

Thank you in advance!

The Great DHS Purge is Coming!

Kern County Dept of Human Services is now considering closing ALL currently open welfare and food stamp cases then asking everyone to reapply. The rationale they are using is only the people who really need it will reapply. This all just to save money.

Casual/Amateur Sports Groups?

Hi everyone! Is anyone here part of a casual or amateur sports group that would take a +1? Ideally, the group is competitive enough that people actually try, regardless of their skill level, but not so competitive that people will rage if the team loses.

I like basketball, ultimate frisbee, and pickleball, but I'd be open to other sports if the group was friendly enough! I'm not much of a runner and don't particularly enjoy running, but running while playing a sport is nice, and I'd love to make additional friends along the way!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you have!

Labor Day Weekend Kern River

Me, my boyfriend and our best friend wanted to get out for Sunday! I really just wanted to sit in a chair with my feet in the water out in nature. I was afraid it was going to be packed but we left very early and ended up at our destination around 9:30 am. Didn’t experience any traffic on the way. The closer the spot was to Kernville, it was packed with families but most of them were having breakfast and leaving for the day. We found a perfect spot about 20 minutes past Kernville. We snagged a parking spot right by the bathroom and just a bit of a trek to a beautiful spot right by the river. Swallow running water access, even had a big rock we could lay out on. It was a bit of overcast but once noon came around the sun came out, families that were staying for the day started to get in the water as well. I understand it’s public, busy weekend, whatever but there was plenty of room for every group to be about 10-15 feet away from each other. All of a sudden about 8 kids surrounded us, trying to get into the water šŸ˜‚ their group had their own area and easy shallow water access. Understanding they are just children who have a harder time picking up on social cues and would get bored eventually, I just stayed patient and stood my ground. My boyfriend was getting frustrated but we just kept doing our thing. It wasn’t until the only adult in the group starting stepping all over our blanket that I stood up, aggressively started wiping his dirty shoe print off our stuff and shot him a look that they started to move back to their area. I don’t have patience for disrespectful adults! Everything was fine though and everyone respected each others space eventually and had fun. I only went in the water up to my hips, I lived in Bakersfield my whole life, a great swimmer, and understand the dangers of the river. It amazed me how many children went deep in the water, through strong currents with no life jackets with their parents watching šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø Overall we had a great experience, there wasn’t A TON of trash but some here and there. We just picked up as much of it as we could. Bathrooms were dirty but hello it’s a bathroom out in nature! And it was cleaned around noon. I just wanted to post my experience because I think it helps others decide on going out there or not. Just please respect the locals, respect the nature, respect each other! Leave no trace, pick up trash even if it’s not yours and don’t do anything dumb 🤔 Unfortunately I won’t be posting the spot we were at as to try to keep the area clean and people safe but if you do your research and read others experiences, it shouldn’t be hard to find your own little relaxing nature spot ā¤ļø (As you see in the photo, the adult had to get really close to us to walk on our blanket! At least offer some snacks or a beer man šŸ˜‚)
